Chapter 645: Chapter 558 The Simple Woman

Nan Zhan put down his chopsticks and pulled over a napkin to wipe his mouth: "Speak."

Hong Yuan stared at the computer screen in front of him, looked at it for a while, then turned the screen towards him: "This is a new resume I’ve just received for a job application. I think Mr. Nan might want to take a look at it himself. It’s from a lady named Jian Si."

Upon hearing the name Jian Si, Nan Zhan slightly furrowed his brows as his gaze inadvertently fell on the screen.

What he saw was indeed her resume. It was brief and the wording concise, but it was undeniable that her experience was too ordinary, and her educational background fell far below the standards required by the law firm.

Even the receptionists at the law firm were more outstanding than her.

"Give her a call," Nan Zhan said as he got up from the dining table, "on behalf of the law firm."

Having worked with him for so long, Hong Yuan naturally understood what he meant and smiled knowingly: "Understood, Mr. Nan."

Jian Si received a call for an interview from a law firm called "NZ", and the caller warmly invited her to an interview on Saturday.

Jian Si was unfamiliar with the affairs of law firms. After hanging up, she searched online for this "NZ" law firm and immediately felt like she’d been struck by a pie from heaven. This firm was one of the top in Aus City, with a renowned reputation.

However, Baidu Wikipedia only introduced one of the firm’s partners, the well-known lawyer Lan Jin from Aus City.

Jian Si took the interview very seriously, getting up early to dress up. There was a white dress in her wardrobe, her newest dress, which she last wore last year.

It wasn’t until she put it on that Jian Si realized it had been a whole year since she had last bought new clothes.

Upon arriving at the law firm, there were already several applicants who had arrived earlier. Visually, they were not as striking as Jian Si, but a quick glimpse at their resumes on their hands made her feel inferior.

She even felt that there must be some mistake. How could she possibly compete with these people with her qualifications?

Soon it was Jian Si’s turn. She entered the conference room somewhat nervously and saw several interviewers seated at the main table, managing to calm herself down.

The interviewer flipped through the resume in front of him. The qualifications were too mediocre, utterly unremarkable. He didn’t understand why she had been invited for an interview, but more importantly, he also had to offer her the position.

"Miss Jian, have you studied law before?"

Jian Si shook her head, truthfully answering: "No."

The interviewer looked at her again: delicate features, fair skin, slender eyebrows and eyes, a classic beauty easy to remember, but this wasn’t a beauty pageant.

Since she hadn’t studied law, the interviewer had already abandoned asking her about legal issues and merely closed the resume that was in front of him.

"Miss Jian, do you have any special skills that might make you suitable for the work at our law firm?"

Jian Si said, "I can remember the faces of all the fugitives I have seen online."

The interviewer could not hide his astonishment; there were tens of thousands of fugitives online, and she claimed she could remember all their faces, which anyone would find incredible.

The interviewer’s first instinct was that she was lying.

Although instructions had been given to hire her unconditionally, the interviewer still opened the online fugitive list and arbitrarily selected a criminal, then mixed his photo with a few other ordinary people’s photos.

The interviewer turned the computer towards Jian Si, "Among these ten people, which one is the fugitive?"

Jian Si looked carefully and pointed at a man with a crew cut: "This one."

The interviewer was somewhat shocked, and his two colleagues also found it unbelievable, but they thought she might have guessed correctly by luck.

The skeptical interviewer then selected several more fugitive photos and similar ordinary people’s photos for Jian Si to identify, and to their surprise, she got them all correct.

Afterwards, he hired Jian Si without hesitation, although he was not sure how this special skill would be of help to their law firm.

Even after being hired, Jian Si felt like she was dreaming. Since childhood, her father always used to tell her, it’s not about quantity but quality; having one special skill will secure a place for you in the future.

When Jian Si excitedly told Zhengzheng that she was going to work at a law firm, Zhengzheng did not show any surprise, but patted her hand, advising like an elder: "Seize the opportunity, work hard."

"Of course, this job was not easy to get, and the salary is not small either," Jian Si said, her spirits high, which left Zhengzheng a bit helpless.

Zhengzheng felt she must be simplistic, clearly her father had orchestrated it. Otherwise, how could she possibly get a job at such a prestigious firm with her qualifications? Did she really think her modest skill could make a significant difference?

Ah, the innocence of women.

