The Swapped Master's Bride And Her Bad Luck System.-Chapter 44: An arrest to look forward to.
There was a knock on the window and Linlin pushed a button. An officer, disguised a delivery man handed over a box of pizza and left.
Liwu opened the box, licking her lips. "Mmm, finally..." her mouth stopped moving. It was not pizza, just pictures of some of the people the target had met with.
The target was the janitor that had escaped from the hotel. By following him, it was their hope that he would lead them to another Snake head smuggling den.
"Fruit it! its not pizza, more pictures." She hissed unhappily. Tapping her ear, she said loudly, "What will it take for someone to deliver food to us?"
More beeping came from the dashboard and Liwu flicked her eyes to the biometric display embedded in the rear view mirror. Another target had been registered, a known criminal in the SOB database.
His information was filled out, along with the words ’most wanted’ boldly displayed over his face.
"Bu Chengxiao is here." Linlin said loudly. The information was delivered through the transparent ear piece in her ear to another operation van much larger than the vehicle they were sitting in.
Suddenly, everyone that was working on the operation came alive. Bu Chengxiao was a system host with a hidden storage system, one of the few in the world. He could smuggle all kinds of contraband past checkpoints since ordinary scanners could not detect items stored outside reality.
It was only after the SOB rolled out new devices at airports and other crossing areas that he was discovered. Since then, he had been on the run, but active.
Twenty seconds later, SOB detectives, disguised as a drunk couple entered the bar. Less than ten seconds later, new footage from inside the bar was displayed on the dashboard. The target was meeting up with Bu Chengxiao.
They watched as a group of three men and two women sat at a corner booth and started plotting. Meanwhile, detectives logged faces, names, coded phrases, shipments that would start coming in disguised as sea food crates as soon as fishing activities resumed in One city.
Liwu shook her head. "The chief is going to roll around in honey and dance naked when he sees this. We have everything. All we have to do is sit back and follow them and we can take down the whole ring."
Chuckling came from the end of the ear piece.
Linlin winced. "I don’t want to imagine the chief naked or rolling around in honey."
Suddenly, a taxi stopped next to their car and both women froze.
A woman stepped out of it and crossed the street. She paused just outside the bar to fluff her hair that caught the neon glow.
"Is that who I think it is?" Linlin asked loudly.
Liwu nodded. "My husband’s rumored sweetheart. Yes, it is."
The air in the car thickened. Liwu grabbed a camera and started snapping pictures the old way. Surveillance suddenly felt personal.
"What the hell is she doing in a place like this?" Linlin asked.
Liwu snapped another picture. "Shady bar, shady woman. She must be here for a reason. Maybe she is connected to the Snake head gang."
Manman’s face appeared on the dashboard along with her information. No criminal record, with the exception of a few fights on the sets of a few movies. However, she was considered to be a spokesperson for IH during the system wars. So, she had multiple associations with people of interest to the bureau. People that were considered criminals and some were known smugglers!
Manman walked into the bar and headed straight to the table with the smugglers.
"I am going to need special handcuffs." Liwu giggled. "Oh, I am going to enjoy arresting her." She touched her waist and brought up her handcuffs. They made a slight jingle, like they were anticipating this as well.
Linlin caught Liwu’s arm. "We are here to observe not arrest."
As if to support Linlin’s word’s Alix’s voice flooded the ears of every officer in the area, including Liwu. "Nobody should make any arrests tonight. If anyone flaunts my orders, they will be on traffic duty for the next five years. Do I make myself clear?"
A round of ’yes ma’am,’ went around. Those who could not respond verbally nodded.
Manman’s information was removed from the system which was compiling information on the operation. Those who were most familiar with the way the Bureau operated knew what would happen next. Manman would be used to catch other high value targets, willingly or unwillingly.
Liwu pursed her lips. For some reason, she had already pictured the look of outrage on her husband’s face when she told him she had arrested his lover.
She sighed. It would happen soon enough anyway, she just needed to be a little patient.
"It has got to be killing you right now." Linlin turned to Liwu and laughed. "I know how much you love to collar a suspect. And this one has been served to you on a silver platter." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Liwu huffed and sunk into the chair. It was killing her, indeed but her mother was the big boss. When the big boss stepped in, the minions were not allowed to jump out of line. When it came to work, her mother did not play games.
Moments later, Manman and the rest of the criminals went their separate ways and Liwu got to go home. It was a little past three o’clock when she walked into the house, creeping slowly so as not to wake up those who were already sleeping.
Just as she took the first step on the stairs, a shadow appeared close to her and someone cleared their throat. Liwu turned around, one fist clenched in case she needed to throw a punch. When she saw her husband’s face, for one second, she considered throwing the punch anyway.
Weijun was holding a cup of tea, steam was rising slowly and disappearing in the air. Some seemed to go up his nostrils. The most bizarre thing however was a long chain around his neck that trailed to the floor! Liwu had no idea what to make of it.
He cleared his throat again.
She could see him struggling with something to say and she had a feeling that whatever it was, she would not like it. "Spit it out."
Weijun cleared his throat again. "It’s about Manman, her mother is sick."
"I am too tired to be interested in whatever this is." She muttered. Liwu turned and walked up the stairs without saying anything else to him.
