Chapter 22: Session

"Boss, who was that arrogant woman? Do you want me to kill her?" Ellie asked while chewing happily.

She had heard the entire conversation clearly.

Leonardo shook his head. "Not now. Not possible."

With no more disturbances—and the cool air from the AC humming softly—he soon fell into deep sleep.

He woke up in the morning feeling unbelievably refreshed and light, as if he had been massaged all night.

"Ahhh..." he exhaled as he sat up.

Ellie was asleep, looking completely satisfied. Every piece of meat Leonardo had bought was gone.

Without waking her, Leonardo went to the bathroom.

There was still plenty of time before the trial, so he soaked in warm water while playing games on his phone.

Not long after, a message from Laura arrived—reminding him not to forget the hearing.

(As if I would forget!) Leonardo replied.

Slightly annoyed, he stopped gaming, got dressed, and left.

He didn’t even eat breakfast.

When he arrived at the courthouse, it had just opened. Many staff members hadn’t even arrived yet.

Still, Leonardo went inside and sat quietly in the lobby, listening to music through small earbuds.

Minute by minute, employees began arriving.

Several people escorted by police officers entered—judges, most likely.

He wasn’t the only one waiting, so he didn’t draw attention.

Eventually, he saw Laura and her assistant, Max Keller.

They looked slightly surprised that he had arrived before them. Laura walked over.

"Lawyer Wilson has agreed to compromise. He’ll concede during the trial without objections and accept our demands. Since he agrees, the judge will have no reason to refuse," she said calmly, sitting across from him.

"What about Margaret? What if she disagrees?" Leonardo asked.

"That’s her mistake. With her pride, she won’t attend the hearing. She won’t know your demands until her lawyer informs her afterward. At that point, she can only blame him for poor performance. Given Wilson’s reputation, he can convince her this was the only way to avoid prison."

"That sounds easy."

"It wouldn’t be if you did it alone. The opposing side could easily argue it was merely police negligence. In the end, you’d only receive apologies from the officers who arrested you."

Leonardo laughed. "Ridiculous."

"That’s why lawyers are important," Laura replied flatly.

"But what if Margaret shows up? Could Wilson still pretend to lose?"

"He will. Authority was fully granted to him by James Harvey. After this escalated, James wouldn’t allow his young daughter to personally get involved again."

Leonardo finally felt reassured.

He wanted everything. No surprises.

Minutes later, Laura stood.

"Lawyer Wilson has arrived."

Leonardo looked toward the entrance.

A middle-aged man with slightly wavy hair entered, impeccably dressed. His handsome face drew hopeful glances from several court employees.

He was alone, carrying a large briefcase stuffed with documents.

When he saw Laura, he approached.

"Mrs. Maxwell, good morning," he greeted politely—though faint tension lingered beneath his tone.

Of course he wasn’t pleased. A younger lawyer had maneuvered him into submission.

"Good morning, Mr. Wilson. Since the session is about to begin, shall we proceed?" Laura replied calmly.

"Of course."

From beginning to end, Wilson never looked at Leonardo.

They entered the courtroom.

Leonardo and Laura sat at the right table. Wilson sat on the left.

The only spectator was Max.

It seemed the Harvey Family had suppressed publicity overnight. Aside from school gossip, no one knew. And no student would dare attend if Margaret forbade it.

Leonardo didn’t care. He only wanted compensation.

Soon, three judges entered, led by an elderly man.

He radiated the presence of someone beyond manipulation.

He surveyed the room and struck the gavel.

"Court is now in session."

"Do you represent the defendant, Margaret Harvey?" he asked Wilson.

"Yes, Your Honor."

"Does the defendant admit to her actions?"

"Yes, Your Honor."

No objections. No excuses.

"You understand the defendant’s actions nearly destroyed a newly awakened young man’s life. This is a serious offense. Not only must the defendant be judged, the victim is entitled to compensation."

"We are prepared to pay," Wilson replied.

"Counsel for the victim, please state the requested compensation."

Laura stood.

"Due to Margaret Harvey’s actions, my client nearly lost his Beast Tamer class—the rarest class among Awakeners, effectively guaranteeing a bright future. In other words, Margaret Harvey nearly stole one of the most valuable things in this world. Although my client survived due to fortune, the losses he suffered are immeasurable. Therefore, he is entitled to greater compensation than victims in similar cases."

She continued smoothly.

"First: 10 million dollars.

A Level 2 Dimensional Ring.

A Level 2 Resonance Core.

Soul Conduit Crystal Level 1 and Level 2.

Two Class A Monster Eggs.

A Class 1 Apartment in City Z.

And a BMW."

"Since my client nearly lost what is most important to an Awakener, it is only reasonable that he receive Awakener-related assets."

Leonardo almost admired how she framed it—making his misfortune sound catastrophic.

Wilson froze.

He had been startled at ten million dollars—but the rest made it far heavier.

A Class 1 apartment alone was worth at least five million. Comparable to a luxury villa.

Even the judges hadn’t expected such extensive demands.

Laura sat down, her sharp gaze fixed on Wilson.

She had not disclosed the full list during negotiations.

Yet Wilson knew—this was manageable for the Harvey Family.

"Mr. Wilson, would you like to offer a defense?" the chief judge asked.

In other words—argue the compensation was excessive.

But if Wilson objected, Margaret might eventually discover how her own allies viewed her behind her back.

That would be far worse than losing a case.

"No, Your Honor. As stated, we are prepared to pay all requested compensation," Wilson said quietly.

The chief judge sensed something unusual.

But that wasn’t his concern.

He simply ruled based on what was presented.

"Since both parties agree, the defendant is hereby ordered to pay all compensation requested by the victim."

The gavel struck sharply.

The verdict was sealed.
