The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship-Chapter 611 - 529 Kudo Shinyichi_2
Nan Zhan watched her skilled movements as she worked, the warm sunlight enveloping her body, seeming to brush a layer of gold dust onto her lowered eyelashes, making her already fair skin dazzle even more brightly.
Suddenly, a slender hand appeared in front of her, and then a peach was snatched away by him. He imitated her actions and began to peel the peach, then after peeling, he took out the almond inside and curiously asked her, "Can this be eaten?"
"Yes, it’s very fragrant. I’ll go smash them open with a hammer later, and we can make Almond Milk with the soy milk maker."
"You can make Almond Milk with just these few?"
"A small cup is enough for Zhengzheng to drink." Jian Si did not notice the man’s face suddenly turning cold.
As if he was in a mood, he threw the peach he had just peeled back and left with a huff, saying "boring" as he swaggered away.
He thought she wanted to make Almond Milk for him, so he had been unexpectedly expectant, and as for new things, the great lawyer Nan was always full of curiosity.
Jian Si was already used to the man’s sudden emotional coldness and didn’t pay attention to him, continuing to peel peaches.
During breakfast, Zhengzheng was drinking the freshly made Almond Milk, "Sis, it’s really tasty."
No sooner had he finished his sentence did he feel a cold glance coming his way. He looked up to see Nan Zhan nonchalantly taking a bite of his fried egg while complaining discontentedly, "It’s too salty!"
Jian Si tried her own fried egg with some confusion; it was moderately seasoned, not at all as salty as he claimed. Perhaps it was his taste buds that still hadn’t awakened.
"Zhengzheng, I’m off to Xinghai Square, do you want to come with me, or stay home and read?" Jian Si was cleaning up the dishes.
"Read." The books in Nan Zhan’s bookcase were too tempting for him, he wished there were eight more hours in a day so he could finish half of them before leaving.
"Okay, I’ll prepare something for you to eat and leave it in the fridge. Just heat it up in the microwave and remember to cut the power after you use it."
"Got it."
"If it looks like rain, bring in my dried apricots. I’ve left them to dry on the balcony outside."
Zhengzheng immediately nodded, "Got it, you can go without worry."
After everything was arranged, Jian Si prepared to leave with her drawing board on her back. As she was changing her shoes, someone from the neighboring shoe cabinet picked up a pair of men’s casual leather shoes.
Compared to the old building she lived in, the elevator here made her commute much easier. However, thinking of the female corpse found at the top of the elevator yesterday made her feel as if the air in the confined space had frozen solid. No matter where she looked, it seemed like a pair of eyes were staring at her from the top of the elevator.
Finding three bodies within the same community, all with signs of brutal torture, with one even in her own home, Jian Si felt like she had bad luck like no other.
Thinking about how she had been in such close contact with the murderer, an involuntary chill crept into her heart.
"How many paintings can you do for people in a day?" The sudden voice beside her startled the daydreaming Jian Si, turning her face somewhat pale as she looked at him, "Why did you speak out of the blue?"
Nan Zhan sneered, "Speaking is my right."
"Didn’t you say speaking was expensive? I can’t afford to pay you."
"From now on, I’ll let you talk to me free of charge," Nan Zhan slightly lifted his chin, as if to say, act grateful, earthling.
Jian Si, who had been somewhat fearful just moments ago, now couldn’t help but laugh at his serious demeanor, "Thank you, boss."
"You haven’t answered my question yet." He looked again at her drawing board on her back, thick and heavy, almost half her height, pressing on her frail figure so much so it made one gasp, fearing she would suddenly collapse.
"Sometimes, not even one." Jian Si spoke the truth.
Although Xinghai Square was teeming with countless sightseers and leisure-takers every day, not many actually sat down to have their portrait drawn, and most were children. She wasn’t good at soliciting business, so her sales were poor, and she often sat idle all day without making any gains.
"Don’t you think it’s a waste of time?" Clearly, to the great lawyer Nan, trading an entire day for such zero income was an unprofitable deal.
Jian Si lowered her head and kept silent, evidently not wanting to answer his question.
Nan Zhan didn’t press further, but the look in his eyes conveyed his mockery; he must be laughing at her foolishness.
"Get in the car, I happen to be heading that way," Nan Zhan said, rolling down his window and speaking to Jian Si who was about to take a bus, "I’ll give you a lift for free."
Was he afraid that she’d find it too expensive to ride with him? She wasn’t that delicate. Why wouldn’t she take a free ride when offered, especially since the drawing board was incredibly heavy?
Although Nan Zhan said he would drop her off on the way, he deliberately drove straight to the statue where she usually set up her stall. The flashy Rolls-Royce Phantom parked there immediately drew countless amazed gazes.
"Is this where you usually paint?"
"Yeah, this is it." Jian Si set up her easel.
"And then you sit in front of the easel like an idiot, and that’s how you start doing business?" Nan Zhan frowned, "Miss Jian, please have some business sense, okay? Even a slightly smart person would know you are doing portrait sketches. Those who don’t know might think you are from some art academy here to do field sketches."
Jian Si had painted here for so long yet had never felt this way before; she always thought the spot she picked was quite obvious.
"To draw portraits for people, you should at least display some samples. It’s only by showing likable works that you can attract people to do business with you," he continued.
"Samples?" A spark of insight flashed in Jian Si’s mind, deeming his advice sensible. She gave him an evaluating glance and said with a smile, "Mr. Nan, why don’t you model for me? I’ll draw a sample."
