Chapter 149: Chapter 146: No Need to Look, I’m Here!

In the wilderness of the Southwest was a secluded village, the scene entirely different from the impoverished and desolate landscape that marked the outer regions. Inside the village, exquisitely crafted bamboo and wooden cottages were scattered tastefully amidst birdsong and floral scents, creating the atmosphere of a true Paradise hidden from the world.

This was the stronghold of the Bai Clan, a stronghold little known to the outside world.

Within a magnificent and ancient house, sprawling over a vast area, Bai Li nodded indifferently at the greetings as he strode quickly in from the courtyard.

"What’s wrong, Third Brother?" a man with his arms crossed asked, looking at Bai Li. "With that look on your face, did someone refuse to pay you?"

"Don’t be so quick to call it a joke, First Brother! There might very well be someone who owes our Third Brother money," another man added with a flippant laugh. "When he left over ten days ago, didn’t he say he would bring back at least 300 million? Now there’s no sight of the money. He must have gotten stiffed, haha!"

Bai Li stopped in his tracks. His face darkened as he glared at the two men.

"Shut up!" he snapped in a somber voice. "It’s none of your business how I handle my affairs!"

"Fine, we won’t meddle! But you have to take responsibility for your own words! The clan is in urgent need of funds. You boasted about bringing back 300 million, and now the entire clan is waiting for you to make good on your wild claim! So, you’d better think carefully!" Bai Wen, the eldest of Bai Li’s brothers, huffed coldly.

"Third Brother, it’s not that I want to criticize you, but why make such a huge, empty promise? 300 million is no small sum. The ancient tombs underground have been all but cleaned out, so the Tomb Raider Captain business isn’t what it used to be. And when we go out to perform Geomancy inspections for homes or burial sites, we have to compete with those Geomancy Inspectors. You know what our lineage’s cultivation depends on. Without enough money to support it, who knows what kind of trouble might pop up!" Bai Yun, the one who had snickered earlier, smacked his lips, a hint of schadenfreude in his tone.

The two brothers were indeed jealous of Bai Li. For one, Bai Li’s mother was their stepmother; they weren’t born of the same woman. On top of that, this son of a stepmother possessed far greater innate talent than they did and was doted on by their Clan Leader grandfather and their father. Under these circumstances, how could they not feel jealous or want to see him fail?

"Rest assured! Even if I have to rob a bank or resort to kidnapping, I won’t let the Bai Clan fall into hardship! Is a mere 300 million enough to get you this worked up? Could your horizons be any narrower? Hmph!"

Bai Li shook his head disdainfully. He paid them no more mind and strode deeper into the complex.

He entered a lavishly decorated room, so spacious it could be considered a hall.

As Bai Li’s figure appeared, dozens of teenage girls stood up in unison.

"Third Young Master!"

These dozens of girls had all been acquired by the Bai Clan through various means and had undergone absolute brainwashing. Their minds were permanently imprinted with their sole mission: to serve the men of the Bai Clan.

Bai Li coldly pointed at three innocent-looking girls. "You, you, and you. Follow me." He then turned and walked toward an adjacent private room.

"Yes, Third Young Master!"

The three girls clearly knew what was about to happen. Yet, they showed no signs of nervousness or panic. Instead, their faces were flushed with excitement and agitation. One had to admit, the Bai Clan’s brainwashing methods were truly masterful.

Before long, cries of pain emanated from the secluded room. Soon after, the cries of pain transformed into sultry moans that would set one’s blood racing.

Twenty minutes later, Bai Li glanced at the red stains on the bed, his expression impassive. Without a word, he pulled up his trousers and walked out.

Frowning, he pulled out his cell phone as he walked and called the clansman on a mission in Jiangzhou. The call rang on and on, but went unanswered. An inexplicable unease began to surge within Bai Li.

"Damn it! What in the world is happening!" he muttered fiercely, clutching his chest as the unease grew. He blinked rapidly, his expression turning savage.

His brow furrowed tightly. Gritting his teeth, he seemed to make a decision he’d rather have avoided and strode quickly toward the main hall.

"A Li, why the hurry? Has something happened?" an old man sitting on a Taishi Chair asked. He was dressed in a Tang suit and humming a Peking opera tune, and his eyes sharpened as he watched Bai Li walk in.

"Grandfather, Father!" Bai Li’s voice had lost its usual calm composure. After his respectful greeting, he looked toward the other clansmen and maids.

"All of you, leave us!" the old man said with a wave of his hand, understanding Bai Li’s intention.

Suddenly, only the three of them remained in the main hall.

"A Li, what exactly happened?" asked Bai Li’s father, Bai Chongshan, his brow furrowed.

"Grandfather, Father, I think I’ve caused a catastrophe. On my recent trip to Jiangzhou, someone saw through my practice of the Yin Yang Balance Technique. He even exposed our Cultivation Secret Technique!"

"What!"

Hearing this, Bai Chongshan’s eyes flew open, and he shot up from his chair. His expression changed drastically in an instant. If their clan’s extreme Cultivation Secret Technique were to be exposed, it would spell unimaginable disaster for the Bai Clan!

Even the Clan Leader on the Taishi Chair was deeply moved, his brow furrowing in concern. His wrinkled old face trembled slightly, the chair stopped rocking, and he ceased his humming. Tightly knitting his brows, he asked, "A Li, are you telling the truth? Who is this person? Why didn’t you find a way to silence him?"

"Grandfather! His name is Qin Fan, a teenage student and a disowned member of the Qin family in Jiangzhou! He’s also a Martial Artist. I fought him. I wanted to kill him right then, but... but in the end, I was no match for him! I had to flee in a panic!" Bai Li said, his face flushing with shame.

If the situation weren’t so critical, if it weren’t for the sake of their safety, he would never have confessed this. But the unanswered phone calls, coupled with the sudden surge of unease in his heart, prompted him to tell the whole truth.

"How is that possible? You couldn’t even defeat a teenage brat?" Bai Chongshan exclaimed in shock.

"It’s true, Father. I couldn’t see through him! Not at all. Our feud started because he ruined the 300 million deal I had secured. He cracked my Thunder Drawing Qiankun Gua and figured out my methods, and the prize slipped right through my fingers! Afterward, I planned to kill him to vent my anger, but I never expected him to expose our secrets! After I was defeated and fled, he vanished without a trace. Later, I sent someone to kill his parents to lure him out, but the attempt failed. His parents survived and were saved at the hospital. Two hours ago, I sent someone to finish the job at the hospital, but I haven’t heard back, and now I can’t get in contact with them!" The anxiety in Bai Li’s chest grew tighter and more suffocating, and his words tumbled out in a rush.

"You... A Li! You fool! You’ve disappointed me greatly. Why didn’t you report this to me immediately? We should have exhausted the Bai Clan’s full resources to find and silence him at once! You know how sensitive that secret is. How could you treat it so casually? It’s too late for regrets now. Chongshan, go! No matter what it takes, find that Qin Fan! We must capture him, get the truth, and then eliminate him!" the elder on the Taishi Chair commanded, his voice laced with panic and urgency.

Half a month had passed. If word had truly gotten out, the consequences would be unimaginable.

But before Bai Chongshan could acknowledge the order, a frivolous, mocking voice suddenly rang out from beyond the ancient doors of the main hall.

"No need to search. I’m already here."
