The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 343: A lovely walk - II
There was something different about taking a walk in the garden at night. The cold wind almost made me crave some hot tea.
Even before I stepped out in the garden, Anna stood at the entrance with a woolen shawl in her hands. Something made me think that it was Tristan behind the idea.
Anna wrapped it around me while Tristan waited very patiently. Now, he walked just as patiently as I looked around the garden.
"You had a brief stay here before your marriage. Did you not enjoy the garden then?"
He must have got me looking around every thing like I was doing so for the first time.
I thought of what to say. But then again, he would always catch me in that. So, there was no point in saying that.
"I was supposed to. I was supposed to be introduced to them by Terrance, but as fate would have it, but, I saw him, with his very pregnant mistress." I gulped. "Annastasia yeah said something very cruel, be nice court them for the first time. After that, I did not feel like visiting the gardens."
Especially the area with the bed of Roses.
"She made a comment about killing her and the child, preferably before the child came." Tristan sighed before he passed me a knowing look. "It would not be the first time she resorted to such extremes."
Ah, yes. The first time the idea must have entered her mind would be around when King Arthur had an affair with Tristan’s mother. But how has she failed?
"Did.." I hesitated slightly, but he gave me a go ahead look. "Did she try to kill you?"
"Yes, she did." he answered without missing a beat. "She was unsuccessful. Instead, she killed the king and my mother with him."
"How, your mother?"
Tristan waited and I was convinced that he was not going to answer me, but then he chose to. "When the bond is new, which it is for decades, if one beloved dies the other one soon follows."
So when Anastacia killed the King, she also killed his mother, and she did that unknowingly. It did make me wonder about the extent of her knowledge about the vampires.
"And she never sent assassins after you? Because if she did not hesitate to kill a child in the womb of a woman, she would not hesitate to do that either." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
He chuckled. "Indeed, she did. But they never came back after a meeting with my uncle."
"Ah." I nodded. Something told me that it was not his uncle Dawson.
In a little while of silence that passed in between us, I realized once again how comfortable I had grown in his presence. Instead of hearing him, I felt protected by him and to be protected by a man that had not sworn want to do so, it was a big change for me.
"Tell me what are you thinking about."
"I am thinking about how comfortable I have grown in your presence."
He smiled and turned his head towards me. "Is that bad?"
"Very." I swallowed thickly.
"Why so?"
I sighed heavily. "because you are the king, and that would make me the queen, and the Queen is supposed to be a—"
He gripped my elbow and turned me around, "—A kind hearted, intelligent and witty woman. Someone who can take the place of her husband and command the kingdom and the army. That is cool. A queen is supposed to be. Someone you are."
Tristan tugged me closer. "If you even think of mentioning what were you just about to say, I will punish you and trust me, you will never think you saying that again."
My body grew warm at his warning and I looked away. It was true. I gasped when he took a hold of my chin and titled my head up.
"Answer me," He commanded. "Do not make me repeat it again."
"I won’t mention it again." I rushed the words, eager to get away from him now.
"And?"
I huffed. "I will not think about them as well."
"Good." Tristan let go of my chin but his hand shifted from my album to my lower back. "Come now."
Silent and in shock, I kept on walking forward with my back straight. Was his hand going to remain there?
"Tell me," He said, "your favorite memory."
"A memory? Let me think about it." it definitely had to be from the time when my mother was alive and my father was more present.
A lot of them were perfect, but a few stood out.
"It would be from the time when.." I smiled as I remembered, "when my mother would take time out from her duties and bake us a birthday sweet. It was not exactly the best looking and even taste wise, but for me, it was the best sweet I ever had."
A little sadness creeped in. "Sadly, I do not even remember the taste of it."
"Have you never attempted to make it yourself?"
"No,’’ I looked down. "after she died, everything’s changed."
"I do not know how that is an irrelevant answer, but we did not have any more time to spend in the kitchen. Father had ordered the governesses to make sure that we were princesses ready to be married whenever the time was right." I gave him a melancholy smile. "not even a month had passed and he made it clear that he wanted us out the of Palace."
His hand rubbed my back. "He did not deserve you, evie. It is for the best that you are out of that country."
"Not when my sister is there alone." That was the worst that could have happened to the both of us.
"Hmm," he hummed loudly and pulled me close with his grip on my back. " I wish that someday I will receive the same loyalty and love from you."
With the way he continued, I feared that day was not afar.
