Chapter 90: Is this Heaven?

It had been a week since Bahamut’s phenomenon, and the vibe about it had yet to die down. In fact, it was even getting louder and louder as people got to know who had caused it. They wanted to know just how powerful he was currently and how powerful he would become after he reached Tier 2, which wasn’t very far off now.

The First Awakening was like that. It revealed and pushed the potential of the person to higher levels, depending on various unknown factors. All that was known was that any First Awakening that managed to cause a phenomenon meant that the person involved would become very powerful. There were even cases like the Black Fang Prodigy, who, after their first awakening, took only two weeks to reach Tier 2. Their awakening had caused a phenomenon, though much less "loud" than Bahamut’s own.

So, almost anyone who heard that Bahamut was the cause of the previous week’s event was highly expectant of just what he would become. And they’d already started betting on the time it would take him to reach Tier 2.

But that was their own problem. The person they were thinking about was somewhere else, doing something entirely different from what they were expecting.

...

Bahamut’s eyes fluttered open slowly. Light suddenly flooded his vision, making him close it again. After a few seconds, he tried opening them again. At first, it was a bit blurry, and all he could see was white and some dangling fruits in his face.

His hands instinctively moved to touch the fruits, while murmuring, "Is this heaven?"

A sharp and crisp sound echoed in the room as he was forced awake, only to find his hands tightly gripping Exildra’s chest. Her face was red, and she was fuming. Her palm was still against his cheek where she’d slapped seconds ago.

"Take your hands off before you lose them," she stated coldly, causing him to come to his senses. He swiftly removed his hands, but was still staring at Exildra.

Exildra stared back at him, as her eyes softened, but what he said next made her blush so hard that smoke was visibly coming out of her ears.

"Are you an angel? So beautiful..."

"You... you can see?" Exildra asked, trying to hide her blushing face, which was proving to be harder than meditating.

"Huh?...wait!" Bahamut rubbed his eyes and opened them again to see the golden-haired elven beauty. The only reason why he didn’t ask her who she was was that he recognized her presence.

"You can really see..." Exildra muttered with watery eyes, causing Bahamut to look at her in confusion. Just then, two other people barged into the room, causing Exildra to move away quickly, while still trying to hide her blushing face, forgetting that her long ears had also turned red.

"Sorry to destroy your lovey-dovey atmosphere, but you got to see something," Sel said with an exhausted exhale. His eyes looked droopy, and his face was a bit pale. Anyone could tell that he was tired.

Beside him was Elder Silvia, who just looked at Bahamut with narrow eyes, while Sel moved towards him, pushing a small box with tires.

"Are you alright?" Elder Silvia asked, her tone showing concern and anticipation.

"Yeah..." Bahamut answered while looking at her intently.

"I see."

"This is truly heaven..." he muttered, causing both Elder Silvia and Exildra to glare at him. Sel felt chills down his spine at this.

"Before you kill me prematurely, you need to take a look at this," he said, causing Elder Silvia’s glare to fall on him.

He swiftly pushed the box towards Bahamut, bowed at Elder Silvia, and disappeared as if he had never been there in the first place.

"Hmm... he has changed..." Bahamut murmured as his gaze drifted to inside the box. There, sleeping soundly was a pure white bunny he recognized instantly. Ren.

But he looked a bit different. His fur had gained a more luscious tone, which almost reflected the light. Two gold tribal-like lines run across his body, from his eyebrows to his tail. His body also seemed to be covered in a faint, colorful barrier.

"This..."

"I believe he also went through an evolution, and I can sense a powerful presence from him. Your pet is a Tier 2 beast," Elder Silvia said calmly, as her eyes followed Bahamut’s actions. He softly picked up the bunny and placed him on his lap while his hands caressed his fur.

’So he can be this soft too...’

"I don’t know when he would wake up, but you will be going on your first mission as my disciple. Apollonia will let you know the details. Just prepare for a mission after you fully recover."

With that said, Elder Silvia left the room in quick strides, her expression calm and collected. Though inwardly she was feeling faint and a bit scared.

’Those eyes...’

Bahamut, though, was oblivious to this as he stared down at Ren, who was breathing softly and sleeping without a care in the world. His gaze then turned to Exildra, who swiftly looked away, confusing him further.

"You look tired. You should rest," he said to her softly.

"You’re right. Take care," Exildra nodded, approached him, gave him a soft peck on the cheek, and left. "You should do something about your eyes..." she muttered halfway through the room, almost to herself, but Bahamut heard her.

"My eyes? What’s wrong?"

’System!’

PATH OF THE BEAST

B - Brutality of the BEAST

Bahamut couldn’t process what he was seeing. He couldn’t recall what had happened after he cultivated with the essence crystal, but he could feel that he’d changed... a lot. And the system was just confirming it.

"A chimera? Like in the myths?" Bahamut asked in confusion.

[Answering Host...]

[A Chimera is an amalgamation of multiple animals into a single animal. A chimera possesses all attributes of the animals it is made up of.]

’This explains it, but how am I a chimera? I’m not some amalgamation of beasts, right?’

[You are. Beast Trait Manifestation is a skill that gives you the ability to use the traits of beasts you killed, but that was only a surface-level attribute. The skill coupled with death intent, allowed you to store the souls and essences of the beasts you killed. Without their souls or essences, the skill would be just a waste. This led to you having multiple evolution paths, plus the special Chimera evolution.

Your concept also played a role in this evolution. It interfered with it and made you compatible with the chimera, making it the best race for you.

Because of this, the Beast Trait Manifestation skill has ranked up to the max. You no longer need to wait for minutes or hourly cooldowns to use beast traits, because you are all of them. Also, any beast you kill will be added to your collection. Because of this, a new levelling system has been generated for you. The more beasts you kill, the more you level up. As for the earlier leveling, it is now null. You can continue with all the cultivation and all that. They will just strengthen your foundation, but to level up, you will have to defeat and kill beasts.

And by beasts... Any living thing can be a beast.]

’Meaning even humans and the other races are beasts... Hmm. By the way, will I be able to turn into a beast? Like a beast form or something?’

[That should be possible, but you will have to discover everything on your own. As you can see, you are the first ever chimera, so your abilities and skills are basically unknown.]

’Understandable. Seems I got more to do.’

[And before you do anything stupid, I warn you to start slow. There’s a possibility of also having the personalities of beasts you add to your collection.]

’Ah, I see... What of Ren’s condition and my eyesight? I can see again.’

[Ren is just in hibernation to comprehend the first part of the technique. He should have formed his core, or be very close to forming it, by now. I estimate he will be waking up by tomorrow.

As for your eyesight, you aren’t exactly seeing normally, and you aren’t blind either. Your eyesight has become better with your evolution. Your current eyesight is a combination of all the beasts you are currently, and they adjust to suit your current surroundings. That’s why no one can look you in the eye now. They experience multiple gazes on them, and each is predatory.]

"What the fuck?!"

BOOM!

The moment Bahamut exclaimed, he heard a loud boom that shook the building, prompting him to sit up in bed.

"What the hell is going on?"

...
