The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth-Chapter 37: Deserve Death
Chapter 37: Deserve Death
Vacuse stopped just inches from the orb, and then he looked at the small Void Dragon on his shoulder. "I should give you a name. That one is obviously too long. Let’s see... how about Rith? It’s the last letters of your name."
It was as if the small Void Dragon was just settling into its personality, and all because it just shrugged.
Vacuse grinned. "Rith it is then!"
In his place, Duke Frexon finally got what he thought was wrong, and his eyes widened. All the others that did their own, the form of their beast was from different colored light. Why then?
Why did Vacuse’s own appear in the form of black, and more importantly, why does it look so realistic instead of a projection?
The Duke could feel everything he had planned and invested in starting to crumble before his eyes. His face hardened, and a cold aura surrounded him, flickering faintly with green light.
He would not just sit back and let things fall as they wanted. He built his name and power in the family until he wrestled control of it from his uncle and became the Duke of the Red Leaves and Sevrix.
"You!" he shouted and pointed sharply at Vacuse. "You deserve to die!"
His voice echoed in the room, so loud and strong that everyone became silent and turned to him.
Vacuse frowned. What’s happening again?
He looked towards Drenvar, but the man seemed to be deep in thought. So he turned towards the Duke that was getting closer to Severin. "What?"
The Duke was smiling softly, but Vacuse noticed the way his eyes were fixed on him like a predator and the tightening of muscles that happened when one was getting ready for a fight.
’..this man wants me dead..’ Vacuse came to the realization immediately.
Of course, not a lot of people would notice those subtle things, but Vacuse had lived his life on the ground staring at those at the top. Those subtle movements that even experts missed are what kept him alive.
It wasn’t a skill. It was desperation to cling to life.
So when the Duke came even closer, Vacuse came to a decision that he didn’t like. ’..the Duke was more powerful than me, more so... and if he should come within striking, then I’m dead...’
So Vacuse flipped the game. He grinned madly and pointed at the man in return, shouting at the top of his voice. "Duke Frexon! Why do you try to kill me?"
Wait... what?
A stunned silence fell in the room, and the Duke came to a sudden pause. His eyes went wide. ’..did he predict what I am about to do?..’
Everyone’s attention was now on the Duke. And on Vacuse. They watched the two of them with surprise. One said he deserved to die, and the other just accused the other of trying to kill him.
Just what is happening?
Drenvar frowned as he composed himself. His gaze became weighty as it rested on Vacuse. He had already increased the value of Vacuse in his mind because even if the beast on his neck isn’t a Dragon, then he must have discovered a new Dragon kin.
So he wasn’t afraid to step on toes. Vacuse now had value.
The Dragon Lord’s voice turned chilly. "What are you trying to do in my hall, Frexon?"
Duke Frexon was shocked that Drenvar just used his name like that and with such a tone. He blinked.
Drenvar’s face grew harsh. "How dare you try to proclaim a son of the Dragon as deserving death?"
Everyone tensed immediately, because they recognized the tone that the Dragon Lord was using.
The elite of the family that were in the room, the knights that stood against the wall, straightened, and the hall began to boil with subtle bloodlust.
A lot might be said of the Vorrakyn. But it could never be said that they were cowards who are afraid of a fight. Or death. When they start fighting, they see it to the bitter end.
Even as an S-ranked and strong enough, Duke Frexon knew that he was alone in the hall without his own guards. He could fight, but he would not come out whole.
He raised his hand, and his face quickly turned into a warm smile. "I’m just speaking for the heir, your Honorable Grace."
Drenvar raised his brows. "Heir? When did the Dragon have a new heir? When was it proclaimed? Or... Duke Frexon Sevrix of the Red Leaves, are you trying to choose an heir for the Vorrakyn?"
That moment, whispers began to spread in the room, and the faces of the family changed. Red eyes glowed and focused entirely on the Duke in such a way that his hands clenched.
Vacuse grinned. ’...ah my family.. they can be intimidating assholes when they want to be.. once they give you their support truthfully or respect your power..’
It was Amon that broke the ice. He laughed loudly and strode forward. "Duke Frexon is right!"
He declared loudly, and those uncanny red eyes turned on him.
Even Drenvar turned to him. Although he didn’t say anything, he only watched with an unreadable expression.
Amon bowed to the Dragon Lord. "Father... you are the one that said that the Vorrakyn are warriors that respect power. The foundation of the family was built on it. Things that are weak and useless should be cut away!"
As Amon spoke, the energy around him spilled outward as he showed the dominance of his beast. The surrounding candidates shifted uncomfortably, because it felt like someone was pressing knives against their throats.
Drenvar nodded. "What you speak of is the truth, Amon Vorrakyn, but what is your point?"
Amon pointed at Vacuse with an arrogant expression. "He’s weak and useless. He has only a Dragonet. Father, I demand the right to kill the weakling!"
His words rang in the silent hall, and everyone watched Drenvar with anticipation.
Unexpectedly, Drenvar smiled. "I think I will not involve myself with the two of you again. Both of you are not going to stop until you kill each other, right?"
Vacuse sighed softly.
