The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases-Chapter 508 - 305: History’s Biggest Bombshell
In the spotlight, the lavishly dressed Elf Queen Arasya walked slowly to the makeshift podium.
She looked around at the Elves and spoke in a deep voice, "I am gratified that after 30,000 years of separation, since the fall of the Age of Dragons, we High Elves, scattered across the planes like dandelions, can still gather here under the banner of Eugenie Moonbow.
"I know many of you here are present merely because of your Elf Kings’ commands, and your Elf Kings are bound by the ancient pact, sworn before the royal house of Eugenie Moonbow and witnessed by all the Elven Gods, to honor the promises made by your ancestors and come to pay respects.
"You, and the Elf Kings you represent, and indeed the countless Elves of your realms, regard the threat and enemy mentioned in my letter—the Dragons—with utter disdain.
"Considering these oversized lizards to be nothing but pitiable worms, who, having lost their civilization under our Dragon Mad Lock following the Dragonfall War, know only to infight senselessly.
"Given this, the Elf Kings have indeed committed the sin of Pride."
The sudden and explicit criticism from Arasya Eugenie Moonbow caused an uproar among the audience below. It seemed that no one had expected the last descendant Queen of the Eternal Gathering Island to be so blunt.
Yet, before some elven envoys could open their mouths to refute or defend themselves, they heard the Elf Queen speak with earnest gravity, "I do not know how many Elves today have truly studied our history, nor how many are aware that in this world, we High Elves have always been nothing more than outsiders, adrift from a cataclysm that befell our original world. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Thirty thousand years ago, led by the Elven gods, our ancestors came from their collapsing homeland of Ferodiel, through a Teleportation Gate that had exhausted the last of our homeland’s Mana Energy, and beheld a world so grand, peaceful, and fertile.
"Unfortunately, this world already had its masters.
"At that time, the Dragons and Giants, led by their respective gods, the Dragon God and the Giant God, were vying for dominion over the land.
"Under the clash of these powers, other races, including our Elves, could only live in fear and uncertainty, each day precarious as the last.
"Yet the gods and our ancestors were quick to notice the decline of the Giants. Our predecessors humbled themselves through marriages with the primitive native Elves of Toriel—such as the Prairie Elves, Grey Elves, and Winged Elves—who were then little different from beasts.
"As slaves and battle servants, we gained the protection and recognition of the Dragons, which provided us with the opportunity to subsist and breathe in this world.
"Then, leveraging the internal wars between the Metal Dragons and the Chromatic Dragons, we Elves brokered between both sides. Seizing the opportunity in the Dragonfall War, the High Elf Wieldomon created the Dragon Mad Lock using Dragon characteristics, thereby securing victory. Henceforth, we officially ushered in a flourishing era for the Elves."
Even though these were well-known facts, the Elves below were still filled with pride and applauded loudly. In the eyes of the vast majority of Elves, the decline of the Dragons and the rise of the Elves were simply the workings of fate. They themselves stood before the wheel of destiny, merely giving it a gentle push.
But then, Elf Queen Arasya shifted the conversation, "But is that really the whole truth behind history?"
The elven envoys below looked at each other in confusion. This was their widely accepted history; was there something hidden they did not know about?
Yet Queen Arasya’s next words were startling, "No, we High Elves have never been creatures awaiting fate’s pity, but rather weavers and creators of our own destiny.
"From the very beginning, the internal wars of the Dragons and the subsequent Dragonfall War were orchestrated by us, the High Elves.
"Thirty-four thousand years ago, my ancestor Eugenie Moonbow received an oracle from Arlosh, the goddess of fate and war. Under the guidance and assistance of the Moon Goddess, she stole the Dragon Tooth Blade of the Platinum Dragon God and successfully assassinated Vorre, the eldest son of the Nine-Faced Dragon God."
"Ah?" The Elves, suddenly aware of this intrigue, erupted in an uproar, their faces etched with terror.
Was this something they were meant to hear? It even implicated their gods of Afando!
But what confused and alarmed them even more was the silence of the gods. Their Elven Gods had tacitly approved all of this, even if it brought some stigma upon themselves.
And soon enough, the doubts in their minds were answered by Elf Queen Arasya, "It was a successful scheme.
"The Nine-Faced Dragon God believed that Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon Queen, in order to frame Bahamut, had murdered her own brother, Vorre, leading to Bahamut’s exile, while she (Tiamat) sorrowfully left this world.
"From there, the epic saga of the Dragonfall War began.
"And we, the High Elves, lurked in the shadows, awaiting the opportune moment. Ultimately, we took advantage of this rift among the dragons to secretly create the Starlight Dragon Frenzy Shackles, finally gaining a much-needed respite.
