Chapter 13: Try not to die on the wedding night.

Liwu looked around the room, wondering if her imagination was playing games. Or she had wished so hard that her mind was broken. But the humming in the back of her mind as the system made itself comfortable said otherwise.

"System." she whispered. "By tactical, do you mean my bad luck is a weapon?"

[Correct. You can trigger misfortune events at will and turn your bad luck into good luck. You can even transfer it to another person. Warning: collateral damage is highly probable.]

Liwu groaned. "Collateral damage. You mean, the misfortune I trigger will cause the suffering of others. Innocent passerby’s."

[Indeed, but not to a life-threatening degree. Only the targets will suffer the most. The Misfortunes you trigger can be minor or major; it depends on how many points you have.]

"How do I earn these points?" She asked eagerly. A chance to turn misfortune into fortune! She was grabbing on to it with all her might.

[Your daily blunders can be turned into missions, earning you points.

If you survive or solve a chaotic situation, you earn points.

The worse your natural luck or the bigger the chaos, the bigger the reward or points earned. Points can be used to boost your skills, related to your job or acquire useful gadgets used in your job.]

"Alright, system, show me what you can do. Initiate a minor misfortune."

[Initiating minor misfortune.]

A moment later, one of the scented candles in the room which had been lit to create a romantic ambiance for the newlyweds spluttered and exploded. Wax sailed across the room, landing on Liwu’s gown.

She coughed, waving the smoke away. "That was not harmless at all." A drop of hot wax had landed on her hand. She was a victim.

But deep down, she felt a huge thrill. For years, her bad luck had been a curse. But now, it was hers.... hers to control. Her life, from now on, was hers to control.

Meanwhile in the private parking area of the hotel, inside a van, Shen Weijun was facing six of his men.

Zhao Lang, a man with a logistics system. He was lean and wore glasses which gave him a scholarly look. This was also because he always had a book or scroll in hand.

He was a strategist for the city and the system war on the side of IH.

The second was Mo Xia, the only woman in the six. She had an intelligence system which allowed her collect information and spy for the IH. She had a shadow network online and her system granted her access to different secret sites and communications of the Bureau.

She was slim, sharp-eyes and quiet. Always three steps ahead of most people.

The third was Lu Wei, a man with a unique system which only five people in the world had. A morale system. His role was to boost the morale of allies in battle and residents of One city. He was very health conscious, hence the athletic build. He was very fierce, which was how he earned the position of commander of One city and Weijun’s personal bodyguard.

In the mix was three others, men from overseas.

The fourth was Jude Hale, a man with a defense system. He was American and his motives for moving to One city were only known to Weijun. But his contributions to the city were undeniable. With his system, they had strengtheners walls, gates, and defensive structures.

He was broad-shouldered and scarred with three claw marks on his right cheek. They came from a fight with a host that had a wolf system.

What everyone knew him best for was his loyalty. It was to Weijun and only Weijun. Not even Weifeng could command him.

The fifth was Santino Reed, who had a war strategy system. He was a tall Spaniard with a heart for romance, or so he told everyone that cared to hear. He was famous with the ladies, especially those who liked men with sharp blue eyes and financially generous. He loved the thrill of outsmarting opponents.

The six was Cross Ho, the man with a finance system. He had joined IH three years ago but climbed into Weijun’s small circle quickly. Since then, economic development of One city had become more rapid. He was a treasurer and economic advisor.

He was shrewd and ruthless when it came to money. He was always well groomed, dressed in the best tailored suits, with rings on his fingers and a calculating smile.

They were Weijun’s closest allies and soldiers in the war against the Bureau. Around the van, on different sides, were twenty vehicles all filled with Weijun’s private bodyguards.

More were holed up in the hotel and all the other places in the neighboring area. Trust was thin between the Bureau and IH. Weijun was not about to leave his safety in the hands of the Bureau.

"Where is he?" he barked. "He drugged me, dressed me like a groom and left me in the dressing room of the wedding hall. Where were all of you when this was happening?"

Cross Ho smiled, "You and your brother are practically twins. He can play you perfectly. None of us realized that something was wrong until we saw the video. A vacation does not sound like you."

"Especially not without me." Hale said with the usual grimace.

Lu Wei hesitated. "But, master, you are married now. Shouldn’t you.....celebrate?"

Weijun glared. "Celebrate? I left the room because her bad luck was about to kill me with a lantern. If I dare to sleep in that bed the bed sheets will probably choke me in my sleep."

Lucas punched the front seat. "They must have done this on purpose. They sent that cursed woman to kill you and then blame it on bad luck. Nobody will blame the Bureau for that."

Lu Wei rolled his eyes. "If that was the case, big guy, they would have had to know that Weifeng planned to escape and leave our master behind as the groom. If we didn’t know, how could the Bureau have known?"

"And how could they have passed on the chance to use this information to accuse IH of sabotaging the alliance?" Reed asked. "Let’s face it, the bride and groom were swapped due to misfortune. Our biggest goal should be to continue hiding the city master’s identity from Tai Liwu. If she discovers this, who knows what will happen?"

Lu Wei leaned forward. "Which is why the master should be up in the suite with his bride. We should not give them any more reasons to accuse us of betraying the alliance. Our existence depends on the trust and goodwill of the people. The people want peace. If we are accused of sabotaging the alliance, we will become the enemies of the people. So, master, go back and sleep with your bride."

Mo Xia opened the car door and three of them pushed out Weijun.

"We will continue searching for him. If we find out anything, we will let you know." Lu Wei said. "Good luck up there. Make us a little master and try not to die on your wedding night."

Weijun’s face darkened.

The car door was closed.
