The Prime Minister Seduced Me to have Babies!-Chapter 769: I Live by My Own Abilities
Yun Jiao noticed that Wanyan Zhang glanced over in this direction, and she immediately shut her mouth.
The atmosphere in the great hall had somehow become lively.
Yun Jiao’s seat was at the top; all she had to do was lift her eyes, and she could take in the entire scene of the great hall.
However, she kept her head lowered, not daring to look. She listened to the sound of strings and flutes, along with various clamor, just wanting to leave this place quickly.
But she also knew that this banquet was unlike any she had attended before; she couldn’t leave just because she wanted to.
Yun Jiao suddenly sensed something and unconsciously looked up.
Not far away, Ling Wei was being held in the arms of a man, yet her eyes were fixed on Yun Jiao, and even from this distance, Yun Jiao could feel the hatred in them.
Yun Jiao’s gaze hardened, and she immediately looked away.
Just then, Lin Shishi came over from Wanyan Zhang’s side, bent down, and whispered, "The Second Prince asked if you’re unwell, why aren’t you eating?"
Yun Jiao just wanted to leave quickly and said, "I’m not feeling well, I’d like to return to the tent to rest."
Lin Shishi nodded, "I’ll go tell the Second Prince."
She went over and said a few words to the Second Prince, then quickly came back to Yun Jiao and said, "The Second Prince permits you to go out for a walk, to get some fresh air, but you can’t leave now."
"The Second Prince also said that the city gates have already closed, you can’t return to the camp, and you should rest at the traveling palace tonight."
Yun Jiao sighed, stood up, and walked to the side door, and exited through the side hall.
Outside, the evening breeze was slightly cool, and the moonlight was like water.
Yun Jiao raised her head to gaze at the full moon in the sky.
She wondered if someone in Xiang City was also looking at this moon.
"Yun Jiao!" a sharp voice behind her interrupted her thoughts, and she slowly turned around to see Ling Wei glaring at her with a face full of hate.
Yun Jiao didn’t quite understand where Ling Wei’s hatred came from.
She had never targeted Ling Wei, nor had she offended her. When they were both at the Duke Mansion, they had almost no contact except occasionally exchanging greetings.
She looked at Ling Wei and said indifferently, "Is there something you need?"
Ling Wei became even more infuriated by her calm demeanor; she pointed at Yun Jiao and said, "Why? Why do you have it so good?"
"All of us are as low as dogs, so why can you still stand high above?"
Even though they were in the same great hall, these women were there to accompany the guests and provide entertainment.
Yun Jiao was different; she had her own seat, with maids serving her.
And her position was high above, clearly as an honored guest.
In Great Chu, aside from the Grand Empress Dowager and the Emperor and Empress having seats, even those officials had to stand in the hall without a place to sit.
What right did Yun Jiao have?
Yun Jiao looked quietly at Ling Wei for a moment and said calmly, "Why?"
"Because I am not like you. Your former positions of power came from the authority your families had. Therefore, when your families lost their power, you lost everything."
"As for me, I’ve always relied on my own abilities to live."
Ling Wei was stunned for a moment and then suddenly began to cry. At first, tears fell silently, but then she burst into loud sobs.
She knew that Yun Jiao was right.
She lived well because she had more ability than they did.
She earned respect through her own talents, not by pleasing men.
