The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases-Chapter 524 - 317: Follow in My Wake
"..."
Attilicia was stunned by this ’too lazy to be born’ comment, speechless for a long moment.
...That must be David’s child, no doubt about it.
Only someone who inherited David’s Sloth could be lazy to an extent that would exasperate even Dragons.
However, if one were to look at it from another angle, wasn’t it a case of each generation surpassing the previous one?
After all, for Dragons, any personality trait taken to an extreme is a manifestation of a talent and ability. This was evident, at least from Satilaesa’s three sisters who were born first. Especially Satilaesa’s near-wish-fulfillment Pride; a ’grow up overnight’ kind of miracle that was enough to shock and evoke envy, jealousy, and hatred among the other Dragons.
If every Dragon possessed such a heaven-defying ability to skip over their frail hatchling phase... Attilicia smacked his lips, only able to daydream about it.
It is said that only the legendary Time Dragons have similar capabilities, but which growth phase they enter after hatching is purely a matter of luck. If their luck is bad and they roll a ’one,’ remaining as a hatchling, that would truly be a pitiable life for a Dragon.
As for why all seven dragon children who inherited David’s abilities were daughters, Attilicia wasn’t surprised at all. After all, David’s Arrogance itself had the power to turn the subconscious into reality.
This only suggested one thing: deep down, David had an inexplicable partiality for having daughters...
After mulling over these shocking ’posthumous affairs’ concerning David for some time, Attilicia finally asked Satilaesa her true reason for coming.
Even though, chronologically, Satilaesa was still a thirteen-year-old young Dragon, the average intelligence of a Dragon upon hatching was already on par with an ordinary adult human. And Satilaesa was a rare genius. Under the influence of her Pride, she had grown into an adult-sized Dragon, hardly smaller than him. Although Attilicia still felt a bit awkward and couldn’t quite wrap his head around it, he didn’t regard Satilaesa as an ordinary Dragon child.
His instinct told him that Satilaesa leaving the shelter of Dragon Island with her two sisters could not simply be for a family visit.
Sure enough, upon hearing his question, Satilaesa stopped in her tracks. She turned around, lowered her head slightly to look at Attilicia, and then, lifting her chin, spoke with an earnest demeanor, "I’ve come back to take over my father’s lordship of Katjana, as well as the political... assets he left behind."
She had meant to say ’inheritance,’ but a persistent belief she held made her change it to ’assets’ at the last moment.
"Political assets?" Attilicia was merely surprised that Satilaesa wanted to inherit David’s lordship. After all, it was only natural for a child to take over their parent’s business, just as David had naturally taken over Katjana, the territory Pafila left behind when she ascended. As her father, David was only managing it on an interim basis, destined to formally hand it over to Satilaesa one day.
He just couldn’t understand why Satilaesa was in such a hurry.
And why did she specifically mention ’political assets’?
His perception was still stuck at the moment of the Battle of Dewensen and hadn’t recovered.
"Yes, he left me a substantial political asset."
Satilaesa immediately turned and continued walking out of the nest, a proud smile on her lips as she said, "Before Father left, he had called upon the Dragon Lords of Skanis more than once to launch a war of expulsion against the Elves.
"But deterred by the Elves’ Slaying King Star Dragon Mad Lock, and with the Battle of Montero having reduced our Thunder Dragon Rod production to zero, the Dragon Lords of Skanis had maintained an attitude of overt support but covert neutrality.
"Yet, since Father’s self-sacrificial strike three years ago—which sent The Slaying King Star plummeting from the sky—his heroic and fearless figure in the Battle of Dewensen has spread across Elariya, Toriel, and even more distant planes.
"Titles such as ’Starbreaker,’ ’Red Dragon of Illusion Shattering,’ and ’The Scarlet Star that Destroys Seals’ are now countless on the tongues of Bards.
"My father, with the fire of his own life, utterly broke the shackles that had bound the minds and bodies of the entire Dragon Clan for thirty thousand years.
"All Dragons owe him a debt of gratitude they can never repay.
"And his ’death’ at Dewensen utterly ignited the dragons’ hatred and anger towards the Elves.
"This is... the desire of countless Dragon hearts.
"The opportunity Father had long awaited, sought for in vain, has finally arrived.
