Chapter 40: Scolded

Violet was about to go to her bed when Lucas grabbed her and dragged her to his car with little to no information on the mischief he was up to.

However, her trust in him allowed her to accompany him while he drove the car through the rugged paths. The occasional bumps made her body sway back and forth.

A layer of tears clouded her vision when she yawned.

"Can you divulge me on the mystery now?" Violet asked, positioning her hands on her waist.

A small smile tugged the corner of Lucas’s lips. "Earlier today, I had a walk around the mine— the one Alpha James has his eyes on."

"And?" Violet raised one of her brows.

"And some explosives are going to get the job done. We can easily close the mine. Although I haven’t shut down a mine before, it shouldn’t be too difficult," Lucas informed. A sly glint sparkled in his eyes.

Violet’s eyes widened. "Explosives? You bought explosives?"

"Well, technically, I made them," Lucas voiced out.

That made Violet more interested. "You can make explosives. That is so cool! How did you learn it?"

The gleaming pair of hazel eyes made him chuckle. "Well, it’s nothing impressive. I picked up a few tricks here and there."

Violet could see that he did not want to further go on in this topic. Respecting his privacy, she did not push it and leaned back against her seat.

"You accepted it well. I thought I would have some convincing to do," Lucas spoke out.

Violet shook her head. "If I can’t get the benefits of the mine, no one else can. The mine belongs to me, not to Mathew, not to James, not to anyone else. What’s mine should only be mine or else it can be destroyed."

Violet’s tone was resolute.

Lucas stared at Violet from the corner of his eyes. "What a spirit you have for a delicate young lady. At the end of the day, you too have Alpha blood running through you."

A sheepish grin formed on her face.

The car was parked at a distant from where the mine was, not wanting to alert the other party. Violet and Lucas carefully stepped out of the car. Lucas sprayed them to hide their scents.

Lucas led her way through the dense forestry. The howls of the distant wolves mixed with cries of other animals created an eerie atmosphere. Lucas guided her, preventing her from getting poked by the extended sharp branches.

Hiding the shadows, both of them spotted the cave that led into the mine. Werewolves were stationed around the area, and clear hostility and aggravation could be seen from two groups of werewolves.

Due to the tension between the opposing parties, the excavation has been paused these couple days.

"Stay here. Don’t move unless I say so," Lucas instructed.

Violet nodded.

Lucas head towards the other direction and threw an explosive. A loud sound followed, accompanied by the burst of dust and rocks. The alerted werewolves sent few of their fellow guards to see the scene.

Soon after that, Lucas targeted few more explosives in the random direction. Violet bent down and closed her mouth and nose to prevent suffocation.

Even then, she couldn’t stop coughing.

After that, Lucas grabbed her hand and brought her forward.

"Throw it," he vocalized, placing a more powerful explosive in her hand.

The weight and the lethality of the explosive made her hand tremble. Exhilaration and nervousness ran through her veins. She couldn’t believe she was about to do something like this.

This was all new to Violet.

Lucas helped her hurl the explosive. Her trembling hands made the position a little off, but Lucas patted on her back, comforting her how it was no big deal.

After that, Lucas launched two more bombs with practiced ease. The air tensed for a second and Violet’s heart skipped a beat before a series of deafening detonations followed.

The debris and rocks were sent spiraling into the air out of impact. The smoke rose high as Violet felt the ground underneath her.

Violet was hardly able to process the situation when Lucas held her hand and ran out of her there hurriedly. The thick smoke masked vision and entered her lungs, eliciting coughs from her.

Their escape wasn’t unfortunately smooth with the guarding werewolves noticing their presence.

"There they are! Get them! They intruded here!"

Shouts went on after them.

The panic flooding through her veins only made Violet run faster. The protruding sharp branches scratched against the arm, tearing through her sleeves and leaving wounds.

Hurrying through the thick foliage while trying to keep up with Lucas caused Violet to lose her balance and fall down. Her knee collided against the sharp rock, and a wince left her mouth.

Lucas noticed and turned back.

"Are you alright?"

Before she could nod, he wrapped his hand around her waist and carried her like baggage, moving forward.

Luck was on their side as the commotion impeded those werewolves from reaching them. Lucas tossed her into the car before getting on the driver’s seat and riding off.

Violet’s heart pounded against her chest— loud sound reaching her chest. Her breathing was heavy. As the situation sunk into her head, Violet felt satisfied like she never did.

Once they returned back to the house, Violet’s side smile was as bright as ever as she jumped and raised her hand, slapping Lucas’s. The pair of hazel eyes brimmed with delight.

"Lucas, that was so fun! Never did I have so much fun in my life! We should totally do it again! There are a lot more mines my dad left me.

Why don’t we explode all of those!? We can’t let those ungrateful ones take advantage of it. Also, also, teach me how to make explosives. I want to blast off on my own in the future as well," Violet blabbered on.

"Calm down, calm down, Princess," Lucas said with a smile in his eyes.

"Then, are you going to teach me how to make explosives in the future? It would be so cool to do—"

The smile on her face instantly dropped, and Violet nervously gulped. The color in those hazel eyes drained away, replaced with apprehension. Lucas’s expression mirrored hers.

"What would be so fun?" Sylas gently asked. His hands were folded over his chest with one of his brows raised.

"A-Alpha," Violet’s voice quivered. "Why are you awake this late at night? Were we too loud? Did we wake you up? I am sorry. We will head back to our room."

Violet extended her feet, about to run away when Sylas ordered, "Stop there."

Violet’s spine instantly straightened, and she froze there. Guilt flickered in her eyes.

Sylas first looked at Lucas.

"Did I not prohibit you from recklessly using explosives?" Sylas asked— his voice was calm.

"Yes, but Alpha, this was for a good cause. I did it to avenge Violet. And no one would know I was the one behind it. Trust me. No trouble will be brought to you," Lucas explained quickly.

In order to show her solidarity, Violet nodded.

"Oh, but I did prohibit you, right?" Sylas repeated. freewebnøvel_com

Lucas’s blood ran cold. The calmer the Alpha sounded, the more mad he was.

Lucas was done for.

"Alpha, you did," Lucas submissively said, looking down at the floor.

Sylas’s chillingly oppressive gaze then focused on Violet.

"Have you seen your state?" Sylas asked.

Dust covered her torn clothing, and the scratches on her body were yet to be healed. Her pants were shredded off at the knee, revealing the wound underneath. Ash and dirt clung to her face as well, making her look messy over all.

The dry throat had her gulp once again. Her voice came out in a tiny squeak as she vocalized, "Alpha, it will be fine once I wash up."

Sylas pinched his forehead.

"Do you both have any awareness of how dangerous today’s situation could have been? Did you think of informing me once before acting?

Going out there when you’re being witch hunted out there, Violet, do you seek death so much? And Lucas, weren’t you determined to keep her safe? Is this how you do this!?" Sylas scolded— his voice rising with each syllable.
