Chapter 263: The Escape

A month passed after the passing of Agnes Roberts. The estate lawyer read the will. Rory got almost everything her grandmother owned.

Rory was a bit surprised but Liam was not.

Mrs. Delport received five million dollars from Agnes. Mrs. Delport was surprised. She didn’t think that she deserved that much and got overwhelmed.

Rory was not that surprised about that. She would have been surprised if Mrs. Delport was left out of her will.

Rory talked to Mrs. Delport. She was finding it hard to even think about living without Agnes Roberts. She had dedicated her life to serving Agnes Roberts; she seemed to have lost it all after Agnes’ death.

And while talking to Mrs. Delport, Rory understood that Mrs. Delport does not want to leave the house. She mentioned the generously large sum of money left by Agnes. And she hadn’t spent the salary she was paid for the years she stayed in the Roberts household. She felt like she has a lot more than she needs.

She could get a pretty decent house in any place she wants and have savings for a pretty decent rest of her life. What she lacked was not money.

Rory asked if Mrs. Delport is willing to come with her to their new home. They do have a castle that can house many. But Mrs. Delport was not keen on leaving the country. She didn’t want to start her life elsewhere.

Rory understood what she wanted.

Rory asked Mrs. Delport to stay in this home for as long as she pleases. Mrs. Delport looked at Rory as if Rory just saved her life.

"I didn’t even realize this is what I wanted to hear. I would have asked you if I knew what I wanted," Mrs. Delport hugged Rory with tears in her eyes.

"It’s fine. I’m glad we talked through this," Rory patted her back.

Grief sometimes tends to turn the smart into blithering fools. She knew because she has that experience with grief.

With that settled, they came back to LA and waited for the judgment. Liam had dealt with everything regarding his company, and they planned on leaving after the judgment.

What they didn’t know was that Lennon was planning something sinister.

Jason Brooks sneaked out of Lennon’s cell. He stopped the looping software he installed in the security system. He didn’t want the other jailors to find out that he was talking to William Caroll.

His phone rang and he answered it.

"Has it all been prepared?" Jason asked. "He said he will show me tonight where he hid the bones of the two women."

The voice on the other side was very low.

"Yes, it is in the dead center of the city. He says it’s in the sewers and that he will show it to me alone."

"..."

"Yes, I understand it is very close to the residence of the Roberts," Jason said. "But I need to get him out."

"..."

"Yes, thank you," Jason smiled and ended the call.

In the evening, during the shift change, Jason opened the door to Lennon’s solitary cell. He cuffed Lennon’s hands behind him. "It’s for my own safety, Caroll," Jason said.

Lennon smiled charmingly as if he understood him. They passed the first level and then Jason brought Lennon to the pantry. The kitchen next to the pantry was buzzing with activity as dinner was getting prepared.

"Wait here," Jason pushed Lennon into the freezer. He didn’t mind Lennon’s blank stare. "I’ll open the loading bay," he whispered and locked the freezer.

He smirked looking at the closed freezer. He pulled out his phone and called the last dialed number.

"He’s in."

After that, he walked to the loading bay and unlocked it. Then as if nothing had happened, he left the pantry and stood guard by the kitchen.

An hour later, a figure wearing a long trench coat walked into the pantry followed by a large guy holding his umbrella.

"Fucking rain," he mumbled and removed his coat.

The large guy got the wet coat and hung it on one of the handles of the cabinets. "I’ll check on him," the large guy said and walked into the freezer.

He smirked seeing Lennon curled up in the corner. Little specks of ice had formed on the tips of his lashes. "Were you crying, poor boy?" the large guy said. He then punched his face.

"He’s ready,’ the large guy said and took a step back.

The man dressed to the nines, shivered entering the freezer. "I f*cking hate this city. I can see why the doctor hates to be here," he mumbled and walked to Lennon lying on the floor.

His nose was bleeding, and his lips were split. The well-dressed guy pulled out a syringe from his pocket. He then knelt in front of Lennon.

"To what do I owe the honor of meeting the Gordon Faraday in person?" Lennon asked.

Gordon scoffed and made sure there were no air bubbles trapped in the needle. "Did you really think you can get away with hurting Agnes?" he asked.

Lennon’s smile went away and his face went plain. "It was you," he said. He realized everything that went wrong must have been under the influence of the Erling family. "It was you!" he shouted. "Why? Why?" Lennon shouted. "I never did anything against the Erling family!"

Gordon smirked. "I would love to tell you why. But it takes the fun out of it, don’t you think?" he smirked.

He then stuck the needle in Lennon’s throat and injected him with the unknown colorless liquid. "You shouldn’t have poisoned Agnes," he whispered in his ear as Lennon’s eyes rolled back.

-----

That night, Liam and Rory went to the nearest grocery store to buy some necessities for baby Ellie and for the travel back. The paparazzi had lost interest in them and have found interest in another homicide case that happened in the city. So they were left alone.

Rory received a call from Gordon. After informing him of her grandmother’s death, she hadn’t had any contact with Gordon. Rory was surprised he called her.
