The Strongest Beast Tamer With the Strongest System-Chapter 40: Police
Leonardo knew Margaret had another scheme prepared.
Even though curiosity filled him, after thinking about it he decided not to go.
That way, whatever scheme she planned would produce no result at all.
Since he was no longer sleepy, Leonardo chose to take a warm shower.
Afterward, he went down to the mall that had just opened, headed to a café on the top floor, and relaxed on its balcony while having a light breakfast and drinking warm coffee.
It didn’t take long after he started drinking when Margaret called him.
But he didn’t answer.
He muted his phone and chose to open his laptop to play a game.
He planned to stay here until he chose his next reward.
Just when he thought he would have some peace, two police officers suddenly came to his table, one in his thirties and the other in his forties.
"Leonardo Anderson, we received a report that you have wings as a Beast Tamer, so you are suspected of being the owner of the owl that committed several murders in the city," said the forty-year-old officer.
Leonardo had already guessed this would happen. He stayed calm and replied, "I don’t have a bird. Well, I do, but it hasn’t been born yet. My wings come from my wolf."
His answer made both officers frown.
"What kind of wolf has wings?" said the younger officer.
"Do you think I’m lying?" Leonardo replied.
"Whether you’re lying or not, since many witnesses saw you, we have a warrant to arrest you. We hope you cooperate with the investigation," the older officer said.
When Leonardo heard the word warrant, he knew he couldn’t refuse.
He could only nod and stand up, storing his laptop.
"I don’t want to be handcuffed," he said after seeing the officers holding cuffs.
"Fine, but don’t resist."
"Don’t worry."
Leonardo then followed them.
Fortunately, it was still very early in the morning and the mall was quite empty.
Leonardo even wondered how they found him so quickly. Perhaps they had already been watching him since he left his apartment.
When they passed an open elevator, Leonardo saw Margaret, already wearing new clothes.
She seemed to have come down to look for him and was quite surprised to see him with two police officers.
"What’s going on?" she asked as she approached them.
At first the officers looked annoyed that someone was interfering with their duty, but when they saw Margaret, they immediately acted as if they were facing their superior.
"Miss Harvey!" they greeted politely.
"Miss, several people saw and reported that he has wings. We suspect he is the owner of the owl that killed several Awakener recently, so we are taking him to the police station for investigation," they explained.
Margaret, who believed that Leonardo was indeed the owner of the owl, was quite surprised again.
Ayumi had told her about this, that she had noticed Leonardo’s presence before the owl’s cry, so they had a clear conclusion.
She looked at him with furrowed brows, thinking about something.
"Is that true?" she asked, since Leonardo didn’t say anything to explain.
"Why ask? Do you want to defend me? Of course, I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to pay for a lawyer for me. But I don’t want a lawyer from your family," Leonardo replied.
"Still as arrogant as ever," Margaret said irritably.
"Miss, he says the wings come from his wolf," the younger officer told Margaret, making her frown again.
"A wolf?"
She looked confused, but Leonardo only smiled and continued walking.
The two officers had no choice but to continue escorting him while bowing apologetically to Margaret.
Not long after, Leonardo was already inside a police car, being taken to the station.
He was watched, but not restrained, and could still play with his phone.
He then called Laura.
"What is it?" she answered quickly.
"So here’s the situation. I used wings from my wolf, and the police are accusing me of being the owner of the owl that killed several Awakener a few days ago," Leonardo explained briefly.
He still needed a lawyer.
Otherwise, there was a chance the truth would be exposed if the police investigated more deeply.
"Do you really have a winged wolf?" Laura asked in response.
"Of course. Why would I make up nonsense?" Leonardo replied.
"Then bring your wolf to the police station. I’ll come there immediately."
Laura ended the call after saying that.
When they arrived at the police station, Leonardo found many reporters waiting outside.
As soon as he got out of the car, they surrounded him.
"Anderson, is it true that you are the one who killed the Awakeners?"
"People from Japan say the same owl sound that killed the Golden Golem was heard. Did you kill it? What reward did you get? Is it true you obtained the key to the Last Gate?"
Various questions were thrown at Leonardo, making him unsure how to respond.
"None of that is true!" Leonardo replied briefly before forcing his way through the crowd of reporters, since the police didn’t actually stop them.
The City Z Police Station looked more like a military headquarters.
The entire building seemed to be made of cold steel.
Leonardo was taken inside and brought to a closed interrogation room.
Not long after he arrived, a detective wearing a white shirt entered and sat across from him. He looked fairly young.
"Wait for my lawyer," Leonardo said before the detective could speak.
He was no longer a weak, helpless prisoner.
He had once hired one of the most prestigious lawyers in City Z.
The detective frowned and ultimately stayed silent.
Laura didn’t make him wait long.
She arrived wearing her professional attire.
Today she wore a skirt, though it extended past her knees.
She clearly had just taken a shower, as the scent of soap still lingered around her.
Without greeting anyone, she sat beside Leonardo.
"Detective, my client does indeed have wings, but they come from his wolf," she said.
"Then where is this wolf?" the detective asked.
"It’s still in the Monster World, sleeping to recover. But don’t worry, I will summon it at 2 PM," Leonardo replied.
"Why not now? Is its recovery really that important?"
"Of course. I don’t want anything bad to happen to my wolf because I rely on it. Can you take responsibility if something bad happens?" Leonardo replied angrily.
"What about your other monsters? According to our information, you obtained Soul Conduit Crystal Level 1 and Level 2 from Margaret Harvey. Can you summon them as well?"
"Detective, my client obtained those Soul Conduit Crystals yesterday together with two A-Class Monster Eggs. When those Awakener were killed, my client only had one monster—presumably that wolf—so there is no reason to show the other two," Laura answered.
Leonardo was pleased to hear that. He added, "They haven’t been born yet. I’m still buffing them to make them hatch. Of course, I can show them later after they’re born."
"Alright, Detective. After my client shows you his wolf, I hope you will end this matter—unless you intend to force something untrue onto my client," Laura said again.
The detective’s face twitched.
With his instincts as a detective who had dealt with many evil Awakeners, he felt that something was hidden.
However, with all the facts presented by Leonardo, legally he could not force a deeper investigation unless there was stronger evidence.
In a low voice, he said, "We will wait for the wolf. Until it appears, he cannot leave."
"Of course," Laura nodded.
