Chapter 366: Chapter 234: Despicable Outsider Dragon (Part 2)

David glanced quizzically at his sister, Tania, who stood smiling, her head held high. Although some dragons postured for him, it was clear far more did so for his sister. Could it be that female dragons these days all fancy the delicate type like our old man? he grumbled inwardly. Truly, the times are changing; the spirit of dragons isn’t what it used to be!

His sister’s appearance had inherited more of their father Attilicia’s traits, while he himself leaned more towards the ’brutishly robust’ style of their mother, Pafila.

"The Clan Leader summons you. Come with me," the Blue Dragon guide said, reappearing before them.

David and Tania followed the guide, walking up the long, crystallized tunnel that had been carved out by a Blue Dragon’s lightning. They lost track of time until, finally, the view ahead suddenly opened up.

The upper court of the Blue Dragon Nest was teeming with dragons. At least dozens, perhaps hundreds, of Blue Dragons were arranged by size and seniority, either standing or reclining on the rocky peaks. Near the tunnel entrance leading downwards, many Hatchlings had also gathered to witness the spectacle. A particularly striking Blue Dragon, its body as imposing as a small hill, lay on the high platform of the Dragon Nest’s upper court.

David’s guess was correct: it was a...

Legendary Ancient Blue Dragon!

As David and Tania gazed unabashedly at this ancient Blue Dragon, it slowly opened its eyes. It scrutinized them for a moment before a slight smile touched its lips. "A week ago, I became aware of your arrival, you two siblings," it said. "What’s interesting is that I’ve never heard the names of Blue Dragons as strong and talented as yourselves..."

The observing Blue Dragons immediately began to murmur in surprise, discussing animatedly among themselves. The Dragon Guards on either side bared their teeth and advanced menacingly, their faces full of wariness, as if David and Tania had betrayed the trust and recommendation of the territorial patrol dragon who had brought them. If recommended Blue Dragons caused any disturbance in the nest, those who made the recommendation would also bear some responsibility.

David, too, was taken aback.

Damn, even Blue Dragons do background checks nowadays?

For a moment, David felt less like he was trying to transfer his residency and more like he was at a job interview for some shady, otherworldly corporation. He’d already passed the initial screening and was now facing the big boss directly.

Fortunately, David was prepared. He looked up, smiled calmly, and said with feigned frankness, "I apologize. My ’younger brother’ and I are indeed not native dragons of Elariya."

This declaration made the surrounding Blue Dragons eye them with even greater distrust. Due to various historical reasons, ’outsiders’ were often associated with deceitfulness. For Blue Dragons, who valued stability and order, ’outsider dragons’ were no different.

"We come from the Scimitar Mountain Range in the Anauroch Great Desert, on the prime material plane of Toriel," David continued. "During our travels, we encountered a large legion of High Elves. Surrounded, we had no choice but to dive into a Teleportation Gate they had erected. We then discovered that these High Elves had also established a colony on the Continent of Skanis. Forced by circumstance, we could only follow our instincts, drawn by the scent of storms, and fled south towards the Kutaro Desert."

At this point, David took a deep breath, as if making a solemn decision to ’reveal the truth.’ "Yes," he said, "during our escape and the ensuing battles, we killed quite a few High Elves. Even now, they might still have a warrant out for us. We heard of your renown, Lord Patrice of the Thunderstorm, and took the liberty of coming here to seek your protection. If you fear this might bring threats from the High Elves... my brother and I will leave this place immediately!"

Having said this, David poked Tania’s haunches with the tip of his tail. Understanding implicitly, Tania immediately put on a ’tearfully sad’ and dejected expression, then limped and trailed dejectedly behind David, like two ’stray cats’ about to be cast out onto the streets again.

Their forlorn yet dignified demeanor immediately drew sympathetic glances from a few female Blue Dragons on the cusp of their mating season and made the male Blue Dragons hesitate to speak. It was as if... as if their entire Blue Dragon community, out of fear of retaliation from the High Elves, had broken with Blue Dragon tradition and refused to accept two exceptionally gifted members of their own kind. This was like hitting the Blue Dragons’ collective nerve!

One.

Two.

This is going exactly as planned, David and Tania thought, inwardly celebrating their gambit.

