The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 423: Reunited - I
One moment, Tristan was in front of me and I felt him touch me, the other, I was sitting on the bed that had once been occupied by my mother.
What had happened?
I stood up, looking around the room that I recognised very well, even though I had not been here for years. How long had it been?
It had not changed at all, but what surprised me the most was how I reached her. I was just a step ahead of the broken doors yet here I was inside...
Footsteps got my attention, and my heart raced. What was going on?
Someone entered, and I recognised him. It was Diwal and he was having someone in his arms.
I gasped and ran towards him. "Catherine!"
Diwal ignored me and brought her to the bed, putting her on gently before moving back. I crowded her space the moment he moved back.
"She’s quite shaken. I would give her time." He spoke from behind me, but I
did not pay any attention for him.
"Catherine?" I whispered, sitting close to her, but not touching her. My sister was shaking.
She had her hands to her chest, her knees drawn as close as she possibly could. Her eyes remained darting here, and they, not focusing on one thing which is scared me.
"Catherine," I called her slowly, " listen to me. Look at me..."
"Find me, dear one." I slowly placed my hands on her knees, applying pressure to them little by little, as gently as I possibly could not startle her.
I continued to whisper little words, letting her know that I was here and all had to do was follow my voice to get out of the fear she felt.
"I am right here with you, sweetheart. Everything is going to be fine. We are safe!" we were safe. Tristan was here. I saw him and I knew he touched me. I could never be mistaken about that.
He was here and everything was going to be okay.
My sister was safe.
Her eyes opened a little before they turned to me. I waited patiently, as patiently as I could.
"You.." she mouthed because I could barely hear what she wanted to say.
"You.. killed.."
Oh, dear God. Catherine had seen me that. I was still disturbed before I had done, but what had Catherine thought of that?
"I," I gulped and turned into Diwal, "the man is alive, yes?"
Surprised, he took a moment to answer me before he glanced at Catherine. "Yes."
"See?" I turned to my sister. "He is alive, just a little injured which he would be fine—"
"I know where you cut him, Genevieve. He died in front of me. You killed for me. You killed a man.." Tears welled up in her eyes. "You k-killed.."
I cupped her cheek. "Those were going to use my sister and sacrifice her. I did what I had to do to protect you. I would do it again, Catherine and I would not regret it. He deserved it."
She sniffed but it was only a matter of seconds before she broke down. Pulling her into my arms, I let her cry. I wanted to cry, but somehow I did not find it in myself. I felt.. numb.
Catherine’s body shook in my arms before it slumped. What happened? I pulled her back only to lose control of her and Diwal stepped in.
He took a hold of my sister’s neck and her waist before gently laying her over to her side on the bed.
"What happened?" I asked, watching him. "She was crying in my arms, perfectly awake and now she’s— she.."
Diwal cleared his throat and lifted something in his palm before showing it to me.
"What is that?" I questioned the small vessel.
"It is a smelling salt. I.. may have used it to make her fall asleep." he admitted, taking a step back.
I gasped. "You poisoned my sister!"
"No!" Diwal shook his head side-by-side. "I made her fall asleep. She was panicking and crying. She would be better once she wakes up. Slightly disoriented, but she would be better."
I scoffed. I looked at my sister whose face was finally free. She was deep in sleep I might say, relaxed. The fearful expression that my sister had on her face the entire time we had been here was finally gone.
She had fallen asleep like we had returned to normal.
There was absolutely no way I could have gotten Catherine to calm down the way the salt did and with Catherine relaxed and sleeping, I could think of something else as a priority.
I looked at my hands. they were slightly bloodied, making me rub them all over my skirts and think of something else to distract myself from the blood.
"What.." I turned to Diwal, my mouth turning dry all of a sudden. "What is going on? What happened?!"
"I want to tell you everything. But I cannot. I am here to protect you until his highness comes in." he confessed like he had recited it in his mind. In case I asked.
"And where is he?" Tristan had to be nearby. I felt him like he was around me. Maybe it was because of what I had been through, but I felt like he was closer than he had ever been before.
"Near by," He answered, "it is almost over and he’s coming as soon as he can. Just a few more minutes—"
Nearby? Minutes? I stood up, almost falling over with how my legs were shaking. Diwal reached over, but did not touch me. Rather waited in case I fell.
"Please, sit." He whispered. "Please, you cannot stand. Your body is still in shock."
It was..
"He would not like it."
I sat down on the bed. "Where is he?" The words left as a plea. Where was he? I wanted him like somehow he would make everything better. Somehow, he already had.
"Here, my love." Tristan answered, and I looked at him. "Right by you."
