Chapter 309: Moments of peace - II

It felt different. Even though my eyes were closed, I could feel something was different, especially the bed that I was laying on. It was softer, even the sheets were softer And definitely more luxurious in nature than the ones at the house of Sir Walter.

That had me open my eyes in an instant and sit straight only to realise that I was, indeed, in the room that I had always been in the palace. The Queens Quarters.

Which meant that Tristan had brought me back effortlessly. Raising my feet to myself as I got around to get down from the bed, I was met with resistance. Only to find out that I had huge chains around my ankles and my wrists.

He chained me.. again?

I tried to sit as comfortably as I could on the bed with the change respecting my movements. They were heavy, but they were also long just like last time meaning I could easily use the bathroom if I wanted to.

He..?

No one was here, not from where I could see it.

For a minute, I wondered if Kristen would actually leave me alone in the room but then I remembered, there were heavy chains on me which restricted my movements just to the limits of my room. So, he must not be entirely scared of the fact that I could run away because that was not a possibility anymore.

"Ah," I heard, " you are awake. I shall go and inform the king. In the meanwhile, would you like to have something?"

Her face was something I could never forget. This was Anna, from the kingdom of the north, the kingdom of the wolves, the woman who had noticed me back to help after that unfortunate night.

"No," I rasped, But ended up coughing. My eyes did not leave the sight of the female vampire who went across the room and poured water in a gold goblet before bringing it to me.

The coughing was endless, giving me no option except to accept the glass that she had stretched towards me. Only then, when I had finished the entire glass, did I feel better.

"Good," she glanced at the empty inside of the glass. Her sharp red eyes met mine and she nodded, "The king has been informed about your regaining consciousness. He will be here soon."

My throat dried up once again as I continued to look at Anna, comprehending the situation at hand. Tristan was going to be here soon.

"He.." I.. what was I to say?

The doors open loudly, loud enough for my human years to catch and my eyes to dart into that direction. Just when I thought that Tristan had arrived, turned out to be Merelyn barging into my room.

She stopped at the edge of the bed, right in front of me. That’s when I noticed her body language. She constantly swallowed, her eyes widened and she had still fisted her skirt, not letting them go after probably the run that she had had up here.

"You." She hissed, shaking her head. "You! Out of all it was here! Why in the everloving world does it have to be you, Genevieve?!"

A frown gathered in between my eyebrows as I looked at her in confusion.

"You were happy, weren’t you?" She questioned. "You are happy that I finally found my happiness, my husband, someone I wanted to spend my entire life with! But you have to go ahead and ruin my wedding night!"

Ruin?!

"Yes, RUIN!" She yelled, making me jump where I was sitting.

"you ruined everything. You ruined my wedding, the celebration, you ruined my first night as an officially married woman. Do you have an inkling of what you have done?"

Oh my god..

while I was feeling guilty about what was happening to the servants and for what I had done to Tristan, I had completely forgotten about my dearest and longest friend, Marilyn.

The event that provided me the opportunity to drug all of them was her marriage, the celebration of her becoming a wife and finding her love to someone which I had ruined completely.

"Why did it have to be you out of everyone else, Genevive?" She cried and I saw a drop of blood dripping from her eye. "why did it have to be my friend and everyone else in the world that would have conspired against me?"

I licked my life, trying to find the words that would provide her with an explanation and the comfort she desperately needed. But the sight of her crying, with her fangs out and blood coming out of her eyes rendered speechless.

I was scared, if I say so. I was scared of my friend and what her wrath could result in because I had previously been a victim of her hunger.

"Lady Marilyn," Anna stepped closer to my friend, " maybe you can choose to continue this conversation sometime later. For now, she has to hold an audience with the king."

At the name of the king, my friend calmed down significantly. Yet she did not look away from me. As if thinking about something else, Marilyn finally looked away, probably concluding whatever she was thinking about and nodded to Anna.

"I do not think I want to continue this conversation ever again." She smiled at Anna and completely disregarded my existence, as if I was not there to begin with.

"When I came here, the king was still holding an audience with the people. So I think it will take him a few more minutes to be here." she informed the woman who was keeping an eye on me. "Perhaps you should give me something to eat and drink. Something to help her stomach what is going to go on from now on."

What? What was she talking about?

With One last smile given to Ina, Marilyn turned around and walked out of my apartment without so much as a glance through my way.

The moment the door closed, I flinched and closed my eyes. I had effectively ruined two relationships.
