The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 212: Liam’s Idea
Two more days passed, and Rory was surprised when her therapist told her that she was looking good. That was an odd compliment from the therapist.
Maybe she truly is feeling good.
Liam was busy the past two days. He brought Ellie everywhere and she read some tabloids "reporting" that they’ve split up. For some reason, Rory was considered a celebrity. She had to lock all her social media accounts. She thought that this "fifteen minutes of craze" will pass over and no one will be interested in her after a month or so.
And so had passed more than four months. And people are still interested in her. Maybe after Lennon’s trial and execution, the interest in her will die down. She hoped that were the case.
She liked the long walks in the village. She met the people she once knew and who were part of her family. They all welcomed her back with great enthusiasm. And they each had their own naughty stories of her to tell.
She didn’t know she was such a menace back then. She went around apologizing for every broken pot and other stuff she found "funny" back in those days. And that was liberating. All of them found it unnecessary for her to apologize. ’You were a kid!’ That’s what most of them said.
Lovely people!
As she was going on one of her morning walks, she received a call. She couldn’t believe that person still had the nerve to call her. She didn’t answer her call. But she answered the call after that person called the twelfth time.
"Sidney, don’t call me. Please talk to my lawyers," she said and ended the call.
Sidney hasn’t answered the deal she made. She still wants to make money out of the trauma they both faced. How irksome!
Sidney called again.
Rory let out a sigh and answered the call. Sidney was almost shouting from the other end. "Rory, please don’t end the call... Please, listen to me. I have to... Rory, I might be in danger. I think I’m being followed by~"
"Sidney, talk to a cop. I can’t do anything," Rory spoke calmly and ended the call. Seriously, she is not even in the same country. What can she do to protect Sidney even if she wants to protect her?
Sidney was not taking her advice. She called again. By now, Rory was pissed off.
"Oh! Sod off, slimy moneygrubber!"
Rory answered the call with a swear. She had lost her patience. And there came Sidney’s true voice.
"Moneygrubber? I am the moneygrubber? You are the one who wants all the money for yourself. I saw the news today. So, you two are really separated? You even left your child and ran away? I knew you were a b*tch..."
Sidney went on. Rory muted her and placed the phone in her pocket without ending the call only after checking the call was getting recorded. She didn’t have to answer Sidney’s delusions.
After a while, she heard the phone ring, and again, it was Sidney. Rory did the same. She muted her and placed her phone in her pocket while she went about her way.
These types of tortures may affect men, but she is a woman. She is not going to be fazed by this. After a while, Sidney got tired and stopped calling. Rory sent all the recorded calls to her lawyers. They should be the ones dealing with Sidney’s hysteria. They are expensive and Rory pitied the interns who would be listening to those calls.
She returned to the Campbell mansion for teatime. Isabelle would expect her for morning tea. After tea, Rory talked to Isabelle about the people she met that day.
"You should go check your house, Rory," Isabelle said.
"My parents’ home?" Rory raised her brows. "Maybe I should..."
She was taking long walks around the village, but she couldn’t gather the courage to visit her parent’s house.
"Parents’ house? I don’t know why you still mention it as their place. Dear, it’s been your house for more than a decade," Isabelle said.
Rory was surprised. Well, Aunt Isabelle is not wrong, but... She never thought of that house as hers. She couldn’t accept it as hers. Turns out, she had many unresolved conflicts in her heart that she never realized.
Ah... there’s some thinking I have to do about that, right?
Isabelle held Rory’s hand. She had an assuring smile. "I don’t know what bothers you, but I as a mother can assure you something... Your parents had a clear will. They left everything to you. I understand them. No one wants to leave their children early, but nothing is in our hands. And in case we do, we all want our children to live happily with what we leave them, you know. That’s why we save a lot... for our kids..."
Rory nodded. Maybe she was feeling guilty to take that house because she thought that she got it undeservedly. They should be still living in that house happily, but they didn’t get to live a happy life. But Aunt Isabelle is right. She doesn’t have to feel guilty. Her parents left that for her happily, with their whole hearts.
"I’ll take a look this evening," Rory said with a smile. "My house... that does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?"
Isabelle smiled with a nod. She was happy to see Rory happy.
"Your uncle wanted to tell you that the meeting with that slimy fox is next week," Isabelle said.
Rory nodded. "Slimy fox" has a nice ring to it too. John McCullen surely is slimy. Her lawyers told her that he had used his "influence" to learn more details of Lennon’s case and Rory’s involvement in it. He even voiced his "concerns" that Rory’s refusal to testify in court might appear that she is hiding something. He also questioned how Liam could be all innocent in everything.
Honestly, Rory didn’t know why that guy is still not keeping quiet and doing his job. He is an MP and he should have responsibilities to his constituents, right? And rather than working for the people who voted for him, he is running around trying to protect his criminal son.
She talked to Liam about it. He said that McCullen must want her out of the country as she always will be a liability. That’s why he is trying to discredit her. He said politicians usually would love to throw dirt on others rather than keep themselves clean. They just want their opponent dirtier than them. That way they would be cleaner, relatively.
That guy really wants her gone from here. And that only made Rory wish to stay here longer. But she missed Ellie. And she wanted to hold Liam too.
That evening, she walked to her house with Liam in the line. She didn’t think she could do it alone. She wanted him to come with her.
"I thought you said it was a small house," Liam said.
"It is, don’t you think?" Rory asked. She still thought that this was a small house. Even the rooms are much smaller than what she is used to. After staying in bigger houses, this cottage looked much smaller to her now.
But when she saw the old furniture, especially her parents’ bed, and the dining table, she got emotional.
"Those little dolls and knickknacks... did the family who rented it leave them?" Liam asked. Those ceramic dolls and other stuff gave it an English cottage feel.
"Oh, no..."Rory picked up the elf on the shelf. "It’s all... It used to be here all the time. My mother didn’t like empty spaces. She used to fill it with stuff, needed or not..."
Liam hummed. He didn’t know that she picked up that trait from her mother. He needs to learn a lot about her.
"They are all so pretty, aren’t they?" she said.
"It’s cozy," Liam was excited. He wanted to be there right then. "Rory, why don’t you choose a paint color and maybe get what you want? A crib, maybe? And a new mattress. That mattress in the master bedroom belonged to your parents, right? " he asked.
"What?" Rory looked at him raising her brows. Does he want to stay here? But for how long?
"Hear me out," he wetted his lips. "I thought about it, you know. Maybe we can settle there..." he shrugged.
"But your business is there!" Rory didn’t know why he decided that way.
"I don’t have to be here all the time. It’s an online business and I have employees. I even can have my headquarters in there... I would be a citizen too now that I am married to you, right? What is the process... I’ll check it out..." Liam rubbed his forehead.
Rory could see that he came up with that plan suddenly, just now. Did he plan on leaving his family behind? And her grandmother...! And what about the employees there?
She wanted him to think more about it. But she knew he won’t take this decision lightly. She decided to leave him to his ways. He can do his research and decide on his own.
She wouldn’t mind either way.
But living here... It won’t be that bad, right?
