The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 26 - 25: Why Can’t I Understand?
"Grandpa, Sister Xuan, Uncle Lu, what’s going on today? Why is everyone here?" The youth slung his bag onto a rosewood chair and turned around, his face a mask of confusion.
But when he saw the looks on everyone’s faces, he suddenly exclaimed, "Wait, something’s wrong. What happened?"
"Get lost! Why do I get so irritated the moment I see you? Scram!" Ye Jizu frowned and snapped at the young man.
"You’re the one telling me to get lost! Just don’t send people to tie me up and drag me back!" Ye Haoxuan shot back, rebelliously meeting Ye Jizu’s gaze.
"Like father, like son, Ye Jizu! Look! Just look at this fine son you’ve raised!" Ye Congjun pointed at Ye Jizu, scolding him with a mix of anger and disappointment.
Ye Congjun had four sons. The eldest joined the army, the second went into politics, and the third ran a business abroad. Only the fourth, Ye Jizu, refused to hold a respectable job, carrying the air of a Martial World ruffian and always operating in gray areas. The son he fathered was his spitting image in personality. This father-son duo caused no end of secret criticism against the Ye Family, which was a constant source of frustration for the old man.
If it weren’t for the situation with Qin Fan, the Old Master probably wouldn’t have acknowledged Ye Jizu so soon, let alone allowed him home. As for returning on his own? Even if Ye Jizu wanted to, he wouldn’t have the guts. He knew that the moment he stepped foot in the house, the old man could lash out and beat him at any second.
Knowing the Old Master’s precarious health, Ye Jizu didn’t dare to argue back. "The Old Master is right. It’s my fault for not disciplining him properly!"
With a sheepish laugh, he turned to Ye Haoxuan and roared, "Ye Haoxuan, stand up straight!" As he spoke, he dragged his lame leg forward a few steps.
But the sight made Ye Haoxuan freeze. "Old man, what happened to your leg?" he exclaimed. Looking up, he then noticed his father’s bandaged fingers. "Dad, what happened to you?" he cried in a panic. "What’s wrong with your hand and leg?"
"Shut up and stand aside! It’s none of your business!" Ye Jizu shot him a vicious glare.
"That’s enough! Stop this endless bickering. Haoxuan, I need to ask you something. You’re a student at Qi Middle School. Do you know Qin Fan well?" Ye Congjun cast a sharp glance at Ye Jizu before turning to his grandson.
"Qin Fan? The outcast of the Qin family? That loser? Grandpa, why are you asking about him? Why would I be familiar with a wimp like that? I can’t even be bothered to talk to him; it’s beneath me! Grandpa, did he mess with someone in our family? That waste of space, I’ll go sort him out!" Ye Haoxuan’s unruly arrogance flared up once again.
His words had barely faded when Ye Jizu’s hand shot out and smacked him upside the head.
"You damn fool!" he roared. "You’re lucky you said that in here. If you had said that outside, you wouldn’t even know how you died!"
"What? What is going on? What are you doing? How could the whole school’s punching bag possibly kill me?" Ye Haoxuan yelled, stomping his feet.
"Your dad is right. Everyone has completely misjudged him. He isn’t some cowardly loser. Even your father and I have to address him as Lord Qin. Honestly, if he really did something to you, nobody could do a thing to stop him! Haoxuan, I’ll ask you one more time. Have you ever provoked him? Have you ever bullied him? Tell the truth. You must be honest!" Ye Congjun couldn’t be bothered to deal with the father and son’s ruffian-like attitudes—he was used to it by now—and instead asked with a grave expression.
"No!" Ye Haoxuan blurted out.
He truly had never had any conflict with Qin Fan. Given his own status, why would he ever stoop to bullying Qin Fan just to feel a sense of accomplishment? It would be like using a cannon to shoot a mosquito—utterly humiliating! In short, he was simply disdainful.
"Good. Very good! We are going to find Qin Fan now, and you’re coming with us. From this moment on, you must maintain a good relationship with him. Even if you can’t befriend him, you must not offend him in the slightest. If you get the chance to follow him, consider it the blessing of a lifetime!" Ye Congjun declared, his words intentionally shocking.
Hearing this, Ye Haoxuan was utterly flabbergasted. He recalled his grandfather saying that even he and his father had to address the boy as Lord Qin. And now this, that following him would be the blessing of a lifetime! What... what was happening? Had the world gone mad? A loser everyone could step on, bully, and humiliate had suddenly transformed into such an important figure? This can’t be a dream, can it?
Before he could fully process it, Ye Congjun had already taken the lead and walked out. Ye Jizu shot him a fierce glare before following closely with Wang Lu.
"Haoxuan, you’re lucky you never provoked him. Otherwise, you’d be in serious trouble," Ye Xuan said as she walked over, fondly ruffling his hair.
"Sister Xuan, wh-what’s going on? I don’t understand any of this," Ye Haoxuan said, his head spinning.
"Uncle Lu was defeated by him in a single move, and Fourth Uncle’s security team and bodyguards were all taken care of by him. Oh, and... Fourth Uncle’s fingers and leg were crippled by him, too. Get it now? Grandpa was right. If we can build a connection with him, it would mean absolute influence for you and for the entire Ye Family! Come on, let’s go. We need to keep up!"
After finishing, Ye Xuan grabbed Ye Haoxuan’s arm and pulled him outside.
「The urban village.」
Inside the apartment building, there was no more talk of schoolwork. The Qin family of three was enjoying a cheerful dinner, the room filled with happy laughter and a palpable sense of warmth.
Suddenly, Qin Fan’s Divine Sense detected the Ye family heading their way. His brow furrowed slightly. What other reason could the Ye family have for coming to this neighborhood except for him?
He stood up, grabbed two tissues to wipe his mouth, and said, "Dad, Mom, I’m full. I’m heading out for a minute."
Without waiting for his parents to respond, he hurried out the door. He couldn’t let the Ye Family appear before his parents; he would have no way to explain it.
"Fan has been very strange lately, Qin Chu. Have you noticed?" Wei Shuying said, not calling out to her son but watching his departing back with a puzzled expression.
"Yes, but it’s a good thing, actually," Qin Chu replied with a gentle smile, picking up some food with his chopsticks. "Compared to before, when he would coop himself up at home all day, I was genuinely afraid he might develop some psychological problems. Our son is growing up. We should let him be. I trust he knows what he’s doing. There’s no need to be too strict."
Wei Shuying nodded, but her gaze grew pensive. She simply couldn’t fathom it. How could a person’s personality change so drastically? The Qin Fan of before and the Qin Fan of now were like two completely different people.
Stepping out of the house, Qin Fan looked up to see two Audis carrying the Ye family slowly approaching the apartment building.
A wicked smirk curved his lips. He had obviously already guessed the reason for their visit. Still smirking, he walked briskly forward, stopping a hundred meters in front of the Audis.
Ye Congjun and Ye Jizu were the first to get out of the car. They offered respectful, fawning smiles and called out, "Lord Qin!"
"We’ll talk somewhere else. Follow me."
Saying this, he didn’t spare them another glance. With his hands in his pockets, he nonchalantly strolled off to the left. The two Audis followed behind him at a crawl.
