The Prince Wants to Assassinate Me Every Day-Chapter 1058 - 649: A Chance Encounter with an Old Friend (Fourth Update)
Inside the inn.
An Ning was planning to leave with Guan Yu.
Guan Yu was still carrying An Ning’s medicine box.
Just as the two were about to leave, they saw a group of officials suddenly arriving at the inn’s entrance.
An Ning frowned.
So many officials suddenly coming to the inn...
An Ning led Guan Yu to one side instinctively to avoid blocking the way.
As soon as the officials entered, they shouted at the innkeeper, "Innkeeper, bring out the best tea and refreshments, quickly!"
"Yes, yes, sir, coming right up." The innkeeper promptly went to prepare the tea and refreshments.
Soon after, a woman entered through the inn’s door.
She was accompanied by even more officials.
Clearly, they were there to protect her.
An Ning stood nearby, her lips tightly pressed.
She hadn’t expected to meet Feng Xiyun outside the palace.
Unexpectedly, the first familiar face she saw after half a year was hers.
She wore a light purple gown and sat at one of the dining tables, encouraged by an official.
The table was already prepared with tea and refreshments.
The innkeeper was about to pour tea for Feng Xiyun when an official hurriedly took over and poured the tea personally.
"Lord Governor, you’re too kind." Feng Xiyun said politely, "I can manage myself."
"Doctor Feng, it’s only appropriate. You’ve traveled thousands of miles from the palace to save our people in Changmen County, and I am truly grateful. To rescue the people of Changmen County, I am willing to do anything to thank Doctor Feng." The governor spoke passionately.
"It is the responsibility of each individual for the rise and fall of the nation." Feng Xiyun smiled serenely, "Lord Governor, there’s really no need to be so courteous. Besides, I am not certain I can treat the illness; I need to see it first to know."
"Doctor Feng’s medical skills are superb; it will certainly be possible." The governor complimented. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Let’s not draw conclusions now; I wouldn’t want to disappoint Lord Governor, nor His Majesty." Feng Xiyun said, "Let’s head out after tea. By the way, why didn’t Lord Wu come in for tea and a rest?"
"Lord Wu said he would check the road conditions to Changmen County first."
"Alright."
Feng Xiyun nodded.
She gave an impression of being agreeable and courteous, without any airs.
An Ning didn’t linger for long either, leaving the inn quietly with Guan Yu.
Thus, there was no need to investigate or speculate further.
The epidemic in Changmen County had been reported to the court, and current actions toward Changmen County were likely orders from Xiao Jinxing. Now, Xiao Jinxing entrusted Feng Xiyun from the palace to treat the epidemic.
Isn’t he worried that Feng Xiyun could inadvertently die here?!
Or does he truly trust Feng Xiyun’s exceptional medical skills?
An Ning left the inn.
She and Guan Yu mounted their horses.
Just as they mounted, they saw Xiao Wu leading a group of people, riding swiftly toward them.
Xiao Wu, being Xiao Jinxing’s personal guard, how could he simply be handed over to Feng Xiyun?!
An Ning grasped the reins, "Go!"
She rode past Xiao Wu without hesitation.
She was indeed fortunate to have considered disguise beforehand, otherwise this meeting would be exceedingly awkward.
Xiao Wu glanced at the person passing by, feeling a sense of familiarity, and yet it seemed like an illusion.
He didn’t give it much thought, dismounted, and walked into the inn.
An Ning and Guan Yu rode swiftly to Changmen County.
Before reaching the city gate, they were surrounded by several officials.
"Get down!" the officials threatened.
An Ning gave Guan Yu a look, and they both dismounted.
"Sir, we need to go to Changmen." An Ning spoke, her voice altered to a male tone.
"Changmen is currently off-limits."
"Why?"
"Don’t ask too many questions! Seize them!" The officials, indiscriminate, directly tried to apprehend them.
"Sir, what have we done wrong? Even if we’re not allowed into Changmen, you can’t just arrest us!"
"Stop talking! Take them away!" The officials restrained them.
"I am from Langzhong." An Ning shouted, "I’m here to treat the people inside Changmen."
The officials paused.
"I’m aware the people inside are afflicted with an epidemic, so I’m going inside to help treat them."
The officials seemed not to have received any such notice, turning to another official, "Did you receive any notice that someone from Langzhong would enter the city today?"
"No, the only notice was that today the Lord Governor would bring an Imperial Physician from the palace to Changmen for treatment." The official was equally baffled.
The two turned to look at An Ning.
Clearly, they didn’t view An Ning as an Imperial Physician.
"I’m not an Imperial Physician, but I truly am from Langzhong. Let me in, I can cure the epidemic." An Ning explained.
"No, without permission, no one can enter. Detain them..."
"Officers, the people inside Changmen are suffering immensely, dying in large numbers every day, doesn’t it affect you?! Let me in, I really can cure them! Even if I fail, it costs you nothing!" An Ning said loudly, "You’re afraid of further infections by not allowing entry, but if I’m not afraid, what are you afraid of?!"
The officials seemed somewhat swayed.
An Ning continued, "Capturing us is only to prevent us from disclosing the quarantine at Changmen; thus, anyone approaching Changmen County must be detained until the epidemic ends before being released. If we enter the city gates of Changmen County, with strict guards barring even a fly from entry, we naturally couldn’t exit, nor could we send out messages!"
The officials observed An Ning’s eager demeanor.
Listening to An Ning, "Letting me in doesn’t affect you at all but has a tremendous impact on those inside; I can truly cure them!"
The officials glanced at each other, settling into silence, until one spoke with goodwill, "It’s not that we don’t let you in, but letting you in means you truly can’t come out. Many people from Langzhong came half a month ago but couldn’t control the epidemic and are still quarantined in Changmen County. Now, the court has dispatched an Imperial Physician, and all hope in Changmen County rests on this skilled physician. What’s the point in you entering now?!"
"Thank you for your kindness, sir." An Ning expressed gratitude, "But a healer’s duty is to save lives; since we’re here, we cannot ignore it!"
The officials, witnessing An Ning’s determination, glanced at one another.
Changmen County has been quarantined for a month.
Numerous deaths occur daily.
If someone could truly cure the epidemic, they’d be overjoyed.
They’re merely afraid of adding casualties.
"Since you’ve spoken to this extent, we’ll let you in; once inside, you can find Lord Liu Wenming and explain you’re from Langzhong, he will make arrangements." An official agreed reluctantly.