"Wait," came the somewhat deep voice of the legendary Blue Dragon, Patrice, from behind them.

David and Tania immediately turned, their expressions artfully conveying hope.

"Stop pretending," Patrice said. "You two siblings truly would have been better off hatching in a Green Dragon Nest."

"HEH HEH," David and Tania immediately grinned, their expressions turning endearingly sheepish.

Patrice could clearly see through David’s ’reverse psychology,’ yet he found himself compelled to play along. Otherwise, if word of today’s events spread, his moniker, "Thunderstorm" Patrice, might lose its former brilliance. All the Blue Dragons in the Kutaro Desert would know that he, Patrice, fearing retaliation from the High Elves, had refused to protect two exceptionally talented Blue Dragons. And if, sometime later, another Dragon Nest sheltered them, it would be even more humiliating.

However, perhaps due to his long life, he wasn’t the slightest bit upset at being ’blatantly manipulated’ by these audacious youngsters; instead, he merely squinted his eyes and said with a smile, "Alright, you can stay in Olivalyres. But you two brothers, shouldn’t you first mention what you can bring to Olivalyres?"

David immediately reared up on his hind legs, flexing all his muscles like a bodybuilder from Blue Star. "I’m quite good at fighting," he declared. And quite good at eating, too, he added silently.

[Arrogance]

This statement immediately drew snorts of derision from a host of male Blue Dragons. There wasn’t a single Blue Dragon who couldn’t fight, but there were always clear distinctions in strength among them. Even before he had officially settled in, David had already been marked by several male Blue Dragons who also prided themselves on being formidable fighters.

"Hmm... then you shall temporarily serve as a nest guardian," Patrice said. "Familiarize yourself with the environment of the middle court. After a while, an adult dragon will take you to collect ’transit fees’ on the sea routes."

"You got it!" David immediately raised his head high, looking as if he were swearing an oath to protect Olivalyres to the death.

"And what about you, Tanias?" Patrice’s gaze then fell upon Tania.

Tania had also wanted to make a joke, but considering her unruly brother had already set a certain tone, she adopted a serious expression. "I am a high-level Mage, an intermediate Arcanist, a part-time Alchemist, and also a fourth-tier Element Master. I believe I might be suitable to serve as a mentor for the Hatchlings."

Hearing this string of titles ending in ’Master,’ the assembled dragons were dumbfounded. For a moment, utter silence descended upon the upper court of the Dragon Nest. The title ’Master’ was not used lightly, especially in Alchemy; those who had not completed their training could only be called apprentices or alchemists.

Even Blue Dragon Chieftain Patrice couldn’t help but sit up straighter. He cast [Magic Power Observation] and, through Tania’s silhouette, witnessed an aura of Mana Energy that seemed to blaze like a fire reaching for the heavens. He stared intently at Tania, his expression like that of someone who had stumbled upon a raw Sapphire right on their doorstep.

Wait a minute. Patrice thought. And what’s this even fiercer ’Mana Fire’ flaring from the one beside ’him’...?

Recalling David’s earlier claim, ’I’m quite good at fighting,’ the belated realization made Patrice want to curse. Instead, a wry chuckle escaped him.

This one really *can* fight.

For a moment, Patrice even wondered if this was a blessing from Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon Queen herself.

It has to be said, Patrice mused, as expected of Blue Dragons hatched and raised on the Toriel Prime Material Plane. Under the constant threat of the Dragon Rage, they’re far stronger than this bunch of unambitious ’trash’ in my own nest.

He then laughed heartily. "Very well! Starting today, Tanias, you will accompany Lefilia. Be a good educator of young dragons in the lower court."

"Yes!" The young female Blue Dragon named Lefilia beamed with joy.

But Kailor, the patrol dragon who had brought David and Tania, was aghast. "But Chieftain, they’ve only joined the Dragon Nest today! How can ’he’ be directly assigned to the lower court?"

Tanias frowned, clearly displeased. "Hmm? Are you questioning my decision, Kailor?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Not at all! It was just my impatience; I overstepped my bounds," Kailor quickly bowed his head, admitting his fault. His previously raised tail now drooped.

Kailor, frantic with anxiety, looked towards the goddess he had long cherished.

Lefilia... you mustn’t fall for that despicable foreign dragon!
