The Swapped Master's Bride And Her Bad Luck System.-Chapter 88: Happy.
If she was forced to attend another social event with her husband, Liwu was certain that she would shoot someone, or herself. This particular occasion was the engagement of the daughter of one of the city master’s biggest donors. She was marrying into a family of similar social standing.
Liwu had been to many such events growing up and she always stayed in the shadows were nobody noticed her. But here, she was in the spotlight because everyone wanted to ask her about the foiled bombing plot at the Chamber of Commerce dinner two weeks ago.
"Why is the Bureau being so hush-hush about this?" The father of the bride pressed her.
Liwu shrugged. "I am just a low level detective, how would I know what my higher ups are thinking?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"But your mother is the president of the Bureau." The mother of the bride said, doubt in her voice. "We are friends with Shen Weijun, we can be trusted."
Liwu looked at the tipsy bride who was making an idiot of herself on the polished marble dance floor of the hall of a grand hotel. She wondered how the couple that could not keep their daughter out of the champagne could be trusted with secrets about the city’s security!
They needed to keep their priorities straight instead of questioning her.
Luckily, her husband came to her rescue before she could arrest the pair. "I have to steal my wife for a dance," he said, extending his hand to Liwu with a grin.
Liwu latched on to his hand, forgetting how much she despised dancing. They moved onto the dance floor, blending into the swirls of gowns and tuxedos. Around them, city officials, celebrities and other guests of good social standing, along with friends of the bride and groom twirled in polite rhythm.
She walked into his arms and felt his arm slide around her waist, bringing her close against his chest. His left fingers intertwined with hers.
"Aren’t you worried that I will step on your toes?" She asked him.
He laughed. "My toes will have to be sacrificed to save the Guo’s. You looked like you were just about ready to handcuff or shoot them."
"And their friends." Liwu hissed.
Weijun twirled her around gently, smiling softly. "Yes, their friends too. I am sure you want to arrest half of the people in this room."
The bride-to-be, laughed--too loudly. Liwu could not help turning to look at the young woman. She was dancing with the groom-to-be but her steps were unsteady. The guests seemed comfortable ignoring it, pretending not to see her stumble through the waltz.
"Someone should send her to a room to sleep before she does something stupid," She whispered to Weijun.
He winced. She had just stepped on his toes.
"Sorry," she murmured and counted silently: One...two...three..."I count six celebrities here that have been to a police station or Bureau precinct in this month alone for the crimes of smuggling, driving under the influence, fraud, sexual misconduct..."
"Dear." Weijun pulled her to his chest, "You need to relax. Socializing tonight and justice tomorrow." He winced. Once again, his toes found themselves on the bad side of her stilettos."
She pulled her hand from his and stepped back. "Okay, enough socializing, let’s go home. You can stay on if you want but I am leaving in ten minutes. So, say goodbye and meet me in the car or find a new waltz partner." She concluded and walked off as smoothly as she could, trying to hide the limp from the pain of standing in uncomfortable shoes for so long.
Six minutes later, Weijun met her in the car and Mo Xia started the car. Through the ride, Liwu kept her eyes closed, relaxing her mind. It was a Saturday, she planned to sleep until 9 a.m in the morning. For breakfast, she would have something that would make doctor’s weep on behalf of her arteries.
The thought made her smile.
She did not notice that her husband was on a video call, but instead of talking, he was using sign language. Whatever he was saying, he did not want her hearing. The conversation ended only after they reached the villa.
Liwu was so glad to be home that she forgot the stilettos in the car and walked into the house with her bare feet. She hummed the melody that had been playing as they waltzed. He joy was so complete that she raised her arms and twirled into the foyer, before coming to a dead stop.
She had not been expecting guests. Her mother was standing in the living room, and three people were sitting in the sofas. One of the three was sister Bai and the other two were from the Bureau.
"Mom!" she exclaimed, lowered her hands and cleared her throat. "We were not expecting guests at this hour. What alis going on?"
Weijun stopped behind Liwu, his face took on the same stunned appearance.
"You two have to give the bureau regular updates on the state of your marriage." Alix reminded them. "It has been a month since you married and evaluation time has come. Think of it like a tax audit. Just sit down and relax."
Liwu did not feel relaxed at all.
Weijun nudged her from behind, pushing her into the living room. "This cannot be avoided," he whispered. "The sooner we answer their questions, the sooner they will be out of here."
Liwu sighed. She tensed up even more as Weijun helped her down and sat down beside her. He put an arm around her waist and smiled. "Where do we begin?"
Sister Bai leaned forward. "I like how direct you are. Let’s start with conflict, seeing as to how conflicts directly led to this marriage union. Have you two been fighting, arguing, sulking, giving each other the cold shoulder or doing things that make each other uncomfortable?"
"No.." Weijun replied quickly. "We are happy."
"So happy." Liwu said stiffly.
"Super happy." Weijun added.
"Happier than we have ever been in our lives." Liwu gave a thumbs up!
Alix scoffed. They were so happy that they could not even smile! Moreover, no happy person needed to keep repeating it to others so many times. Who were trying to convince?
They were just making poor old sister Bai frustrated with their lies which were obvious.
And there was no way Liwu was happy with the four social events she had been made to attend as Weijun’s date. Liwu hated parties, all parties.
But marriage was mysterious to all outsiders so maybe they had some cause to be as happy as they were claiming. But, when her daughter found out that her husband was the city master and these few social events were just an appetizer, she would arrest him for fraud!
"Super duper happy." Majesty chipped in with a purr.