"But a scheme is ultimately just that—a scheme. Its greatest uncertainty comes from its creators and executors.
"One day, Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon God, who had always been suspicious about the death of Vorre and sought the truth, received a secret invitation to meet from Arlosh.
"To ensure the success of the plan, our Moonbow clan acted as bait, cooperating with the Moon Goddess, who was disguised as Arlosh, to lure him to The Slaying King Star.
"Ultimately, through the collusion of Misiruien, the God of Mystlock, and the Moon Goddess, and at the cost of the entire Moonbow clan’s sacrifice—their lives forfeit—we succeeded in sealing the Platinum Dragon God on The Slaying King Star. We then used the Starlight Dragon Frenzy Shackles to obscure and distort his oracles, burying this secret.
"And so, the onset of the Dragon Ragemist was made possible.
"The era of the Dragons, therefore, came to an end."
Upon hearing this, the Elves below were silent. They all knew another well-known piece of history: the myth of the betrayal by Arlosh, the Goddess of War and Fate, against the Elven chief god Corellon and the Afando pantheon, and of her eventual stripping of all power and banishment into the Abyssal Depths by Corellon.
Although they did not know the specific connection between these events, they could guess what it implied and why the gods would silently allow Arasya to reveal this secret. Perhaps it was because the two great Dragon Gods had already left this world, and also because...
"But this secret, I fear, will soon be utilized by the ’Lady Arlosh’ we once revered, who is now the resurgent and powerful Spider Goddess, during a critical juncture in our war against the Drow, revealing it publicly.
"And with it, unleash the wrath of the Dragons, seeking revenge for her banishment to the Abyssal Depths."
David, perched on the parapet eavesdropping on the gossip, also widened his eyes slightly upon hearing the secret disclosed by the Elf Queen at the behest of the Elven pantheon.
He never expected there to be such a bombshell hidden in their history. If Tiamat were alive to learn of this, she would not hesitate to pay any price to have these despicable High Elves line up to leap into a volcano. However, sometimes the wiser one is, the easier it is to be blinded by minutiae, to be outsmarted by their own cleverness. After all, at that time, compared to the mighty Dragons in their prime, the Elves were so inferior they weren’t even worthy to carry their shoes; how could they imagine that these creatures, less significant than ants, would dare to commit such an unimaginable act?
Then, Elf Queen Arasya continued from the stage, "You may still be puzzled. Even if the truth is revealed by the Spider Goddess, with the rage of the Dragons as they are now, what threat could they possibly pose to us?
"But I must tell you another terrifying truth: even though the gods have confirmed that Tiamat and Bahamut were forced to leave this world, the divine mantles that split from the Nine-Faced Dragon God eons ago still remain.
"The portion that the Chromatic Dragon Queen bore was inherited by her successor, the God of Strength, while the portion of the Platinum Dragon God is currently held by the Scales of Justice and the Lady of Mercy.
"According to divine revelation, once these are reunited in one being, it will almost be equivalent to the advent of the progenitor of all Dragons—the Nine-Faced Dragon God.
"That would surely be... the beginning of destruction.
"And also... the end of days for our Elves.
"Many of you may still be skeptical, always thinking, with the enmity between the Chromatic and Metal Dragons accumulated over 30,000 years, how could it be easily resolved? How could they possibly join forces again?
"Even if one day they reunited, with their civilization having perished, who else could simultaneously wield the might of both Dragon Gods?
"Unfortunately, during the battle at Montero Coast two years ago for the rescue of the Moon Goddess’s Godchosen, Aria, we saw the presence of both Chromatic and Metal Dragons.
"Without the grudges and willful influence of the two Dragon Gods, they have begun to show signs of setting aside past grievances and working together.
"And by my god’s declaration, at least two Dragons have this opportunity right now.
"One of them is the successor personally cultivated by Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon Queen—the God of Strength.
"Perhaps, you may be more familiar with His other epithet.
"That is the Crimson Calamity, who single-handedly ended the Skanis Elf War and once plunged the world into a decade-long ice age called the ’Sign of No Sun’.
"According to limited battle reports, on the eve of His ascension, He faced a joint assault by five of the War God’s divinely favored champions. He instantly obliterated them with a single Dragon Breath and, upon the War God’s own advent, ignited His divine fire, stormed into Warrior’s Rest—the War God’s Divine Realm—and secured His dominion there, then as now.
"And the other is the offspring of this newly ascended Dragon God.
"He is our greatest threat and enemy in Elariya, as well as the main culprit responsible for the annihilation of our forces at the Battle of Montero Coast two years ago.
"He is the Second Crimson Calamity.
"The Red Lotus Nova.
"His name—
"David Uthos Sed Ponga!"
