The Rising Phoenix-Chapter 931: Seven-Leaf Frost Root.
"Young Lady, I am deeply sorry that you experienced such an unpleasant incident in our store. We will immediately place that man on our blacklist and prohibit him from entering our premises again. I will also notify all of our other branches about him, so you do not need to worry about encountering him elsewhere." The manager said respectfully.
"So... Do you have any rare herbs here?" Bai Xifeng asked.
The manager immediately straightened his posture as if he had been waiting for that very question.
"Ah, the public floor is for the common trade. For a guest of your calibre, we have the ’Heavenly Selection’ vault. We recently acquired a Seven-Leaf Frost Root that has been ageing for over three hundred years. Would the Lady be interested in seeing it?" The manager asked.
Bai Xifeng’s interest finally piqued. A three-hundred-year Frost Root was exactly the kind of rare find she needed.
"Lead the way." Bai Xifeng nodded.
"Yes, my lady. Please follow me." The manager said while gesturing politely at Bai Xifeng to follow him.
Bai Xifeng followed the manager, going deeper into the pavilion.
As she followed the manager toward the private back rooms, the remaining customers watched her in a new light. She was not just a beauty. She was a predator in silk clothing, and the Shanghai Pavilion was treating her like royalty.
However, what no one noticed was that the middle-aged man who had just left the shop was standing across the street. His face was extremely dark.
"Just you wait, little girl..." The man muttered coldly. "I will make sure you regret humiliating me today."
Without realising it, Bai Xifeng had made a new enemy.
The manager led Bai Xifeng through the series of reinforced doors. Each door was guarded by the powerful array formation. The air gradually became cooler and denser, filled with the faint scent of ancient wood and spiritual herbs.
They finally arrived at the Heavenly Selection Vault. Unlike the bustling floors outside, this room was completely silent and carried an air of solemn reverence.
The walls were lined with shelved that carved from cold jade. Each item was encased in a transparent barrier to prevent any leakage of its spiritual essence.
This is our most prized collection at the moment." The manager said as he gestured toward the surrounding herbs and treasures.
He then gestured toward a central pedestal where a single, gnarled root lay. It glowed with a faint, crystalline blue light, frosting the interior of its glass case.
Bai Xifeng’s eyes lit up as she saw the herb. It was one of the herbs that she needed to break the fifth seal. Even though she did not need it at the moment, it was better if she could secure the herb first. She could always store it safely inside the Mirror World until the time came.
Bai Xifeng came closer. As she got closer to the herb, she could feel the chill emanating from it. Indeed, it perfectly matched its name.
The Seven-Leaf Frost Root.
She looked at the description. Its age was 320 years old. The older this herb became, the more potent its medicinal properties would grow.
She also observed its condition. It was pristine. The seven leaves were still attached to the root. Each leaf shimmered faintly, resembling delicate flakes of fallen snow.
"It is indeed a rare find." Bai Xifeng murmured in appreciation.
"Yes, we just found it a few months ago." The manager explained.
"The spiritual veins within the root are still active. You have preserved it well." Bai Xifeng said as she examined it more closely.
"We used a special array formation to maintain its state. It costs a fortune in spirit stone to keep the formation, but for an item of this grade, it is necessary." The manager replied with a proud smile.
Bai Xifeng turned around to scan the surrounding shelves. Her gaze stopped at a dusty, unassuming black wooden bow tucked away in a corner, far from the highlighted treasures. Unlike the other items, it did not even have an array formation protecting it.
"What is that?" Bai Xifeng asked while pointing at the black wooden box. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The manager glanced in that direction.
"Eh? Why is this item still here?" The manager looked equally surprised.
"You don’t know?" Bai Xifeng asked.
"Oh, that? It is an ’Unknown Grade’ item. We acquired it from a travelling merchant years ago. It is a piece of fossilised wood, or so we thought. No one has been able to identify its properties, and it refuses to absorb any spiritual energy. It is essentially a paperweight." The manager explained. Then he added with slight embarrassment. "I thought someone had already taken it away and sold it. I did not realise it was still stored here."
Bai Xifeng got closer. As she neared it, she felt a strange thrumming in her own medirians. It was as if something inside the black wooden box was reacting to her presence.
"May I take a closer look at it?" Bai Xifeng asked.
The manager hesitated for a second before nodding. "Of course, since the owner has granted you full access, you may examine anything."
The manager picked up the black wooden box and deactivated the simple lock on the box. He opened it and presented the contents to Bai Xifeng.
Bai Xifeng looked inside. She saw a piece of charcoal-like wood, no longer than a finger. It looked burnt, dead, and utterly worthless.
However, when Bai Xifeng touched it, a spark of pure, primordial energy jolted through her fingertips. Her eyes widened slightly.
Then she heard a familiar voice. It was Baishe’s voice. He was communicating directly with her through her mind.
