The Side Character Wants to Lie Flat-Chapter 30: It’s Over
Li Ji asked, perfectly composed.
"So, you’re scared now? Did you ever think this moment would come when you were spreading those rumors?"
Li Lou hadn’t expected him to uncover the truth so quickly. Panic seized his heart.
But Li Lou forced a calm expression and flatly denied it.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about! You must have the wrong person. Let me go!"
Li Ji angled a glance at Chen Wangbei, who stood waiting behind him.
Chen Wangbei understood at once and had his subordinate bring someone in.
When Li Lou got a clear look at the person being brought in, his face fell. His mind went blank, exploding with two simple words—
’It’s over!’
The person brought in was none other than Li Lou’s personal manservant.
Li Lou trusted this manservant implicitly and entrusted many important tasks to him, including spreading the rumors about Prince Zhao being unfilial toward Princess Rouwan.
The manservant, covered in wounds, knelt on the floor, weeping with tears and snot streaming down his face.
"I’m sorry, Young Master. I didn’t mean to betray you. I had no choice.
If I didn’t tell the truth, they wouldn’t just beat me to death, they’d send my entire family into military exile.
I could only... I told them everything.
I’ve wronged you, Young Master. I deserve to die!"
With that, he began to slam his head against the floor.
Li Lou was so furious he could have burst, wishing he could charge forward and tear this wretched servant to shreds.
But he was bound fast and couldn’t move an inch. All he could do was scream curses at the top of his lungs.
Despite his aristocratic upbringing, he spewed the foulest of curses.
Not wanting his Prince’s ears to be sullied, Chen Wangbei spoke in a low voice.
"Your Highness, perhaps you should get some fresh air. Leave this to me."
Li Ji indeed had no desire to waste any more time on such a clown, so he left.
The door shut behind him.
An instant later, Li Lou’s blood-curdling screams erupted from within the room.
In truth, Li Ji had countless ways to make Li Lou disappear from the world without a trace.
But he hadn’t.
He chose the simplest, most brutal method.
As for how much trouble this would cause him, he couldn’t care less.
Seated in his wheelchair, Li Ji tilted his head back slightly, eyes narrowed, enjoying the pleasant sensation of the breeze on his face.
’In this world, there is nothing left for me to care about.’
After a long while, Li Lou’s screams gradually faded until they disappeared completely.
The door slid open and Chen Wangbei stepped out. His hands and the hem of his robes were spattered with blood. Paired with his cold, stern expression, he looked terrifying.
He cupped his fist in a salute. "Your Highness, Li Lou has fainted. Shall I wake him to continue the punishment?"
Li Ji said nonchalantly, "No need. Send him back."
"Yes, Your Highness!"
The blood-soaked Li Lou was carried out by trusted aides and sent back to the Duke Zhen Country Mansion.
By the time Princess Rouwan saw Li Lou, it was already the next morning.
She was horrified by the sight of his bloody and mangled state.
After Li Lou regained consciousness, Princess Rouwan questioned him about what had happened. Upon learning Li Ji was responsible, she was overcome with fury and cursed him for being less than human.
Heedless of everyone’s attempts to stop her, she stormed out of the Duke Zhen Country Mansion and took a carriage straight to the Prince Zhao Mansion.
She swore to herself that she would teach that rebellious son, Li Ji, a harsh lesson, lest he go on to harm anyone else.
However, when she arrived at the Prince Zhao Mansion, she was informed that the Prince was not in residence.
Gao Shan explained politely.
"Today is the third day since her marriage, so Lady Hua is making her traditional visit to her family home. The Prince has accompanied her and will likely not return until very late. Perhaps Your Grace could return another day?"
