The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 76: One’s Own Life Matters Most
The hands behind her held Su Xinyao tightly.
Hearing his words, Su Xinyao pushed him away in annoyance. "Money, money, money. That’s all you think about."
After she spoke, Su Xinyao stepped forward and turned on the light, revealing a somewhat youthful face.
But upon closer inspection, the face bore a slight resemblance to Mr. Su.
He smiled, came over, and sat down to the side. "Sister, why else would I have followed you all the way here, if not for money?"
Su Rui’an reached out, poured a glass of water, and pushed it in front of Su Xinyao.
If Su Tang were here, she might have recognized him from the scant memories she had from the original novel.
This was the son of her aunt from Shanghai Island.
The original novel had described him as having a tear-shaped beauty mark under the corner of his eye, making him very easy to recognize.
"Su Rui’an, I don’t care what your objective is. If you want to keep staying here, you’d better behave yourself."
Su Xinyao crossed her arms, her brow furrowed as she stared at Su Rui’an.
After saying this, she turned away and rubbed her forehead as if troubled.
’It’s been a year since I was reborn, and I’ve only just come to terms with the betrayal from my past life.’
’I thought going to Xiangjiang would be a new beginning for me.’
’I never expected it would be the start of another nightmare.’
’Thank God I was given a second chance.’
Su Xinyao knew that in the future, Lu Xiao would become a man of great power and influence.
If she could latch onto Lu Xiao, the benefits would be immense.
That was why she had come to the Northwest. She just hadn’t expected to run into Su Rui’an on the way.
"Su Xinyao, there’s no need to threaten me. If it weren’t for Mrs. Su, you wouldn’t have been able to change your surname to Su."
"If I get my hands on the money Su Tang has, there’s no need for me to split it with you."
Su Rui’an stood up and walked over to Su Xinyao. His gaze was malicious as he stared her down.
"A partnership should be mutually beneficial, of course. So what can I get from you?"
Su Xinyao looked at the young man before her and understood his hidden meaning.
Su Rui’an had always had a roguish, carefree attitude, which was precisely why he wasn’t favored by his parents.
Aunt Su had three sons and two daughters; Su Rui’an was the fourth child.
Originally, Su Rui’an’s father wanted to arrange for him to enlist in the army on Shanghai Island, but Su Rui’an was completely unsuited for military life.
Later, he heard from somewhere that before Mr. and Mrs. Su went to Shanghai Island, they had given all their money to Su Tang.
Acting on the principle that taking money is much faster than earning it himself, Su Rui’an came to the Northwest.
Running into Su Xinyao was purely an accident.
But for him, having an extra accomplice could only be a good thing.
Su Xinyao listened to Su Rui’an’s words without saying anything more.
Meanwhile, Su Tang was naturally unaware of all these goings-on.
After she returned home, she didn’t give Su Xinyao another thought.
’No matter how much I think about it, Su Xinyao is going to stay here anyway.’
’Since Su Xinyao is pretending not to know me, I might as well pretend not to know her too.’
’It actually saves me a lot of trouble.’
"Doctor Su, are you home?"
Just as Su Tang was pondering these things, Li Haixin’s voice came from outside the door.
Hearing this, Su Tang went to open the door. "Master Li? What brings you here?"
As she finished speaking, Su Tang saw the person behind Li Haixin.
"Sister-in-law?"
Su Tang was quite surprised to see the two of them appear together.
However, she didn’t ask any questions, instead opening the door wide to let them in.
"Quickly, come in."
Li Haixin entered first, followed by Zhang Cui, who was holding Mai Sui.
Su Tang poured two glasses of water for them and got a fruit candy for Mai Sui.
"Master Li, Sister-in-law, for the two of you to come see me together... what’s this about?"
After doing all this, Su Tang sat down across from them.
Faced with Su Tang’s question, both Li Haixin and Zhang Cui seemed a little nervous.
Su Tang was clearly the younger one, yet they felt as if she were an elder.
"What’s wrong? Why are you just staring at me without saying anything?"
Su Tang smiled, trying to ease the tense atmosphere with a lighthearted tone.
’Li Haixin and Zhang Cui wouldn’t come to see me together for no reason.’
’It must be something important.’
"Well, it’s like this..."
Li Haixin rubbed his large hands together, his face a mixture of unconcealable joy and a hint of nervousness. "Doctor Su, it’s—it’s like this... Zhang Cui and I, we’re planning to get married!"
Su Tang’s eyes lit up, and she broke into a genuine smile. "That’s wonderful news! Congratulations! Master Li, Sister-in-law, I’m so happy for you two for getting together!"
She looked at Zhang Cui. "Sister-in-law, Master Li is an honest man. He’s good to you and to Mai Sui. Your life together is sure to get better and brighter."
A shy smile appeared on Zhang Cui’s face, and she nodded lightly.
"Li, you’ve said your piece. Why don’t you take Mai Sui outside for a bit? I want to talk with my little sister."
Zhang Cui stood up and placed the child in Li Haixin’s arms.
Mai Sui naturally wrapped her arms around Li Haixin’s neck, clearly showing her reliance on him.
After Li Haixin left with Mai Sui in his arms, Zhang Cui had Su Tang sit beside her.
"Little sister, for this, I have you to thank."
"Sister-in-law, you’re giving me all the credit. How could I deserve so much praise?"
Hearing this, Zhang Cui just smiled and shook her head.
"Little sister, if you hadn’t persuaded me, I’d probably still be all tied up in knots."
Zhang Cui was an overthinker. She worried that if she remarried, her new husband might not be good to Mai Sui.
What if Wang Jianfeng came back looking for her? What would she do then?
She thought too much and forgot to look closely at everything Li Haixin had done for her.
No one is perfect, but Li Haixin’s treatment of her and Mai Sui was truly impeccable.
"Sister-in-law, I’m sure you thought this decision through very carefully."
"In any case, as your little sister, I only have one wish: I hope you can live a good and happy life."
Su Tang held Zhang Cui’s hands.
Ever since she first arrived at the family compound, Zhang Cui had always been helping her.
No matter what she did, Zhang Cui always stood by her side, even helping her win the favor of the others in the compound.
It was safe to say that without Zhang Cui, Su Tang felt there were some things she might not have been able to accomplish on her own.
From the bottom of her heart, Su Tang truly thought of Zhang Cui as her own dear sister, her own sister-in-law.
Seeing her happy made Su Tang happier than anything else.
"Good little sister, we’re family. There’s no need for such talk between us."
And wasn’t Zhang Cui just as incredibly lucky to have met Su Tang?
After the two "sisters" finished talking, Zhang Cui left.
Su Tang went back inside and started rummaging through her chests and cabinets, looking for a wedding gift for Zhang Cui.
She had plenty of things, but most of them didn’t feel quite right to give as a gift.
Finally, Su Tang found a cotton shawl. The material was excellent, and the crochet work was beautiful.
It was the perfect gift for Zhang Cui.
After finding the gift, Su Tang thought she would go find Lu Xiao on her next day off to tell him the news.
Lu Xiao was very busy these days; it wasn’t certain he could even come back every ten days or half a month.
Every time he came back, he was very clingy, but his leave was usually only two or three days.
The couple now spent more time apart than together.