Nan Zhan was watching a law-related program when a very soft knock came from outside. He put down the cup in his hand and walked over to open the door, seeing the small figure standing there, he moved aside slightly: "Come in."

He wasn’t at all surprised that Zhengzheng knew where he lived; probably the only one who didn’t know was that foolish woman.

The father and son entered the living room one after the other, a silent agreement between them.

"Where is she?" Nan Zhan resumed his seat.

"She said she needed to go to bed early to energize and prepare for her new job." Zhengzheng sighed, "Are you sure she can handle it?"

"That’s not the point," Nan Zhan took his cup.

"So what is the purpose, to make her earn enough to support me?"

Indeed, what was the purpose? Even Nan Zhan himself couldn’t clearly say. He should have fought that woman for the custody of Zhengzheng, a victory almost guaranteed if he took action, but strangely, he was arranging a job for her.

He thought he must be possessed by some complex organism.

Zhengzheng played in his room for a while, had an ice cream, and nibbled on a king crab leg before leaving.

All these things were prepared by Hong Yuan at Nan Zhan’s behest, just so the little guy had something to gaze upon during his visit. Surprised, Jian Si asked, "It’s so late, where did you go?"

Zhengzheng said calmly, "I heard some noises outside, just went to check."

"Don’t rush out like that next time, what if it’s a bad person?" Jian Si dragged him into the room, "It’s so late and you still aren’t asleep, hey, what’s that on your mouth?"

Zhengzheng quickly wiped his mouth, probably from the crab leg he just had, "I was hungry, went to eat some bread in the kitchen."

"Still hungry? I’ll go cook some dumplings for you."

"No need, I’m full, I’m going to bed."

Due to the small size of the house, they shared a bedroom; Jian Si bought him a single bed placed on the sunny side. Between their beds was a desk, one side for Jian Si, the other for Zhengzheng.

As he lay down, Zhengzheng muttered to himself, "Ah, such a simple woman. Just casually eating, he loves seafood, so he filled the fridge with all sorts of seafood, and even, he emptied out a room specifically for his favorite Transformers. Whenever he sees a good one, he buys it, or asks Hong Yuan to order limited edition ones."

Jian Si tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. She had intended to be fully energized to face the first day of work, but the excitement made her somewhat insomniac.

She came out to pour a glass of water and just then saw Zhengzheng entering the door, one big, one small."

On her first day at work, Jian Si arrived early, the law firm had just opened.

The security guard was surprised to see her: "You’re early."

"Early," Jian Si gave him a quick smile.

"You can call me Xiao Wu, I’ve been working at this law firm for three years now, it’s your first day at work, right?" Xiao Wu was very enthusiastic, especially towards beautiful women.

"Which department are you in?" Xiao Wu continued to ask.

Jian Si shook her head, she wasn’t really sure. The interviewer only told her she was officially hired but didn’t specify her position. She figured with her qualifications, she’d probably be doing miscellaneous tasks, maybe managing logistics.

"President Zhang is here." The security guard suddenly greeted warmly towards the entrance, "Morning, President Zhang."

Zhang Qin nodded her head, her gaze shifting towards Jian Si.

Xiao Wu said quickly, "This is President Zhang from the HR department."

Jian Si extended her hand, "Good morning, President Zhang."

However, Zhang Qin looked at her lightly and just nodded, "So you are Jian Si?"

"Yes." Jian Si could only awkwardly retract her hand.

"You will be working in Dylan’s office; he will arrange the specifics," Zhang Qin said before walking away with graceful steps.

Jian Si was somewhat perplexed and had to ask Xiao Wu, "Who is Dylan?"

Xiao Wu’s eyes widened, "Dylan, the attorney? He’s the gold-medal lawyer of our law firm and also one of the partners. You’re very lucky to be working in Dylan’s office; many people would break their heads to get in there."

Jian Si didn’t know this Dylan, but the reverence with which Xiao Wu regarded him suggested he was a significant figure, and as a partner, he was essentially the owner of the law firm, her ultimate boss.

Feeling somewhat anxious about directly serving her big boss, Jian Si asked Xiao Wu for the location of Dylan’s room and directly headed to the second floor.

In Jian Si’s eyes, as a newcomer, you should work more and talk less, so the moment she entered the office, she began cleaning, scrubbing everything from the windows to the floors, inside and out.

When Nan Zhan entered, Jian Si was busy at the desk, back towards him, scrubbing meticulously, not missing a single crevice.
