The Side Character Wants to Lie Flat-Chapter 47: I’ve Finally Found You
To avoid extra work, Hua Manman hastily came up with an excuse to go out.
"I just remembered—Tianxiang Pavilion has new cosmetics in stock. I have to go see. If I’m late, all the pretty shades will be sold out."
With that, she stood up and made a show of dashing outside.
Gao Shan hurriedly asked, "What about these ledgers and gift lists?"
Hua Manman brushed him off. "You can handle it."
She practically fled the Prince Mansion.
Si Yun followed behind her, asking curiously.
"My Lady, how did you know Tianxiang Pavilion was getting new cosmetics?"
Hua Manman took a deep sniff. She caught a faint, sweet scent, and a happy smile immediately blossomed on her face.
"I don’t know if Tianxiang Pavilion has anything new, but I do know there’s something delicious up ahead."
With that, she followed the aroma and hurried forward.
Si Yun followed close behind, calling out a reminder.
"My Lady, slow down! Be careful not to fall."
Hua Manman found a pastry shop nearby.
The aroma she had smelled earlier was wafting from this very shop.
She eagerly ran inside and bought one of every pastry that caught her eye.
She bought so much that she couldn’t carry it all herself; thankfully, Si Yun was there to help.
Hua Manman couldn’t wait to open one of the oiled-paper bags. She picked out a piece of peach blossom crisp and took a bite. It was fragrant, crisp, and delicious—sweet but not overwhelming. So good!
She walked out of the shop, still eating.
Si Yun followed behind, her arms full of several oiled-paper bags.
They had just stepped out of the pastry shop when they heard someone call out.
"Manman!"
Hua Manman stopped and looked toward the voice. A handsome young gentleman in a cyan long robe was striding toward them.
With a single glance, relying on the residual memories of this body, Hua Manman knew who he was.
It was Song Ding!
Song Ding was eighteen, with fine, handsome features. Hailing from an Imperial Doctor Family, he had studied medicine under his elders since childhood. He carried a gentle, compassionate air about him that made people feel he was kind and approachable.
At this moment, however, his brow was tightly furrowed and anger simmered in his eyes, making him look rather intimidating. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
He marched right up to Hua Manman and said in a low voice,
"I finally found you!"
Hua Manman knew this body’s previous owner had a rather ambiguous relationship with him. Feeling a prickle of guilt, she subconsciously took a step back.
She tried to act nonchalant, asking in feigned confusion,
"What do you mean?"
Seeing her dare to play dumb, Song Ding’s anger flared.
He asked through gritted teeth, "Are you sure you want to talk here?"
Hua Manman glanced around and noticed quite a few people looking in their direction.
Even if the customs in the Great Zhou Dynasty were relatively liberal, it was still improper for a young man and woman to cause a scene on the street.
Not wanting to cause any trouble, Hua Manman suggested,
"Let’s go sit in the teahouse across the street."
The three of them went to the teahouse across the street.
After they left, two young women emerged from the pastry shop.
The woman in the lead wore a pale purple, high-waisted gown. She had crimson lips, pearly teeth, and dark hair piled high like a cloud. A faint vermillion mole near the corner of her right eye added a unique allure to her beautiful face.
This was Han Zhenzhen, the illegitimate daughter of the Assistant Minister of Rites, and also the soon-to-be-wed nanny for Prince Zhao.
Han Zhenzhen stood by the side of the street, her expression thoughtful as she gazed at the teahouse across the way.
The maidservant behind her whispered,
"Wasn’t that woman with Young Master Song just now Lady Hua from the Prince Zhao Mansion? This servant feels like something is a little off about their relationship."
It was unclear what thought crossed Han Zhenzhen’s mind, but her lips curved into a faint smile.
"I haven’t seen Hua Qingqing in a while. The weather is nice today; I think I’ll ask her out for tea."
"Yes."
