Chapter 44: Flying Gate

(Alright, but before that, first gather at least fifteen Level 10 A-Class Monsters to guard it!) Leonardo replied.

He didn’t want to restrict Ellie. In fact, he preferred that she take the lead.

(Okay, Boss!) Ellie sounded immediately delighted.

At the same time, Leonardo suddenly noticed someone flying in the distance.

It was a man in his twenties.

A pair of transparent eagle wings stretched behind his back, allowing him to fly swiftly through the air.

Another person who could fly.

Leonardo hadn’t expected to see someone like this here, and the man was clearly heading straight toward him.

"You must be Leonardo Anderson," the man said after landing in front of him.

"Who are you?" Leonardo asked cautiously.

He could sense that this man was around Level 20, or at least something close to that.

"I’m William Peterson," he replied.

"I’d like to invite you to do something."

"Do something?" Leonardo frowned slightly. It was strange for someone he had never met to suddenly invite him like this.

"Have you ever heard of a Flying Gate?" the man asked.

Leonardo shook his head.

There were simply too many things in the Monster World. He only knew the common information or things he actually needed.

"A Flying Gate is something comparable to the ten main gates. The reward for conquering it is also on the same level. At the very least, there will be one S-Class Weapon and several other items of similar value," William explained with a smile.

"However, it requires people who can fly. Right now we already have three people, and we still need one more."

"I came here to invite you to join us."

"You don’t actually have to fight. You only need to help carry one person in the air. You don’t even have to do it yourself—your wolf can do it while you supervise or deal with unexpected situations."

"If the mission succeeds, we’ll definitely give you a reward worthy of your help. So, what do you think?"

"Are you interested?"

"What reward will you give me?" Leonardo asked.

He was quite interested, because he knew this wasn’t something he could handle alone.

He suspected the guardian of the Flying Gate might be Level 20 and S-Class.

"We’ll decide the exact reward after we see the results," William said.

"But it definitely won’t disappoint you."

"When will it happen?"

"We plan to do it this afternoon, so if you’re interested, you can come with me now."

Leonardo glanced at the dark mist released by Liam, thinking for a moment before finally nodding.

Rather than wandering around without direction, joining this team seemed like a better choice.

He also hoped to gain some levels by helping defeat the monster guarding the gate.

As long as his monsters participated in the fight, his contribution would be counted and he would receive EXP as well.

Clap! Clap!

Leonardo clapped his hands, signaling Liam to stop.

The black wolf immediately leaped out of the thick dark mist and landed beside him.

Liam looked slightly wary as he stared at William, while William observed him with clear interest.

"Very impressive," William said.

"In that case, follow me."

He spread his wings and flew into the sky again.

Leonardo didn’t bother flying himself. Instead, he climbed onto Liam’s back, following behind William.

They flew across the desert before gradually descending toward a village surrounded by small hills.

Beyond the village lay a vast sand valley covered by a massive sandstorm, blocking the view of anything beyond it. Fortunately, the sandstorm didn’t seem too violent and remained in place.

They landed in the village.

When Leonardo saw several people guarding the village, he quickly realized something.

This place also belonged to the Harvey Family.

Not far away stood three people—two men and one woman with short black hair who carried herself with quiet elegance despite her simple clothing. All three appeared to be in their twenties, just like William.

One of the men had an extremely obese body. His cheeks were so swollen that his eyes were almost buried beneath the fat.

This was clearly severe obesity, but fortunately he was an Awakener, so his body still functioned normally.

Leonardo silently hoped that he wasn’t the one who couldn’t fly, or the mission would become troublesome.

"Let me introduce them," William said.

"This is Lucy Scoot."

"And I’m Sergio Brown," the fat man said.

"And this is Ronald Jones. He’s the one who can’t fly among us, but he’s also the one we need the most. He’s an Archer whose arrows can pierce almost anything."

Fortunately, the one who couldn’t fly wasn’t the fat man.

It was the other one.

Ronald was rather thin, but his wrists looked unusually thick, with veins bulging across them.

"Hello Anderson," Lucy said with a small chuckle.

"I actually heard about you back when you were accused of stealing monster eggs from the Harvey Family. I didn’t expect you to be doing fine now—and even becoming famous. I thought you were already in prison."

Leonardo rolled his eyes.

"That was their scheme," he replied calmly. "And they paid a heavy price for it. I proved their accusation was false."

When he was arrested, the media reported it everywhere.

But when he won in court, there was no news coverage at all.

Only the students at his school knew the truth, and none of them dared to spread it.

The next time his name appeared in the news was when he was suspected of being the owner of the owl that had committed several murders in Z City.

"Well," Lucy said with a shrug, "to be honest, that part was easy to guess. But justice doesn’t belong to everyone."

"You’re impressive though," Ronald added. "Not many people could escape that situation."

"That’s right," Sergio said. "If it were me, I’d probably just accept my fate."

"Almost like that," Leonardo replied. "But I got a little lucky."

"Hahaha," William laughed. "If you weren’t lucky, we wouldn’t be able to ask for your help today. In the end, one of us has to carry Ronald during this mission, so that person won’t be able to help much in the fight."

"Alright, enough talking. Let’s move."

"For now, I’ll carry Ronald," Sergio said.

His massive body waddled toward Ronald.

Ronald’s face twitched.

"Come on, climb up..." Sergio said. He tried to pat his shoulder but couldn’t reach it, so he simply patted his head instead.

"Fatty," Ronald said while climbing onto his shoulders and wrapping his arms around his neck, "promise you won’t release gas from your butt."

"As a free passenger, you don’t get to make demands," Sergio replied.
