The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 228: The Move
Rory was shocked and she raised her arm to block her aunt’s hit. But before that, Liam pulled her back. Rory stumbled a couple of steps. Before she had a firm footing, she saw Liam slapping Aunt Theresa hard on her cheek.
Theresa’s face went red, and she almost fell to the ground unable to bear the strength of Liam’s hit. Liam with a grunt rolled his shoulders. "Ha! It’s been a while!" he mumbled and took a step forward making Theresa stumble backward.
Even Rory was shocked to see Liam hitting someone this hard.
"What’s with you people?" Liam scoffed. "Does my wife have a sign on her forehead saying that she is open for anyone to do anything to her?" Gritting his teeth, Liam stepped forward. "I can’t see it, though...You saw it. Now look at her again and see if you can see it still. I have to correct your vision," he rolled up his sleeves.
Theresa stumbled backward. "What did you~"
"Do you see it or not?" Liam shouted.
"No... no... she does not have any sign on her forehead," Theresa in the end decided to answer Liam’s question the way he wanted to.
"Go! Get lost! If I ever see you near our house, I’ll..." Liam gritted his teeth and showed his fisted hand in front of her face.
Theresa stumbled up and ran down the grassy hill as if a rabid dog was chasing her. Rory covered her face and started laughing. She didn’t think Liam would actually hit her aunt.
"Don’t laugh!" Liam flicked her forehead. "Because you are smiling at everyone, they think that you are a nincompoop, and think that they can kick you around like a ball." He was very mad.
"Because I smile?" Rory asked. She still couldn’t stop laughing. "That’s victim-blaming."
"What are you laughing at?" Theresa shouted from down the hill after getting a safe distance from Liam.
"You’re still here!" Liam pretended to take a step forward and Theresa started running away.
Rory kept on laughing. She was not scared of Liam no matter how much he glared at her.
"You really are a psycho!" Theresa shouted again.
Liam gritted his teeth. "She’s such a..." he mumbled. "I am!" he shouted for Theresa to hear. Theresa started to run again. "Now get lost before I change my mind! I still haven’t bought meat for dinner tonight!" he shouted.
Theresa huffed in anger and disappeared into the distance.
Rory crouched on the ground holding her abdomen as she couldn’t control her laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" Liam pushed her to the grass.
Rory fell on her butt. She didn’t mind that and rolled on the grass. "You are like the grumpy old man who shouts, ’Get off my lawn!!’ whenever a child gets near his house..." she laughed.
"Shut up!" Liam laid on top of her without resting his weight on her and kissed her lips. "You are stupid. I am not going to let you be kind to those who are not kind to you. Remember that." He deepened the kiss.
He cannot watch her getting humiliated. Nothing angers him more than watching her getting mistreated. No one has the right to hurt her.
"Can’t we at least get inside the house before you know..." she asked when the let go of her lips to take a breath.
"Why? This is our property, and you are my wife. Why should I care for others?" he asked.
"Ah, neanderthal!" she pushed him away. "This is a conservative town and kids wander around freely. It’s not appropriate," she stood up.
"Come on!" she gave her hand to him to help him up. But he pouted and slapped her hand away.
"Come on, Fizzy baby..." she cooed him as she would do with her baby. "Get up, baby! Don’t be mad..."
"No!" he slapped her hand away. Rolling to his back, he closed his eyes. "Ah... this is so comfortable!"
After cajoling him for some time, he gave up and got to the house.
"Let’s stay here for the night. Maybe we can cook dinner together. What do you say?" Liam asked.
"Today itself?" Rory raised her brows.
"Yes," Liam pulled her into a hug and nibbled on her earlobe. "That bed is creaking a lot and the countess was looking at us funnily at breakfast. I think she knows..." he whispered.
"Knows what?" Rory chuckled. "That a married couple made love?"
What happened to the guy who didn’t care who watched them?
"Cherry..." he sniffed her neck. "Ah, you smell so good... Let’s stay in our house from here on after..."
Rory closed her eyes and rubbed his hand that was on her abdomen. She loved his scent. The place was warm, and she too thought that it would be better if they stay there. They cannot impose on Uncle Charles’ hospitality for too long.
"What about the castle?" she asked.
Liam let out a sigh and turned her to face him. Sitting on the counter, he pulled her between his legs. He cupped her cheeks.
"We cannot afford to stay there for now," he said.
Rory nodded. They have savings and investments but not a proper stream of income. They cannot spend as they wish with their savings. It won’t be wise.
"But the money is deducted from my grandpa’s estate as you said," she asked. Whether they lived there or not, that money will be paid for.
"But I want to pay for it when I live there," he said.
"Okay,’ Rory nodded. So, it is about his pride or whatever. She didn’t mind. "Then we can live here until you start making enough," she said.
Liam hugged her. "You’re easy," he said. It’s easy to live with her. He was happy to be with her.
"Easy?" Rory was about to get offended by what he said.
No one likes to be called "easy". Certainly not by their husband. It would mean that she is stupid, and he can do whatever he wants with her.
But then she felt the tenderness in his hug. His happiness was apparent with the gentle swaying and his relaxed breathing. He must have meant that she is easy because she is not making a big issue out of anything and understands his point of view.
And to be precise, she does not have many more aspirations nowadays than being happy. So, maybe she is easy. She does not want to look for trouble with her husband. She knows how much he loves her and their baby. So, she does not have to doubt his decisions. She knew he made those decisions with careful consideration.
Why would she worry about anything and ruin her happiness?
She can stay here. She wanted to stay here for a long time and so she truly didn’t mind. Ellie had a lot of time before having to go to school and even then, she can go to the same school she went to. And even if Liam goes out of station due to his business, she would be feeling safe staying alone here.
So, she had no reason to find fault here. Whatever!
They went back to the Campbell mansion to pick up Ellie. They talked about their plans of staying in her house.
"You are youngsters. Of course, you’d be more comfortable in your own house," Aunt Isabelle said with a slight smirk. "But you cannot leave before dinner. And leave Ellie with us, maybe for tonight alone..." she winked.
Rory bowed her head and let Liam deal with her. Isn’t he the "brave" one?
Liam handled the rest of the conversation with Aunt Isabelle with an awkward smile. After that, carrying Ellie, they went to the cemetery with flowers.
They’d been to the cemetery only once before and it was their first time with Ellie. They sat by the grave for some time. Her parents were buried in a single grave. Ellie played around and Rory knelt in front of the grave.
Without knowing her eyes filled with tears.
We got the ones who hurt you get punished. I wish you were here, mom and dad... I miss you... I wish you could see how beautiful Ellie is...
We’ve decided to stay in our house...
She told them everything she wanted to say.
Liam hugged her.
I’ll look after her, I promise...
He vowed again. He promised the same when they visited in the past, but he was not good at keeping his promise. But nothing is lost yet. He will try hard and keep the promise forever.
After staying there for some time, they returned to the Campbell mansion. On the way, they turned on the lights and heater in their house. Liam was insistent on moving there for the night.
After having dinner in the Campbell mansion, they went to their home. Rory was carrying Ellie because Ellie stuck to her that night. As she was about to enter, Liam carried her.
"Whoa!" Rory was surprised.
"I’m carrying my bride through the threshold," he said.
"Don’t you dare drop me! I have Ellie too!" she warned him. "You don’t have to do it..."
"I have to!" he kissed her cheek. "Cherry, I hope we would be happy as a family... Just as you were happy growing up here..." he said and stepped inside the house.
