Chapter 401: Neighbor

Elsa’s first day in the hospital was light and fun. Jai introduced her to the other staff and also handed over some patients for consultations.

However, her eyes kept on looking at the clock. She had agreed to meet with Chris at six p.m. and they would go together to her house. Even though she had spoken to a lot of people the whole day, Chris did not leave her mind.

She couldn’t brush off his words and kept on thinking what if he was not joking at all?

Earlier...

"Besides, who would want to date a single mom like me with three kids, right? Any man would run away the moment they find that out about me."

"I would... I won’t run away... I will surely date you if given a chance..."

Elsa chuckled and shook her head, "Fine, you win, I believe you. Perhaps there are still men who don’t care if the woman has kids or not."

"Yes, there are. Especially when they love that woman," Chris uttered, glancing at her.

"So, if you believe in love then why are you single?"

"Aha! So you were curious about me huh?" Chris jested.

"Of course not! You are the new chairman so it’s natural for people to talk about you. I heard it from the staff while I was checking my VIP patient," Elsa explained while laughing.

Elsa’s reminiscing was interrupted by a knock on the door, prompting her to glance at the clock. "Shoot! It’s time."

"Come in!" she called out.

"I saw your driver leave earlier. Will he pick you up, or should I drive you home?" Jai asked.

Elsa felt a twinge of disappointment that it was Jai at the door and not Chris. She had been sort of expecting Chris, but then thought, ’Wait a minute... Why am I expecting him when we agreed to meet in the basement parking?’

"No need, but thanks," she replied. "I sent my driver home since he needs to help my housekeeper with some grocery shopping."

"Your food is already gone? I thought you said over the phone tas were in the grocery last Saturday?" Jai asked.

"I was, but I have a visitor today so I asked my housekeeper to buy some ingredients. So, if you’ll excuse me I will leave first," Elsa said, picking up her bag and other things.

Jai stepped aside and let Elsa walk away. But when she turned left toward the elevator, he decided to follow her. He saw that the elevator stopped at the basement parking, so he went there.

As soon as he arrived, he saw Elsa go in a Volvo XC90, it was too late to call after her. He immediately dialed Chris’ secretary’s number on his phone.

"Hi, this is Dr. Chaudhary, the chief of the surgery department. I forgot to give something to the Chairman. I am in the parking lot now, I’ll just wait by his car, do you know his plate number?" Jai asked Chris’ secretary.

"I’m sorry doctor, I don’t know his plate number but his car is a Volvo XC90 and he just left a few minutes ago maybe he is already there," the secretary said before the call ended.

"What the hell? Why are they together? Is he the visitor that she was talking about?" he muttered. He immediately went to his car. ’I knew it. Something was off earlier. He is trying to take her from me,’ he thought.

—-------

Elsa and Chris arrived at Elsa’s home in no time. His lips curved into a smile after seeing how big and beautiful her house was.

’It’s good that they live in a nice house, even though they won’t grow up in Blackhart Castle, it’s still perfect,’ Chris said inwardly.

"What the?" Elsa suddenly uttered, startling Chris.

He followed Elsa’s line of sight and saw Marina just outside the front door as they drove into the driveway.

"Is that your sister?" Chris asked, pretending he didn’t know Marina.

"Oh, you haven’t met her? She’s Marina, your top investor... You can stop here, I’ll tell my driver to park your car," Elsa instructed.

She went straight to Marina as soon as Chris stopped the car. "You! I did not discharge you yesterday just so you can go here. Playing with the kids could reopen your wound!" Elsa scolded.

But Marina was not even looking at her. She was smiling and staring at Chris who was walking behind Elsa.

"Hello, Mr. Jorgensen. I can see that you are getting close to my best friend," Marina teased, causing Elsa to widen her eyes at her.

Chris smirked and stared back at Marina with a meaningful look. "You could say that. I’m glad that you’re okay."

"You know, I won’t die that easily. Come on in, the kids will be happy to see you," Marina invited Chris and then winked at Elsa.

"This is my house you know..." Elsa mentioned to Marina who just laughed it out.

"I know, and you should not be rude to your neighbor."

"Well, it’s because the neighbor invited herself into my house without asking if I have prior plans."

"Oh dear, I am not talking about myself–"

"Neighbor!"

Marina and Elsa’s conversation was interrupted by a man’s voice. Elsa quickly turned to him and frowned. She opened her mouth but was cut off before she could speak.

"Neighbor? What do you mean?" Chris was the first one to ask the man.

"Yes, Christopher. Dr. Morgan is now our neighbor. I just closed the deal with our lovely seller and investor, Marina, this morning. I bought the house beside Dr. Morgan’s and I didn’t expect that she lives next door," Elandir said, flabbergasting both Elsa and Chris.

"You didn’t inform me before signing it," Chris uttered.

"Why should I? I didn’t think you would disapprove, am I wrong?"

But before Chris could answer back they heard the children running towards the living room where they at.

"I knew! I know it is your voice Mr. Chairman!" Rocco exclaimed with so much excitement before giving Chris a hug. The twins did the same.

That sight made Marina’s eyes well up and so was Elandir, until the next scene surprised them.

"Yakobo?" Chris questioned and that made everyone look at the black puppy who was sitting on the first step of the stairs looking directly into Chris’ eyes.
