The Side Character Wants to Lie Flat-Chapter 73: So It Was Lady Hua Pulling the Strings
Although Han Zhenzhen was filled with grievances and resentment, she knew very well that she could never leave Prince Zhao.
After all, Prince Zhao was destined to become the Regent King, with power over the entire imperial court.
This was his moment of greatest weakness, which also made it the perfect time to latch onto him.
Han Zhenzhen could not give up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
There was only one path left for her now—
to do everything she could to win Prince Zhao’s favor.
’Since I’ve already been wronged, I can’t let it be for nothing.’
’I have to use this opportunity to create an image for myself—that of a strong, forbearing woman who understands the bigger picture despite her suffering. I need to win as much of Prince Zhao’s pity and guilt as possible.’
She clutched the gold-embroidered folding fan tightly in both hands, her eyes fixed on the door. She was ready at a moment’s notice, so the Prince would see her at her most pitiful and lovable the instant he walked in.
However, she waited and waited, but Prince Zhao never appeared.
Han Zhenzhen simply couldn’t sit still any longer.
She sent Xingyu to inquire again.
Xingyu left quickly and soon came rushing back.
Han Zhenzhen asked impatiently.
"Where is the Prince? Was he delayed on the way? Why isn’t he at Jade Pavilion yet?"
Xingyu’s expression was grim.
She said carefully, "The Prince is not coming to Jade Pavilion."
Han Zhenzhen froze, her eyes widening in disbelief as she asked.
"He’s not coming? How is that possible? Tonight is our wedding night! How could he not come to me?"
"It’s because the Prince was held up by Lady Hua!"
As Xingyu spoke, her face filled with indignation. "I just found out everything. The Prince returned with Lady Hua. This means she used some trick to lure him away! Lady Hua is deliberately trying to ruin things between you and the Prince!"
Han Zhenzhen had been suspicious about the reason for Prince Zhao’s departure from the start.
She hadn’t believed Gao Shan’s excuse for a second.
Now, hearing Xingyu’s words, Han Zhenzhen finally understood. So it was Lady Hua causing trouble behind the scenes!
’Then everything makes sense.’
’Prince Zhao’s sudden departure wasn’t a coincidence. It was Lady Hua’s doing.’
’That woman is far more insidious and cunning than I ever imagined!’
Han Zhenzhen gripped the gold-embroidered folding fan so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
She asked in a voice filled with hatred.
"Did the Prince go to Lady Hua’s residence tonight?"
"No, he didn’t," Xingyu replied. "The Prince returned to the Mountain and Sea Residence."
Han Zhenzhen felt a slight sense of relief.
She was just about to mock Lady Hua—’all that scheming, and in the end, she still couldn’t keep the Prince with her?!’
But then she heard Xingyu add.
"Lady Hua went to the Mountain and Sea Residence with him."
Han Zhenzhen’s expression froze.
A furious flame of jealousy ignited in her chest.
She threw the fan to the ground!
"Why her?!"
The fan slammed violently onto the floor.
CRACK! The white jade handle snapped in two.
Xingyu jumped in fright and instinctively took a step back.
Han Zhenzhen’s chest heaved, her eyes turning red.
This time, they weren’t red from crying, but purely from rage.
Xingyu hesitated for a moment before quietly adding a few more words.
"I’ve heard that Lady Hua has been spending her nights at the Mountain and Sea Residence for the past few days. The Prince has given her special permission to attend to him personally. Nowadays, Lady Hua is managing all of the Prince’s affairs."
The more Han Zhenzhen heard, the more she seethed. Jealousy and resentment twisted inside her, threatening to consume what little reason she had left.
She couldn’t bear it any longer and shot to her feet!
But she stood up too quickly, and a wave of dizziness made her sway.
Xingyu quickly steadied her and asked with concern.
"My Lady, are you alright?"
