The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 392: A mentor - II
I waited with bated breath for what her reaction was going to be. It was quite a big dialogue, but it held every feeling that I had about this matter. It contained every little doubt I sort of could think of in it.
Everything was carefully poured into it that held importance to me in this matter.
It was hard to believe that Chiara was going to take it in the same way as I wanted her to. A lot had changed recently in my life and the doubts I did not have before were now embedded into my mind like they had been there forever, just laying dormant.
It was quite serious to me because this position was not something that was taken away and given to someone else like it was a plate of food.
The humiliation of the crown being taken away from you often followed by assassination. It was something one did not survive.
Dreaming of having it is one thing, but having it so close to me that I could reach out and take it was another. Nonetheless, it was frightening.
Chiara smiled so effortlessly that it made all of my hopes sink.
"I am happy that you did not leave out anything you felt and I can feel your relief as you finished." She chuckled to herself softly, and I felt like she even had a little laugh.
"Genevive," She whispered, leaning closer towards me, "I have lived longer than you can imagine so trust me, when I say this, you are the right choice because you spoke of everything that should matter when you take such a position."
"Not only do you not worry of people that you have never encountered as you say, you also worry that you will not be the Queen they wish you would be for them. That is more than what is required of you. You care about people that you have no responsibility towards and it shows me your character inside as a human."
Baffled by her answer, I continue to focus on her, not wanting to miss any underline reaction that she might have. Did she honorably mean everything?
She observed my face and got on to the confusion I still felt. "Most humans, even vampires, would never think twice before accepting a position like this. It does not matter what their credentials and what their bloodline are. What matters to them is they would have unlimited power and people at their disposal. Such a small doubt that you have tells us that we have found a true gem as a queen."
It took me a few minutes to understand everything that she had said. I had also just received a compliment from her.
Chiara was the woman who I understood as a hard and unyielding woman. Someone who expected results better than average and to receive a compliment from her was an achievement to me.
"Your doubts are appreciated." Chiara leaned back and turned herself into a woman who seemed formidable. "and I expected them. Had you not had them, I would have doubted the choice that the Goddess made for Tristan. It would be a crime, but it would be there nonetheless. Your training will start today."
"Today?!" I exclaimed. I knew that I had not accepted her as my mentor, but I did not remind her of that.
"Now." She stood up, and I followed but remained in my place, even though she moved around to stand in front of me. "There is no better training. You can start right away than revising what you have already learned."
My mind was blank, so I could not exactly pinpoint what she was talking about. I have to revise. What have I learnt until now?
"What are you going to do today, is face the humans that have had problems among themselves and what the local authority has been unable to solve. You will be showing them what you will do for the humans as a queen when you will be married to the king."
"To the humans?" I hesitated before adding, "what of the vampires?"
"Humans first. Their emotions are much more complicated." She turned to the door. "Irene, kindly hurry up and get addressed. It is time we present her to the people."
****
Irene was actually outside when Chiara had more or less screamed for her. She came inside with a lot of ladies behind her. The intention on her face was clear, she was making me much more than presentable.
After a long bath, where I had been cleaned thoroughly, I was stressed in the finest of dresses I had ever seen.
I noticed the designs on the dress. It was different, not something I had seen in the continent before which made me think that it was more native to the vampires.
Half of my hair was down. The style was simple and it complimented the dress well. Irene positioned my hair in front of the wound that was covered in white cloth. She had reapplied the paste and made sure that it was not going to slip out and stain the clothing.
The shoes had a little height to them which I appreciated. I was not very tall and any kind of additional height provided to me was very much appreciated.
When almost everything was done, Irene and Nandia were the only people left.
"Do you have any advice for me today?" I asked irene looking at her in the mirror and watching her as she fixed the dress.
She smiled and it was genuine. "I have heard of what you did for your previous country. You may have forgotten a few things, but you have been doing this for a long time. So if I must give you a piece of advice, it would be that you know what you are doing, you just need to trust your instincts."
I nodded along. Her words settled in my mind and were easily comprehended.
Trust my instincts. I was going to do exactly that.
