Chapter 18: Value

A clone?

Leonardo hadn’t expected something like that to truly exist.

Of course, he had heard rumors before.

Take ten grapes from the tree?

For him, that was fundamentally easy.

But even in front of this old man—who had a good reputation—Leonardo had no intention of revealing all his abilities under his true identity.

So he would have to rely on his own displayed strength.

Without saying a word, he reached toward a cluster hanging right in front of him.

But suddenly, the old man moved with terrifying speed—so fast Leonardo could barely see him—and grabbed his wrist just as he was about to touch the fruit.

"Mr. Maxwell, I think this test is a bit too harsh," Leonardo said helplessly.

"You’re a Beast Tamer. Use whatever tricks you have. I need to know whether you’re worth helping."

"So you want to know my value?"

Leonardo understood people like this old man.

Many believed he genuinely wished to make humanity stronger.

It was hard to believe such a selfless desire existed in an era where egos were too large to contain.

Yet the old man’s sincerity was acknowledged by many because of his countless contributions.

"Yes. Show me your value. If you’re truly worth it, I can even make the Harvey Family stop targeting you."

Leonardo knew that if he revealed his true worth, many might be willing to support him.

But that wasn’t the path he wanted.

His real value was excessive. Instead of gaining allies, he might become a target for everyone.

But what if he limited what he showed?

Just enough to gain support—without becoming desirable prey.

That wouldn’t be bad.

(Ellie, find some monsters. Command them to assist me—but only Class B and C monsters.)

The ability to directly summon a group of Class B and C monsters to assist him—this was impressive, yet not as outrageous as his strange teleportation abilities.

He was confident it wouldn’t lead the Association Head to suspect he possessed an SS Class monster.

That would be far too absurd to imagine.

"Why are you just standing there?" the old man asked.

Leonardo made no move.

Instead, he suddenly looked up.

A flock of eagles flew overhead.

Some were as large as sedans, shrieking sharply.

When the Association Head glanced up at them, they suddenly dove downward.

"Hm? Do they want these grapes too?" he wondered aloud before shaking his head.

"Impossible. Eagles are carnivores—they don’t eat fruit. Boy, is this your trick? If it is, there’s no need to continue. I couldn’t stop you if there are this many."

(Ellie, stop them.)

Leonardo simply issued the command with a faint smile. The eagles immediately scattered and flew away. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The old man continued watching them, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"It seems your monster has a rare and unique ability. Is this some kind of mental control? Or does your monster emit a false aura that forces other monsters into submission?"

Leonardo didn’t know how to respond to that speculation.

So he chose silence.

The old man didn’t press him. Everyone had their secrets.

"Well, I’ll be leaving now. You can take the grapes," he said briefly before turning to go.

"Mr. Maxwell, what about my case?" Leonardo still felt the need to confirm.

"Since I’ve promised, I’ll handle it now. Before tonight, you will no longer be a suspect. In fact, you could even countersue them if you wish."

Leonardo exhaled in relief.

At last, his freedom would be restored.

The Harvey Family might try other methods, but if he fought back, the law would view it as self-defense.

Countersue?

That was an interesting idea.

With the help of a prestigious lawyer, it wouldn’t be difficult.

"Ellie, help me collect these grapes," Leonardo said, sensing Ellie’s presence beside him.

There were more than a thousand of them, but each grape was small. Carrying them all wasn’t difficult.

Leonardo used his jacket as a makeshift sack, gathering every single Dragon Blood Grape.
