The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 26: Noah Raines’ Teasing
"Brother..."
Holly gently tugged on Leo Grant’s clothes, biting her lip, hiding by Leo’s side, looking scared.
She looked timidly at Rosalie Jennings, with her hand still trembling while holding onto Leo’s clothes.
Rosalie Jennings: "..."
Seeing Holly’s frightened look, Rosalie was furious, thinking Holly was truly good at pretending.
Evidently a big bad wolf with its tail tucked between its legs, yet insists on being a little white rabbit; Rosalie increasingly felt Holly couldn’t be kept around.
"Let’s go, we’re going home."
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head, ignoring Rosalie.
No need to listen.
Rosalie was very angry, sweeping the tableware off the table, stifling her anger.
The ball certainly wasn’t a simple affair, it was planned for Leo, and she had tried to lure him there.
Didn’t expect this plan to fail too; all because of Holly.
"Brother, that sister is so fierce."
Holly gently bit her lip and said, her tone full of grievance.
"Holly, tell me honestly, did you do something to Rosalie?"
Leo stopped walking, squatting down to look directly into Holly’s eyes, asking her seriously.
Having dated Rosalie for a year, he understood her well enough; although not a great person, she wouldn’t lie.
Holly must’ve said or done something to Rosalie.
"Brother..."
Holly blinked her eyes, lowering her head slightly.
"Tell me, hmm? Brother won’t blame Holly."
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head, his voice soft and gentle.
You wouldn’t expect the little girl’s character to be so soft.
Leo wasn’t naive; a girl who acts adorably in front of him isn’t necessarily adorable in front of others.
Even a little white rabbit will bite when cornered.
"I don’t like that sister, I broke her phone."
Holly lowered her head, nervously rubbing her clothes with her hands.
"Brother, you won’t abandon Holly, will you?"
Holly looked up at Leo, her eyes filled with tears, appearing pitifully delicate.
Holly also knew Leo wasn’t foolish; he wouldn’t blindly believe her. She didn’t want much, only that Leo wouldn’t send her away.
"Don’t worry, brother’s home is Holly’s haven too."
Leo immediately smiled.
The little girl was so cute, how could he bear to lose her?
Leo and Holly went home, finding Noah Raines lounging with legs crossed in the living room, acting like a big boss.
"Hey, back from the date?"
Noah had a toothpick in his mouth, watching the two as they entered, raising an eyebrow in a teasing manner.
He was just here for a meal, but Holly and Leo weren’t home; luckily Mrs. Hayes prepared a meal for him.
He freelances, often too lazy to cook, always coming over for meals, unlike Nathaniel Shaw who’s constantly busy, Noah has a lot of free time.
"What nonsense."
Leo ripped off his tie and tossed it at Noah’s face.
He says anything.
"Brother, were we on a date?"
Holly hugged a popcorn box, looking up innocently, asking while popping a piece into her mouth.
Her face showed confusion, her eyes curiosity, as though she understood nothing.
Leo: "No."
"Where did the little girl go play?"
Noah blinked and pulled out a few lollipops from his pocket to give to Holly, wearing the look of someone trying to lure an unsuspecting girl.
"I went to the movies with brother, then accompanied him to discuss a collaboration, and then we came home."
Holly said seriously, her eyes clear.
"Noah brother, want some popcorn?"
She offered the popcorn she was holding to Noah, blinking as she asked.
Noah treated her to candy, so naturally, she should offer him popcorn too, just to keep things fair.
Noah didn’t hesitate, grabbing a handful of popcorn and tossing one into his mouth, "Hmm, very sweet."
He eyed Leo with a mischievous expression.
Leo: "..."
"You did go on a date; a date is about watching a movie, eating popcorn, and drinking milk tea."
Noah coughed slightly, speaking earnestly, holding in his laughter.
As they say, lying with no preparation; the little girl seemed so naive, he could trick her playfully.
"Oh."
Holly nodded thoughtfully.
Internally, she cursed Noah nonstop; if it weren’t for maintaining her image, she might have already reacted.
Is it really okay to deceive a naive girl with words?
"Holly, don’t listen to him, he’s full of bad ideas, not a word worth hearing."
Leo picked up a pillow from the sofa and launched it at Noah, then gently spoke to Holly.
Holly blinked, looking at Noah and then at Leo, suddenly confused about whom to believe.
"But, I think Noah brother’s words make so much sense."
Holly fell silent for a bit, then slowly spoke, her gaze at Leo pure and puzzled.
Leo: "..."
Noah held in laughter as he looked at Leo.
"Go take a bath and sleep, it’s late, Holly has class tomorrow morning."
Leo gently rubbed Holly’s head, slowly saying.
"Okay."
The little girl obediently nodded and went upstairs.
"Are you really here just for food?"
After Holly went upstairs, Leo sat beside Noah, asking.
Twenty-odd years of brotherhood, a single glance could communicate what the other was thinking; Leo knew Noah was here for more than food.
"No, I went to a ball today."
Noah shook his head.
Leo: "Hmm?"
The ball Noah mentioned must be the one Rosalie talked about.
Noah usually has lots of leisure time, almost never skipping parties like these.
"Rosalie wants to deal with you."
Noah said, still finding it quite unbelievable.
Rosalie likes Leo; she shouldn’t be trying to deal with him.
Leo and Holly parted ways with Rosalie and didn’t go home right away but took a stroll through the night market.
The young girl is a foodie, naturally Leo had to make sure she was fed.
Noah initially meant to go have fun, unexpectedly saw the aggressive Rosalie, accidentally overhearing her conversation with others.
Unavoidably, it was about the failed plan, not having brought Leo over, and so on; Noah was quite taken aback when he overheard.
"If Holly hadn’t been there, I might’ve gone."
Leo lowered his eyes, slowly speaking.
Yes, he was worried about Holly, so he bluntly rejected Rosalie. Having just discussed a collaboration, it was only supposed to be a formality; normally he’d give Rosalie some courtesy.
