Chapter 40: Lazy King

[New Notification!]

[All your base stats have reached above 90. You are now eligible to Awaken your Signet.]

[Note: Since all your main base stats are maxed out, you are guaranteed to Awaken and acquire a new Skill.]

[1000 System Points will be used to initiate your Awakening.]

Seeing the message, Eren maintained his usual lazy expression and prepared himself for the process. But then—

[Warning!]

[An error has occurred during the Awakening process.]

[Analyzing the issue...]

Eren’s eyes narrowed slightly as he read the message, but he quickly shrugged it off. It didn’t seem like a major problem.

[Error detected.]

[Note: The host’s body lacks an anchor. The system has detected an already existing Signet.]

[Confirming the new Signet. Beginning re-Awakening process...]

Eren smirked slightly, a scoff escaping his lips. He had expected something cliché to happen during this process.

Then, a sudden warmth spread through his chest. Instinctively, he placed a hand over his heart, feeling his heartbeat accelerate.

—Thump. Thump. Thump.

[Awakening initiated!]

The warmth in his chest soon expanded, spreading throughout his entire body. Surprisingly, it wasn’t painful or uncomfortable—just a pleasant heat that lasted only a few seconds before fading.

[The process is complete.]

[You have fully Awakened your Signet Blessing.]

[You are now a Level 1 Awakener!]

[A new Skill has been acquired!]

Seeing the confirmation, Eren clenched his hands, testing his strength. However, he didn’t notice any drastic changes—just a slight increase in energy. His body felt lighter, as if he had more stamina than before.

Opening his Status window, he checked his updated stats.

Seeing that all his base stats had reset to zero while his level increased to one, Eren confirmed that he had officially become an Awakener.

His gaze then shifted to the new Skill he had acquired.

----

Lazy King [Passive]:

The world subtly bends to accommodate the user’s laziness. Minor inconveniences resolve themselves, objects shift into easier reach, and others subconsciously adjust to their presence. While not absolute, luck favors the user in avoiding effort where possible.

----

Reading the description, Eren’s eyes turned dull and stoic.

This Skill... felt like it was made specifically for him. A passive ability that helped him be even lazier, using some form of luck-based manipulation.

A slow, wide smile spread across his lips as he covered his mouth.

Well, whoever or whatever was responsible for this, he had no complaints. He would accept this gift with absolute satisfaction.

...

...

Back in the dining hall, Edric turned to his son once again, his expression serious as he sought confirmation.

"Is it true? Did you really awaken your blessing?"

Though he had suspected Eren might have been an Awakener during his fight with the d’Armand knight, he hadn’t been able to confirm it. Until now.

Eren gave a firm nod, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. "I did, Father. I plan to enroll in the Academy, so I need to train before going there."

Edric’s eyebrows lifted slightly in surprise. Of all the things he expected, this wasn’t one of them. His son, who had never shown much interest in the Academy, was now choosing to attend of his own free will. Yet, despite his surprise, a sense of pride swelled in him. Eren was making a decision for himself, and that was something he could respect.

Unfortunately, his wife did not share the same enthusiasm.

Isadora’s expression paled in shock, her hands trembling as she reached for her son’s. "No! Dear, please think this through carefully. You don’t have to force yourself!" she pleaded, her grip tightening.

She was convinced Eren was only pushing himself, trying to prove something after what had happened three days ago at the training ground. She had heard the full story—the duel against the d’Armand daughter, it pained her to think her son was trying to prove his worth because of that incident. Even though Edric had reassured her that Eren was completely fine, she couldn’t help but worry.

Eren resisted the urge to sigh. Isadora had always been overprotective, but this was getting frustrating. Just as he was about to reassure her, his father spoke up instead.

"Dear, let him be. It’s his choice," Edric said calmly.

Isadora turned to him with a sharp frown. "What do you mean? Aren’t you worried about him going out and getting hurt? What if something happens? What if he gets injured?"

Edric let out a slow exhale before answering. "You’re overreacting. Nothing will happen to him. I’ll send elite knights to accompany him for training."

Isadora released Eren’s hand and glared at her husband, clearly displeased. "No. I don’t trust those knights. If you really want to reassure me, then I’ll go with him—"

"Absolutely not!" Edric interrupted firmly. "You have a full schedule in the capital tomorrow, including your meeting with the Queen. Do you think I’d allow you to abandon that?"

As the two fat couples began to argue, Eren sat back, watching the scene unfold with mild amusement.

