Chapter 50: Disgusting

Violet grabbed her throat and stumbled back, tripping and sitting down on the floor. She held her neck and coughed incessantly. Tears welled up in her eyes- trail falling down her cheek.

She almost thought she would die back then.

When she focused her vision, she noticed Lucas beating up Mathew. Although Mathew tried to fight back, he stood no chance against Lucas.

A sharp pain then went through Violet’s heart, and a cry of pain left her mouth. Violet grabbed her chest- her face twisting.

Lucas realized her state and rushed back to her. As he supported her up, Mathew took the opportunity to run away from there.

"That bastard," Lucas cursed upon seeing that, but he couldn’t leave Violet alone here.

°°°

Lucas discussed with Lydia and decided it was too dangerous to leave her alone in the hospital now that everyone knew she was here. After discussing with the Lydia’s mentor, they decided Violet was well enough to receive treatment from home.

After exchanging a very depressive goodbye with Anna, Violet got into the car with Lucas and drove towards home.

On the way, Lucas’s eyes fell on her neck multiple times. It was wrapped in a thick layer of bandage, and due to the effect of the damage, Violet’s voice came out hoarse.

"That motherfucker, I swear when I get my hands on him, I am going to rip him into pieces. How can he do this to you? My precious princess, I protected you so well yet he did this to you. How dare he!? Does he think I am here for decoration!?"

Lucas tightly grabbed on to the steering wheel.

Violet cleared her throat and nodded.

"I want to rip him into pieces as well. He is such a jerk," Violet commented.

"There, there, I will protect you well in the future. I will make sure he doesn’t come near you in the future, alright? Don’t be scared," Lucas comforted her.

"Wouldn’t it better if you make me a bomb? Next time when he approaches me, I will throw it at him, and he will blast off," Violet expressed.

Lucas thoughtfully stared at the road. "That’s indeed a good idea. Maybe I should do that."

Small chitchats continued between them until they reached their house. Violet stepped out of the car and entered the house.

She closed her eyes dramatically, taking in the scent of the house when she was approached by the familiar notes of grape wine. Violet’s eyes immediately shot open.

Sylas’s hand reached out to touch her neck. A subtle frown was etched on his face. "What happened here?"

The closing gap between them made Violet nervous, and she looked down at her curled toes.

"Don’t even remind me. That bastard Mathew, I don’t know how, found her and hurt her. If it weren’t for me, she would have been a cold corpse now," Lucas expressed.

"He hurt her?" Sylas enunciated.

Behind his calm tone, Violet could hear the storm brewing. A dark, sinister glint crossed through his eyes, frightening even Violet for a second.

Sylas’s gaze then shifted on her. Noticing her perplexed eyes, his gentle smile masked his emotions.

"Just thinking about it makes me want to barge into the pack and grab him by his throat." Lucas let out a low growl.

°°°

Violet was in her room, playing with her phone, when she heard the knocks on the door.

"It’s open," she responded, thinking that Lucas was here to accompany her.

But when the door opened, she was met with Sylas’s face. That made instantly sit up straight. She noticed the piping hot cup of tea in his hand, and this curved the corner of her lips slightly before she pushed it back.

"Alpha," she enunciated, "you didn’t need to go through the trouble. I am alright now."

"It’s a treat," Sylas said, handing her the cup of tea.

Violet’s hazel eyes glimmered in excitement as she stared down. She blew out air, trying to cool down the tea before taking a sip out of the tea. The refreshing blend of lemon, mint, and fruity flavors swirled in her tastebud.

Violet relished the taste, letting it linger in her mouth.

"Alpha, if you ever open up a tea shop, I will be your most loyal customer. These are delicious. How did you even learn to make them?" Violet expressed.

As Violet took another sip, she saw Sylas being in a daze for a second before he wiped off his emotions and replied, "I appreciate the compliment."

Violet parted her lips, about to say something, but then brushed aside the thought from her head, afraid Sylas would be upset.

°°°

With her legs folded, Violet was seated on the couch. Her brows were furrowed while she concentrated on arranging the flowers in the vase.

The door to the house was then slammed open, and Lucas entered in with his eyes gleaming in excitement. A wide smile adorned his face while he plopped down beside Violet, causing the seat to sink.

He placed his arm around Violet’s shoulder and pulled her closer. "Guess what I have heard!"

"What got you acting like a monkey so early in the morning," commented Lydia from the kitchen while she was working on her cup of coffee.

Lucas scoffed and ignored her, turning his attention to Violet.

Violet arched her brows and stared at him in full interest.

"Apparently, that bastard Mathew was found unconscious in the ditch— sunken in with all the disgusting waste," Lucas informed.

Violet scrunched up her nose in disgust simply by imagining the situation.

Knowing Mathew’s obsession with building a perfect Alpha-like image in order to hide his status and inferiority, this would do a lot of damage on him. He might be seething in one corner of the pack now.

Since Lucas managed to get the news, it seemed that it had spread all across. His name will be mocked for decades to come because when you’re in a high position, no one is willing to let go of a slightest flaw.

"He deserves it," Violet expressed, feeling satisfied. "If only I could see him though, it would feel much better."

Even now, her throat hurt.

"Right. I would sell my soul to reward the one who did it. He is the biggest hero," Lucas expressed.

Violet nodded. "He must have a lot of enemies."

Lucas’s eyes wandered around. "Where’s the Alpha? I haven’t seen him since last night. I have got to tell him about this."

Following that, Lucas leaped off from the couch and rushed upstairs to find Sylas.

As Violet was about to go back to rearranging the flowers, Lydia came over and sat down beside her.

After few seconds of silence between them, Lydia brought up, "Lucas, he cares a lot about you. After a very long period of time, I have seen him so agitated. If he could, he might have taken Mathew’s life."

Violet stared at Lydia in confusion, wondering what she was trying to hint at.

"Lucas might seem like a carefree and friendly person— someone who easily warms up to other— but it’s quite contrary. He doesn’t usually see the value in others.

But you are different to him, Violet. He adores you incredibly. When he calls you precious, he means it. You are not like those whom he approaches and discards at will. He considers everything about you.

I can see that you’re comfortable around him as well. You can express yourself well in front of him and act spoiled," Lydia carried on.

Violet responded, "Yeah, Lucas is a considerate friend. If it weren’t for him, I might not be able to get over my grief now. I could never repay him enough."

"It is because of you he acts like this. If it was someone else, he wouldn’t save them even if they were dying. To him, nothing actually matters other than casually having fun. You’re special, Violet. You can see that, right?" Lydia vocalized.

Violet frowned.

Lydia then carried on, "The Alpha is the same as well. The incident with Mathew— Alpha was most likely behind it. When the Alpha came here, he detached himself from the world and became a blank canvas. But now because of you, he is willing to step into the murky waters."

"Alpha did it?"

Violet was taken aback. The corner of her lips curved up to form a soft smile.

"So, what about you, Violet? What do you think of them?"
