The Regressor's Younger Brother's Insanity-Chapter 47: Mother’s Concern
Cierra was holding a piece of paper and a black pen to write her daily to-do list. what she called her ’Love Note’.
But instead, she was staring out the window in a daze.
Last night, she had kissed Aether on the cheek and run away in embarrassment. As a result, she was now troubled over how she should approach him.
Should I act normal and pretend nothing happened? No, that’s not a good idea.
I think I should avoid him and then slowly get closer. No, no....that’s a bad idea too. I can’t stay without seeing him.
Aaaaaa, what should I do?
Cierra thought of many ways to act normal, but they all felt either cringe or cold.
Maybe I should wait for him to make the first move... Yes, that’s it. That’s a good idea.
Knock, knock.
Just as she was lost in thought, someone knocked at the door.
Cierra’s personal maid stepped forward and opened it.
"Oh, mother-in-law." Cierra said with a gentle smile.
It was Aether’s mother, Seraphina von Noctvain.
"How are you, my dear?" Aether’s mother asked Cierra.
" I’m fine. How are you, Mother?"
" I’m also fine, dear." Aether’s mother replied.
Then suddenly, Aether’s mother grabbed Cierra’s hand and spoke in a serious tone.
"Cierra, may I ask you something, dear?"
"Ah....yes, please."
"How about we have your engagement with my son before he goes to the academy?"
Although Aether and Cierra are already considered fiancés, it is only because Aether’s mother and Cierra’s mother are childhood friends. As a result, both of them were recognized as fiancés, but they had not had a formal engagement.
Since Aether was going to attend the academy after this month, his mother thought, why not have the engagement before he leaves?
"Ma... ma... Mother!" Cierra’s face instantly turned red. The hand Aether’s mother was holding also turned red with embarrassment.
Aether’s mother leaned toward her and spoke in a serious tone,
"You don’t want to have the engagement?"
"No, it’s not like that. I just... I... we should ask Aether’s opinion... I don’t think he would want to waste time on the engagement." Cierra said in a sorrowful voice.
From their perspective, Aether never really cared about engagements or other functions. Even if the imperial family invited him to a function, he would just ignore it.
"Don’t you think Aether is being too nice? When I was unconscious because he brought Thalia von Ravenfall, he stayed by my side and was genuinely worried. Don’t you think he has changed?" Aether’s mother asked
"Uhh... Ahh... I think that’s true too." Cierra replied. In the whole empire, no one knew better than her how much Aether had changed. He had even invited her to the lake and spoken to her so romantically.
[ I have thousands of desires. But in my one desire to know you, all else melted away.]
"Aaaaaaa!" she screamed, thinking about that embarrassing moment, She had unknowingly let out a cry of shyness.
"Why did you scream in embarrassment just now when I asked about his change? Did something happen between you two?" Aether’s mother grew suspicious at her reaction.
"No no, Mother, it’s not like that. Nothing happened." Cierra shyly moved backward.
Aether’s mother didn’t know exactly what had happened, but she could guess from Cierra’s behavior that Aether must have said something nice to clear the misunderstanding about Thalia.
Did he ask for forgiveness? Or maybe say, ’Have trust in me!’ No no. Aether isn’t that good-natured.
She didn’t know what had happened. If she heard about the moment under the moonlight and his romantic voice, she would probably pass out, or might even think Aether was possessed.
Although Aether’s mother was cold-natured, but when it came to her children, she was somewhat awkward. She was also eager for Aether and Cierra to marry quickly, as she wanted grandchildren.
"Anyway, we should have your engagement with Aether before he reverts back to being cold." Aether’s mother said.
"Ah... I need to talk to my mother." Cierra agreed with her suggestion, but she was too shy to say it herself. As an excuse, she pointed toward her mother.
"Yes, yes. I’ll talk with your mother about this too." Aether’s mother nodded.
Cierra also smiled awkwardly.
"Then, shall I bring up the reason why I came here?" Aether’s mother said, clapping her hands together.
"Ah..."
"Do you know Aether is going to the secret vault for the cursed sword of our family?"
"Whaaat!!!"
"So you don’t know. Aether asked his father to let him enter the secret vault, but his father refused. Then his father gave Aether an impossible task: to defeat the Soulborne. As a reward, he would let him enter the secret vault."
Aether’s mother continued,
"His father even gave the Left Guardian the order to kill the Soulborne before Aether could deal the final blow. Though we thought that wouldn’t be necessary, we knew it was a Tier 6 Soulborne and that Aether wouldn’t even be able to stand in front of it. But then we found out it was a Tier 7, and he still defeated it."
"But Mother, I heard he did that with the help of Lady Thalia and her maid. Shouldn’t that count as a disqualification?"
"I also raised the same question, but the Left Guardian stepped in and said Aether’s power was like a sea, and their help was just a drop of water. He even praised the sword technique Aether had created."
"He created his own Sword art?" Cierra was shocked to hear that.
"The Left Guardian said himself that if he were to take that blow, he would be shredded to pieces."
"!!!!... For an Unrestrained Realm Master to praise his sword technique, just how strong is he?"
"Same question!" Aether’s mother replied. "So I want to keep him busy with the engagement."
Aether’s mother wanted to keep Aether busy with his engagement. That way, he wouldn’t get the chance to enter the vault, and by the time his departure for the academy came, he would be forced to leave without setting foot in the secret vault.
"Aa... I see." Cierra placed her hand on her cheek and thought deeply about the plan.
"Don’t misunderstand. I also want to do your engagement, so if it can also keep him away from the sword, then it’s killing two birds with one stone."
"I didn’t misunderstand. I know how much you love your children, especially Aether."
"Waaa, you’re such a kind-hearted girl. Aether is lucky to have you as his life partner." Aether"s mother said, then hugged her.
"Mother, you’re saying embarrassing things."
"Hehe, is that so?"
