The Prehistoric System in the world of Fantasy-Chapter 178: Li Liu’s outburst
"It's completely a berserk-type beast..." Lin Fang couldn't help but be awed by its skills, "You aren't a Mythic grade demon for nothing, after all..."
But soon, his attention was once again grabbed by the system notifications, the rank upgrade.
Lin Fang straightened slowly. Without system access… he would lose the shop, inventory functions, item storage, summoning, and even communication with Tiamat. Only Alpha's blessings and the legacy skills passed through his body would remain usable.
Should he purchase everything beforehand and proceed with the upgrade? He wondered that for a moment, but then thought, what's the use when the inventory will be locked. And it is not safe for those items to be placed in storage rings.
Adding on top of that, he cannot send his monster companions to the pet inventory either. Nebula is fine, but having Xuan Hei with him will bring attention, and not having it is the same as feeling insecure.
He sat silently for a moment. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Nebula, still adapting to her new strength, leaned toward him. "Master? Is there a problem?"
"Not a problem," Lin Fang said, though his voice carried a contemplative weight. "Just a choice."
He looked at his two companions and let out a deep sigh, "Fine. If it comes to that, I will stay indoors and waste the time..."
He pressed accept.
"Begin the upgrade."
A soft chime echoed in his skull.
*Ding!
[System upgrade initiated.]
[All functions offline for 48 hours.]
[Please wait until completion.]
The holographic interface dissolved like dust caught in the wind.
And then—for the first time since his awakening—his mind went silent.
No system windows.
No coin counters.
No shop.
No summoning inventory.
Whatever came directly from the system was sealed away.
Even the faint hum of Tiamat at the back of his consciousness faded, as it was a system-assigned guardian spirit.
Only Alpha's calm, ageless voice remained.
"It has begun," Alpha said.
Lin Fang exhaled the tension from his chest. "48 hours, huh… Not a long time, but I hope Myra won't come back and trouble me this soon..."
Well, at least the bed was soft.
With the system's silence settling around him like a heavy curtain, Lin Fang stretched his legs and glanced at Nebula.
The demonic beauty still sat obediently on the edge of the bed, aura dense and newly sharpened from the feast of spirit cores. Her long hair spilled over the hotel robe like molten ink.
"For the next two days," Lin Fang told her, "We stay here and do nothing."
Nebula nodded with an almost childlike seriousness. "Nebula will guard Master."
Lin Fang pinched the bridge of his nose.
She meant well, but a seven-foot woman with a demon's curves wrapped in a hotel robe was… not exactly subtle. He opened his phone and browsed a clothing app before settling on the largest T-shirt and sweatpants he could find—XXXL, the kind used by heavyweight fighters. With express delivery, the order arrived before sunrise.
Nebula emerged from the bathroom wearing the clothes with an uncertain look, the T-shirt hanging off her frame like a curtain that barely managed to contain her presence.
"Comfortable?" Lin Fang asked.
Nebula tugged the hem. "Honestly, No. But if it pleases master, Nebula will get used to it."
Lin Fang could only sigh at that and didn't say anything. He can't let her stay naked. After entering level-30, her beauty has only become further alluring to the point that he believes she could seduce any man with just a gaze.
But since he wasn't going out, he didn't forbid her to suppress her horns and tail. When she displayed them, it reduced Lin Fang's attraction to her, as now, they could constantly remind him that it is a demonic monster, not a human being...
The rest of the day slipped by quietly. Lin Fang sprawled on the couch with the TV remote, cycling through channels without absorbing any of them. In his other time, he talked for hours with Li Liu and a few calls with Zhi Yan, which are mostly business calls...
It was the first time in days he had nothing to fight, nothing to plan, nothing screaming for his attention. The silence felt strange, like a world suddenly lacking background music.
Nebula sat on the floor nearby, watching him with a protective calm. Xuan Hei curled up beside her, snoring softly in its pup form.
When dawn finally crept into the room, it felt almost domestic.
By late morning of Day 3 in the hotel, when more than 30 hours had passed since the update, Lin Fang picked up his phone as Zhi Yan called, as she and Li Liu just landed at the airport.
"Just tell the cab driver, Hotel Pearl Blossom. It's a pretty big hotel. He will take you here. And Room 4007," Lin Fang replied. "I will be waiting..."
"We'll be there."
Roughly an hour later, a bell ring was heard.
Lin Fang got down from the couch and went ahead to open the door.
As soon as the door swung open, Li Liu burst inside, eyes shining with excitement and worry.
She didn't even give him time to speak—her hands cupped his cheeks, and she leaned in to kiss him with the relief of someone who'd held her breath for days. Lin Fang stiffened in surprise for a second before gently returning the gesture.
She breathed. "You scared me a lot when you said some powerful enemy is out for your blood."
Zhi Yan's face turned uncomfortable, watching them kiss, but she ignored it and calmly followed her in, more composed but with a relief she didn't bother hiding. "It is a thing of concern, indeed, Classmate Lin. Shadow Guild is dangerous and carry henious reputation across the continent."
While speaking those words, her gaze swept the room—and landed immediately on Nebula, who stood tall in her oversized shirt, calmly observing them with crimson eyes.
Zhi Yan blinked, processing the sight.
She commented, "Greetings, Nebula."
Nebula inclined her head politely. "Hello."
Zhi Yan raised an eyebrow. "You arrived early."
Nebula nodded, clasping her hands and staring at Lin Fang with affection. "Master summoned me that night. I was the one he turned to when he needed me. How could I refuse?"
"Needed her in the night? For what?" As Li Liu let go of his embrace and stared at him questioningly, Li Fang hurriedly waved his hands. "You misunderstand. I have enemies, you know. So, I just summoned her to protect me."
Nebula beamed with a nod. "That's right. Now, I'm far stronger than before. I can protect Master even while we travel into the wilderness in the future. And if he needed to fill his arousal, I would be there anyway."
*Cough*
Lin Fang felt like he coughed up blood at her declaration. "Nebula… stop messing around." He turned back to Li Liu, "Liu'er, don't take her words seriously. She always spouts that nonsense..."
Nebula blinked twice and said, "But I didn't say nonsense, though. I am strong, and yesterday, Master was aroused so many times."
"Aroused..." Li Liu's lips twitched, and her gaze sharpened.
"Nebula, shut up..." Lin Fang comically shouted at her and then looked at Li Liu, grabbing her hands, "Liu'er, nothing happened, I swear. Nebula was just that way… that's all."
Li Liu snorted, "I know that you are loyal, but getting aroused because of a monster…" Her eyes looked like she felt a bit disgusted at the thought. "I didn't expect you to be into such a thing..."
Lin Fang felt like his soul left his body. As if the fire wasn't enough, Nebula chirped from behind. "It's alright if Master is into monsters, I don't mind giving birth to Master's children..."
Li Liu's gaze sharpened, and she crossed her arms, staring at Lin Fang. "Look, your Nebula is ready to be the mother of your children… Go ahead and breed with her. You won't be the first one anyway. There were a few who had slept with dragons in the past… I'm leaving..."
As she turned around to really stride past Zhi Yan and left the room, Lin Fang hurriedly went and grabbed her arm, stopping her.
Lin Fang then softly said, "Don't you know how much I love you. Why would you think like that? Nebula always speaks like that. It's not like you don't know her."
Li Liu freed from his grip and almost shouted at him, taking him by surprise… "I don't care about her. You didn't hesitate to summon her to stay beside you, but when I asked, you said we don't need to come… It's just..."
