Chapter 620: Chapter 538 Eyewitness

Jian Si looked up and saw Nan Zhan leaning on the doorframe, holding a freshly brewed cup of coffee, with the trademark sarcastic smile of the Nan family on his lips.

"Criminal Law Article 236: committing violence, sentences ranging from three to ten years in prison. As a lawyer, I would not break the law knowingly, and..." Jian Si felt his gaze on her was particularly mocking at that moment, "I’ve said before, Miss Jian, I’m not interested in your flat figure."

Jian Si grabbed a pillow beside her and threw it at the man, though just a second ago she was grateful to him, now she just wanted to knock him senseless with the pillow.

Nan Zhan caught the pillow with one hand while holding his coffee in the other, and seeing Jian Si sitting on the bed looking like an infuriated little peacock, he smiled triumphantly.

It turned out to be so fun to tease her.

"Get up quickly, don’t you want to go pick up Zhengzheng?"

Jian Si puffed up her cheeks in anger, but remembering that Zhengzheng was still at Jian Hedong’s place, she quickly got up and tidied herself up a bit.

Just as Jian Si arrived at Jian Hedong’s house gate, she heard Jian Hedong’s voice without even entering: "Where were you last night? Coming back in the middle of the night?"

"Dad, I’ve told you, I was just out eating and singing with friends," Jian Chuan’s voice carried a hint of helplessness, "keep your voice down, don’t startle Zhengzheng."

"Zhengzheng is not as timid as you think, and as his older brother, shouldn’t you be setting a good example? Don’t think I don’t know, you must have been out with a woman. I picked up your clothes this morning to wash and smelled perfume. Tell me, was it that girl called Piaopiao? I’m telling you, she’s not a decent woman, I forbid Sisi from hanging out with her, don’t you disobey too?"

Jian Si, upon hearing her name mentioned, sighed silently. She knew that Jian Hedong never liked Feng Piaopiao; how could such a conservative old man fancy someone like Feng Piaopiao who changes boyfriends as often as clothes? He had advised her more than once to cut ties with this friend.

"Uncle Jian." Jian Si pushed open the door, pretending she hadn’t heard the argument between father and son.

"Sisi, you came just at the right time. Tell my dad, were we not together last night?" Jian Chuan seemed to see a savior and quickly winked at her.

Jian Si said, "Yes, last night I went out to eat and sing with Big Brother. Uncle, don’t worry."

"Really?" Jian Hedong was still suspicious but then immediately denied, "Impossible, you never wear perfume. That must have been someone else’s scent; you two are teaming up to lie to me."

"It belonged to a friend of mine." Nan Zhan stood at the door, nodding to Jian Hedong.

Jian Hedong, not expecting Nan Zhan’s arrival, was stunned for a moment before hurrying to say, "Lawyer Nan, what a rare guest, please come in."

Nan Zhan entered, politely saying, "Sorry for the intrusion."

Jian Si saw his courteous demeanor and couldn’t help snorting internally; he had been so sharp-tongued towards her in the morning but now put on a righteous face.

"Lawyer Nan, if you don’t mind, please stay for a simple meal," Jian Hedong offered warmly, dropping the issue with Jian Chuan.

"Sure." Nan Zhan agreed readily.

"I really owe you for the house matter; Li Ronghua called me yesterday asking not to take this matter to court and wanted to settle it privately. But rest assured, I will not believe her lies."

Jian Hedong then excused himself to prepare lunch in the kitchen.

Sitting under the lofty apricot tree, Nan Zhan looked up at the bright yellow apricots when suddenly, a small figure like a little monkey clambered up the tree pole and soon sat on a branch, picking a few apricots and shouting at Nan Zhan, "Big brother, catch!"

Nan Zhan stretched out his hand, and a few apricots fell, which he quickly caught.

Zhengzheng, sitting there, smiled at him: "The apricots from my uncle’s house are really tasty, you should try them."

Nan Zhan thanked him and after rinsing them with water from a small table, he took a bite. The apricot flesh was thick and soft without any sourness, indeed very delicious.

"Tasty, isn’t it?" Zhengzheng asked happily.

"Not bad." Nan Zhan smiled back at him, while instructing, "Be careful."

"Don’t worry, I’ve been climbing this tree for years, I won’t fall." Zhengzheng said and quickly climbed down skipping to Nan Zhan’s side and sitting down on a small stool, "By the way, Uncle Jian still doesn’t know about the body found at our house, don’t tell him, to avoid worry."
