The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 396: Catching up – II
The mention of my sister’s name had me panic inside my heart. I have been actively avoiding her line of questioning, and it seems that somehow, fate was hellbent on having me answer her.
My head turned into the direction of the door that just received a knock. Chiara gave them the permission to open it, and when Anna did, my sister walked in first.
"Evie!" She exclaimed before sitting next to Me, throwing her hands around me. "you left."
Handing the cup of my tea to Anna, I focused on my Sister. "I did. I had a few tasks to do. Do you not wish to go to bed?"
"I do not want to anymore. I am tired of staying in bed." Catherine whined then schooled her expressions as her face turned towards the other woman in the room, whom I had been talking to before. "I apologize for my lack of awareness. I am Catherine, Genevive’s younger sister."
Chiara bowed her head. "My greetings and utmost respect for princess Catherine. How have you found your stay so far in the Palace?"
"It has been absolutely amazing. Thank you. Are you related to the king?"
"I am. I am his only aunt. My name is Chiara."
Catherine brightened up. "Lady Chiara, It’s been a pleasure to meet you. How long have you known my sister?"
"Almost a year." Chiara answered dutifully.
"Ah," Catherine turned to me, "so almost the time that we have been apart?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
I nodded. "Yes."
Catherine turned to Chiara to talk, but the latter’s eyes remained on me. They were questioning. They were asking why I still have not proceeded with answering what my sister wanted to know why I still had not proceeded to fill in the blanks.
"Catherine," Chiara spoke softly and the sly look in her eyes made me sit up-right, "why don’t you use this opportunity to talk to your sister about what he wanted to know? Over some tea and cakes?"
Chiara, that—
I took in a deep breath the returning to my sister, and placing my hand over her shoulder to get her attention. "We don’t have to do it right now, unless—"
"I do want to do it right now." Catherine said, almost desperately. "I want to know a lot, possibly everything that has happened, because I have heard of a lot of things too."
Gulping, I smiled a little that hard before moving my eyes to the woman who I wanted no contact with now. She smiled back at me, innocently, before getting up and doing a courtesy.
"Allow me to leave the both of you to it. It is a private conversation between two sisters that I have no part to play in." She bowed again before leaving the room with Anna, who I know took something from the tea tray.
It must be the blood they used to make their blood tea.
Just as Catherine turned to me again, I stood up and rushed towards the station. "I shall make you some."
"Thank you." Her soft, trusting voice almost broke my heart.
She wanted the truth, all of it. How was I supposed to present to my sister the coldhearted truth of society? What men were capable of doing, an entire group of them to a single woman? But I had been through, and what Tristan had done after that?
Omission of truth.
Hiding and twisting it to the way it was presentable to the person and more acceptable. That was what Chiara wanted me to do but what would make me different from Anastasia?
"Genevieve?" Catherine’s hand on my elbow, brought me back to reality, and I turned to her with the cup of milk, still in my hand. "Is everything alright? Are you tired?"
Was I tired? I laughed. "Now, I’m not tired. Forgive me I was not... I was not present here for the moment."
"Oh," She replied with one word, and took the milk from my hand. She made herself tea, just the way she liked it. Then she picked it up and gestured to the seating. "Come with me?"
It was an offer, I realised. Catherine was giving me an option to come with her to talk about something else, rather than giving her the answer she was demanding.
It was my decision on what I wanted to do and tell her. It was my decision whether I wanted to disregard all of her feelings or take them into consideration and decide what needed to be done after that.
Dear God, I closed my eyes. It was going to be a very painful dawn which was going to be filled with painful memories, and then tears.
Give me strength, I prayed before opening my eyes and moving over to the seat.
Sitting down in lush seats, I sighed and patted the space next to me. "Come sit by me. It’s time I answer your question."
She squealed and with carelessness to the cup, sat in front of me, while placing down the cup on the table in front of us, making some of the teas out.
"No, please. None of that." I warned her. "It is very serious and... Unpleasant. I want you to prepare yourself from whatever I am about to tell you and brave yourself to hear it. If you feel that you have heard enough and cannot bear anymore, I want you to say it. Is that understood?"
My sister understood what exactly I was talking about and how unpleasant it could get. The previously happy expression on her face, changed to anxiousness and fear for what was about to happen and I did not blame her for it.
Then, I proceeded to tell her everything. From the beginning when I had left for the kingdom of Lethoris and how I had ended up meeting Sir Walter again in the library of every Palace. After which I told her how I was going to marry the current king.