"And I am here for that very reason.
"Whether or not he returns," she declared, "I, as his eldest daughter, have the duty to inherit his will and aspirations. This is my solemn vow.
"I must avenge him...
"VENGEANCE!"
As Satilaesa spoke these words, Attilicia felt both ashamed and inexplicably fired up.
Just as their group of dragons passed through the long, narrow tunnel, they arrived at the highest summit of the Montero mines.
Having lived underground for three years, Attilicia initially struggled to adapt to the dazzling sunlight of the Kutaro Desert. He instinctively raised a claw to shield his brow, gradually accustoming his eyes to the sudden change in light.
He could faintly hear a thunderous chorus of dragon roars. At first, he thought it was an auditory hallucination, until his draconic pupils contracted to slits like a cat’s eyes. Only then did he realize with a start that the entire Montero mine was now occupied by a sea of dragons, covering every mountain and filling every valley.
Every renowned Dragon Lord had taken a position on a summit: Felicia, Lord of the Marshlands; Figaroa, the Flameclaw matriarch; indeed, all the legendary Dragon Lords known throughout Skanis had gathered.
In that moment, Attilicia felt an indescribable sense of being moved, mixed with a strange sorrow.
So this was his descendant, already such a renowned dragon in the world...?
And just then, perhaps because word had spread that Satilaesa was about to inherit the lordship of Katjana and seek revenge for her father, he vaguely saw even more dragons and wyverns rushing in from the coasts and other planes.
As Satilaesa ascended to the high throne, Attilicia’s throat felt parched with pride.
He heard the somewhat numb voice of Alfonse, the black dragon vassal, still announcing the continuous arrival of emissary groups:
"The Lord of the Eight Peaks Mountain, Dwarf King Temur, brings greetings to Lady Satilaesa on behalf of the eight dwarven lords of the mountains!"
And as that group of dwarves, not hesitating to trek across half the Skanis continent on foot, wound through the desert with their triangular banners held high, ships representing the human Luwalden Empire also came ashore, their numbers gradually filling the coastline:
"Emperor Klinsmann of the Luwalden Empire sends congratulations to Lady Satilaesa!"
Before long, a portal from the Toriel Plane, another from Barto Hell, and a third from the Astral Plane opened in succession:
"Samweir from the Toriel Plane sends blessings and congratulations to Lady Satilaesa on behalf of His Majesty, Golden Dragon King Anatoli!"
"Red Dragon Vassal Ephelomon from the Evil Scale Fortress sends congratulations to Lady Satilaesa!"
"Yolanda, representing the Glaciya Succubus Clan of Barto Hell, sends congratulations to Lady Satilaesa!"
"Brittany, representing the Sed Ponga family from the Astral Plane, sends congratulations to Lady Satilaesa!"
Then, under the watchful eyes of all, amidst the restless roars of the assembled dragons, as Attilicia finally could not hold back his tears, Alicia, the Silver Dragon Princess of Dragon Island, approached with her daughter Violet and her other four sisters. Bowing beside the throne, she said in a voice that was clear yet firm, "I, Alicia, on behalf of the metallic Dragon Clan of Dragon Island, extend congratulations to Lady Satilaesa."
The next moment, the Silver Dragon Princess looked up expectantly at Satilaesa and said, "Give the order, Lady Satilaesa. It is time to fulfill the grand ambitions left by Lord David Uthos."
Hearing this, Satilaesa’s eyes widened. She rose with arrogance from her throne, lifted a claw toward the sea, and surveyed the dragons amidst the mountains:
"In my name, Satilaesa!
"Fulfilling the wish of my father, David Uthos!
"Dragons!
"Rally behind me!
"With the shadow of my dragon wings, shroud the sky!
"With the breath of my dragon,
"Let the Elven lands be scorched barren!
"With the tracks of my dragon feet...
"Completely... FLATTEN THE NEW CONTINENT!!!"
"ROAR!!!!!"
Though Satilaesa’s voice still held a hint of juvenile timbre, it was sonorous and reverberated powerfully, echoing through the mountains.
And the dragons of the mountains responded to her, the inheritor of David’s will, with a unified roar:
"FLATTEN THE NEW CONTINENT!"
"ROAR!!!"
