The two swiftly put on their half masks and, in the very next moment, appeared before the table.

Instead of the full group being here, there was only Amara, with the others occupied with their own tasks.

But that was enough, as after all, she was the leader.

"Once again, good job," Amara commended before pulling out a stack of papers and sending them Sarah’s way, saying, "Fill out the report as per usual."

"Yes, Am—First Veil," Sarah replied with a nod, nearly using her actual name here.

What he had found out was that there were certain rules in this place that Amara tried her best to uphold—one of them being the usage of titles, such as the First Veil, to address her.

Amara turned towards Neraxis and signaled with her chin to follow.

He went after her, walking through the throne room, away from the table and into a small room with two sofas facing each other.

That was the least of his ominous worries, however, as she suddenly sat down, pulled out a strange black phone, and handed it over to him.

"You don’t need to always come here to communicate with us. Use that—it has each and every contact of ours," she explained as he put the phone in his pocket.

"This is protected heavily, I assume?" Neraxis questioned, just to be sure.

Amara nodded in response. "It is. No one other than you or me can get into it. Though don’t use it for the time being unless there’s an emergency, since I will be using it to inform you of missions."

"About that..." Neraxis interjected. "You promised to send me on something a bit more serious the next time around. Is it going to be related to this goal you have been hiding from me?"

She leaned back and shrugged. "Fifth Veil, what if I told you there are only a couple of years left until the world goes to shit?"

Fifth Veil? I guess it makes sense since Delta isn’t a Veiled one. he raised his brow before answering, "I’d say I need to hear the full reason first."

"Of course," Amara chuckled before adding, "However, I can’t tell you everything yet. The same goes for everyone else."

"But the others know more than I do, so it would only be fair, don’t you think?" he mused, making Amara take out her phone and begin typing something.

Not even a moment later, the phone in his pocket vibrated. Once he checked what it was, Neraxis saw an app had been downloaded.

Puzzled, he swiftly opened it, and what greeted his eyes was some kind of interface that stated he had 100 points in total.

Below it, there were all sorts of prompts, but they all shared one common feature.

"100 points for a... low access answer? 1,000 for middle access and... 100,000 points for high access information," he attempted to scroll further, but to no avail.

That was all there was to it.

"First Veil, are these 100 points from the mission I completed?" Neraxis questioned, seemingly already knowing the answer.

And he was correct.

"That’s right. With each mission and its difficulty, every member gets some points that they can use to ask me or Delta questions. Since the mission you completed was extremely easy and your role was not that big, you received 100 points—the practical baseline," Amara explained, earning a nod from him in response.

"What can I do with 100 points?"

She twirled her hair and answered. "Vague details of the organization’s goal that you can try piecing together if you’d like. Or just simple trivia—up to you, really."

I don’t really have anything to ask besides the goal for now... Neraxis thought and said,

"Then I want to know this so-called vague goal of yours."

Immediately, Amara narrowed her eyes and tapped a couple of times on her phone. Not even a moment later, his points were deducted and brought back to zero.

"We seek to preserve a certain balance in this world, which, in a couple of years, will be tested. For that balance to exist, however, we must kill all who stand in our path. Hence, the next missions you will be going on will not be as friendly and peaceful as this one," Amara stated in a mysterious tone.

However, he was not exactly amused by that answer, since aside from something he had already known, he did not find out anything else.

"First Veil, you already mentioned all of that," he said with furrowed brows.

"I indeed have," Amara chuckled, before continuing, "Here’s a little bonus then. We aim to sever the chains binding us to the higher powers that lie beyond this world."

Hmm... I don’t know what I expected from a vague answer—Huh? Neraxis’s thoughts were interrupted as, by the side, a red system window emerged and flew right in front of him.

What the fuck? his eyes widened, but all of a sudden, Amara stood up, a frown plastered on her face.

"Sorry, Fifth Veil, but you need to head back. An emergency has arisen. I will contact you within the span of the month."

As her words fell, she pulled out the familiar ethereal sword and immediately slashed downward, making him disappear from both the room and The Obscura’s headquarters.

Just like last time, it was instant, and all he could see afterward was the outline of his house.

Evangeline... he called out, still feeling a tad bit awkward from earlier. Nonetheless, the answer was instant.

[What’s up?]

Did you feel anything off just before Amara stood up? Like any sort of mana being emitted or something? Neraxis questioned.

Alas, that did not seem to be the case.

[Nope, the only thing I felt was you being pent up,] Evangeline said with a chuckle, making his brows twitch.

[Just kidding... But no, I didn’t feel anything off. However, I did feel something on your side a few moments ago,] she added, earning a puzzled look from him.

What did you feel?

[I don’t really know how to explain it...] she trailed off in a soft hum. [But... it’s almost like you received a tiny portion of mana from god knows where, and I can still feel it in your body.]

Oh... he immediately understood what she was talking about.

The system logs—they had appeared, and not even a second later, the expression on Amara’s face worsened.

That was also in line with what Evangeline had said. Therefore, the only answers he could seek were from the system message ahead.

But just as he glanced at it, her surprised voice rang out again. [Hey, what’s that?]

She appeared in her sword form, hovering over the accept button of the system message.

You can see it now? he mused with interest.

[Yup, it just appeared. Wait, I can see your skill descriptions too now!] Evangeline exclaimed as she frantically began scrolling through each of his skills.

[Wooah, they are really good!] she said with a giggle and continued reading his skills, which he simply ignored.

Meanwhile, while she was having fun, it was probably a good choice to check out the system logs.

Yes.

Neraxis was expecting to see a similar dialogue pan out, but instead, he found himself standing in a dimly lit room, the damp air making his stomach churn.

And soon, the final notification descended.
