Chapter 75: Getting in Gear (2)

Wise stared blankly at Aofie, watching as she angrily looked to the side.

"Now I’m curious, let’s go."

"No, let’s find another plac—woah!" Before she could finish speaking, Wise grabbed her arm and pulled her along with him into the shop.

They all paused momentarily as they were greeted by the vast collection of weapons before them.

Rows of unending weapons spanned from the doorway forward, racks and stands filled with various weapon types.

It was the richest collection of weapons Wise had ever seen. But he had still not found the cause of Aofie’s reluctance.

That was until the owner of the shop walked up to him from behind the counter. He had not seen him at first because of how short the man was.

The man was probably only as tall as his midsection. Even Esme, the smallest of the girls, was taller than him.

He had a long rich beard and a stout but muscular build, his biceps pushing against his shirt whenever he would flex his arm.

’A dwarf?’

Wise almost laughed.

The history between Orks and Dwarves was one that was more than a century old. They were enemies, but the reason for that had simply been a clash of philosophies.

Dwarves were the best weapon smiths in this world, and the battle crazed Orks loved durable weapons.

The issue was that the dwarves did not like their weapons being manhandled the way Orks do. So most dwarves decided to no longer sell them their merchandise.

Meaning the Orks were cut off from some of the best weapons on the continent.

Aofie glared at the man from beside Wise and the man gave her a dirty look of his own.

"Orks..." he spat.

"Dwarves..." Aofie shot back.

They were only saying their races, and yet the way they said it was fraught with more disrespect than a direct insult.

Wise stepped in front of Aofie and smiled at the man. "Silver Steel, Torin?"

The man nodded and began walking deeper into the shop. Wise followed.

But as he was going, he quickly added, "You girls should pick whatever you want, make sure it is enchanted and of high quality. Aofie, you should have some experience."

Thankfully, Torin did not forbid Aofie from grabbing a weapon for herself, at least for now.

"If you came looking for me with that name, then I’m assuming you want some of the best merchandise I have," Torin said as they went deeper into the shop.

There were many beautifully crafted weapons all around him, but all Wise spared them was a simple glance.

He then nodded and said, "I hear you specialize in Silver Steel, that is my main interest today."

Silver steel was not made of silver or steel. Instead, it was made up of a certain ore that was incredibly difficult to find.

The ore, called Damanitium, was not only one of the strongest things on the continent, it was also extremely good at taking enchantments.

Hence its price...

The dwarf nodded and finally came to a stop. In front of them was a row of some of the finest weapons Wise had ever seen.

On the top shelf was a large claymore, a broad blade with runes lining its center. The blade had a silver-blue colour that caught the light, and the runes shone a soft silver, like stars in the expanse of night.

Below it, the name of the weapon was inscribed in the common tongue.

—Siege Breaker

Wise’s eyes drifted to the next blade. A slim black rapier with a dreadful tip and diamond encrusted handle.

The blade was simple, there were no unneeded adornments, the diamonds only being present as a conductor of Spiritual energy.

—Night Slayer

It was a fine blade, but it was not for him.

Once again, his eyes moved over to the next weapon and to his surprise, it was a Nunchuck called reliquem.

Wise picked up the paper and read through the details.

—Enchantment, Kaboom.

Wise glanced at the dwarf but he looked away in embarrassment. "My daughter’s doing..."

Chuckling lightly, Wise glanced at the weapons for the last time.

These were all high tier weapons, but—

Wise placed the card back on the desk and turned to the Dwarf. "When are you going to show me the real deal?"

A nervous smile appeared on Torin’s face, as sweat slid down his forehead. "You did your homework didn’t you? Alright, I’ll show you."

He glanced around to make sure no one else was watching, and then he reversed the position of the Claymore.

Once he did, there was a soft clicking sound, and then the entire wall turned to the side, creating a doorway that led to another room.

Wise and Torin both went through, and then the wall slid back into place, leaving them in the dark.

The lights came in seconds later, and Wise smiled ear to ear.

The only reason he knew about this was because his sword master had a sword crafted by Torin. That was how he knew that there were far better options hidden somewhere.

And he was right.

Unlike the store that had an endless amount of fine weapons, there are only three weapons in this room, each of them kept in a glass case underneath shimmering lights.

The first was a cutlass, a weapon favoured by the dwarves due to its heavy impact and short design.

The second was twin daggers, one black and the other silver, the Yin and Yang blades.

But Wise had no interest in any of them. The third blade however—had fully stolen his attention.

It was a longsword with a silver blade that gleamed underneath the lighting. There was a faint blue hum throughout the sword, and its black handle was highlighted with gold.

Wise read the name of the weapon as well as the enchantment, then laughed lightly.

—The Sun Blade.

"I’ll take it."

The Dwarf frowned. "You haven’t even heard the price."

"It doesn’t matter does it?"

The dwarf slowly shook his head. "That is my most expensive blade. It costs five hundred gold pieces."

Wise paled. "F-five hundred?!"

’What a scammer!’

Torin smiled and was about to take the blade from his hand. "Don’t worry, I’ll show you the cheaper options."

He grabbed the blade and pulled, but Wise clung onto it like a leech.

"Come on, let go!" He dragged it once more but Wise did not budge.

"Cheaper options my foot! I can never leave this sword!"

"Then pay me!" The dwarf complained, still unable to yank the sword out of his hands.

Wise had left his mansion with a good number of gold coins, and he also had his reward from winning the tournament.

He was not broke yet, but if he spent all that money on his sword and then paid for the girl’s weapons... he would be on the fast track to being poor.

Except he could miraculously go back and get more coins from his house... which was not plausible at this point.

Wise sighed and looked the dwarf in the eyes, his expression serious.

"Old man, let’s make a deal."