’Was this the effect of Lazy King?’

Originally, he had planned to put on a pitiful expression and plead with his mother to let him go, but somehow, his father had taken up the fight on his behalf instead.

’This skill is more useful than I thought,’ Eren mused, casually cutting into his steak with a fork and enjoying his meal while the drama played out before him.

After a long argument, Isadora finally calmed down and agreed to let Eren go out for training, but she demanded that her husband, Edric, send the commander with him.

In the end, Edric agreed to her suggestion, despite disliking the idea of sending his commander, Gareth, on a short expedition just for Eren’s training.

"Fine then, I will tell Gareth to prepare the best knights to accompany him. I will also ask Oswald to select some servants to assist Eren in his daily needs."

Hearing this, Isadora smiled, though her eyes still held worry as she looked back at her son.

"Dear, remember to stay away from danger and always be accompanied by knights, okay?"

Hearing his mother’s reminder, Eren nodded lazily. "Okay, Mother. I will definitely do that."

But his mind said the opposite.

’I will definitely ignore that,’ he thought.

---

The next morning, as the sun cast its golden glow over the estate, Eren stood at the entrance of the grand mansion, ready to depart. His parents, servants, and maids were gathered to see him off. Before them, Commander Gareth approached, bowing respectfully before the Marquis and Marquess.

"My lord, the preparations are complete," he reported.

Behind him, a formation of one hundred elite knights stood at attention, handpicked by Gareth himself as per Edric’s orders. Among them was Leon, one of the most skilled knights under Gareth’s command.

Seeing that everything was in place, Edric gave a firm nod, signaling Gareth to proceed. The commander immediately began organizing the departure, instructing knights to mount their horses and servants to secure the luggage and camping supplies.

Meanwhile, Isadora was fussing over her son like an anxious mother.

"I have prepared one hundred sets of clothes for you, in case you get dirty. And an extra hundred, just in case."

Eren’s eyes turned half-dull at the excessive spoiling.

"I also assigned ten maids to assist you with your daily needs, and another ten servants—just in case."

Eren sighed. He was only going to train for a month... or maybe two. He couldn’t help but pity other noble children who didn’t receive this level of attention.

"Also, take this." Isadora retrieved something from her maid and placed it in Eren’s palm. When he opened it, he found a golden ring embedded with a small green gemstone.

"It’s a storage ring. I filled it with snacks in case you get hungry," she said with a smile.

She then took another ring, this one with a small blue gem, and handed it to him. "This one has your favorite juices and drinks."

Eren’s expression turned increasingly dull as Isadora continued, adding two... no, three more rings.

"This one contains healing and recovery potions, in case you get injured."

"This one has defensive magic scrolls for protection. You know how to use them, right?"

"And this one..."

Eren was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of protective items and supplies his mother was showering him with. His father had already arranged for ten thousand food packages, ten thousand healing potions, and ten large crates of medical supplies. He had even hired three doctors and a full healthcare team for the trip.

Wasn’t this overkill? No, it was more like... over-health.

He let out a quiet sigh, but at least he managed to acquire five storage rings. ’They might come in handy,’ he thought.

"Lastly—" Isadora still wasn’t finished.

One of the maids approached with an exquisitely crafted wooden box, its surface engraved with delicate floral patterns. She opened it, revealing a stunning silver necklace. The pendant was shaped like a sacred emblem of the Goddess, encrusted with a brilliant sapphire that shimmered under the morning light. Fine etchings of ancient runes surrounded the central gemstone, signifying a powerful enchantment.

Isadora carefully took the necklace and wrapped it around Eren’s neck.

"This is a magic artifact. It will protect you from danger, so never take it off," she said with a warm yet worried smile.

Eren held the pendant between his fingers, admiring the craftsmanship. However, before he could use Appraisal on it, Isadora suddenly wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace.

"Stay safe. And promise me you will stay away from danger," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion.

Eren blinked in surprise before slowly returning the hug, patting her back lightly.

"I will, Mother. Don’t worry," he replied in his best cheerful tone.

But in reality, his mind was screaming something else.

’I’m going to die from suffocation, woman. Eat some salad and go on a diet or something!’

Hearing his dark thoughts, the system was both shocked and hurt.

[Master... she is your mother.]

’She ain’t my real mother,’ Eren retorted, annoyed.

Useless was about to argue but stopped itself, choosing to avoid further irritating its master.
