Chapter 139: The Trials of Xyl (Part-4)

"Neither the Association nor the military will be responsible for your deaths if you enter those danger zones," Feng Xiu declared firmly.

Then, he moved on.

"Third rule: Killing a fellow hunter is strictly forbidden. You may destroy their monster companions if necessary, but killing a human will result in immediate arrest and charges of murder. The entire wilderness is under continuous drone surveillance, with thermal scans and mana tracking. So don’t think you can hide in the shadows and get away with it."

A few people swallowed hard.

"Fourth rule: Sexual crimes — harassment, assault, or anything of the kind — will be punished on-site," Feng Xiu said, his tone icy. "Unlike murderers, such offenders will not even be sent to a military court for the trial. We will deliver punishment ourselves, according to the severity of the crime."

The crowd was dead silent now.

"Other than that," he added with a lighter tone, "theft, looting, and snatching are all allowed. I’m currently the head of this trial, and I’m saying that your identity doesn’t matter. Even if you are the son of a president, you will be punished right then, according to the severity of your crime."

That drew gasps and a few nervous chuckles from the listeners.

"Finally, as you know that in the wilderness, you’ll have to compete against the veterans from Camps 1 and 3. They’re licensed hunters and have far higher experience in battles and wisdom than you all. To balance that out, you, unlicensed hunters, receive twice the points for the objectives. And do remember that only Camp 2 has the store that will sell you the potions, map, and other things you need for survival. For that alone, veterans might target you. Hence, we recommend purchasing or renting a watch that not only has a monster alert detection function but also has an emergency SOS button to give a signal to us, which, of course, is the same as quitting this trial."

Feng Xiu paused for a moment and observed the reactions of the hunters gathered before him. The murmurs increased alongside the low growls of the monsters. He took a slow breath before continuing through the megaphone. "Now, let’s come to the scoring system."

At once, the crowd’s attention sharpened. This was what truly mattered in this trial.

"For you all," Feng Xiu began, "a No-Tier monster (less than level-10) will not be worth any points. A Normal-Tier monster will grant you 3 points. An Elite-Tier monster, 20 points. A Commander-Tier monster, 200 points. A Lord-Tier monster, 3,500 points. A King-Tier monster, 100,000 points. And finally, an Emperor-Tier monster, 5,000,000 points."

He paused for effect, letting the last number hang in the air. The crowd erupted in murmurs — a few laughed nervously, others looked genuinely pale, especially at the last set of two.

Feng Xiu smirked slightly. "If you’re crazy enough to go after an Emperor-Tier beast and live, I suppose you deserve the score. But as I have warned earlier, I won’t recommend entering those danger zones. So, just keep your aim up to Lord Tier monsters only and leave those dangerous monsters for the experts, regardless of the temptations."

Then his tone grew firm again. "Your total accumulated score over the next six days will determine your Hunter Class."

He swiped his tablet and projected the table on the large screen beside him:

Bronze Class – 1,000 points minimum

Silver Class – 10,000 points

Gold Class – 100,000 points

Platinum Class – 1,000,000 points

Mythril Class – 10,000,000 points

Gasps and excited chatter followed — those numbers meant not just rank, but access to higher-tier hunts, guild invitations, and sponsorships.

Feng Xiu let them murmur for a moment before adding, "And one more thing — even if you don’t kill a single monster, as long as you enter the wilderness and survive the five days, you’ll still be granted your Hunter License. You could hide in safehouses or camp in the zones all you want. Survival alone is a qualification."

That caused a wave of relieved sighs. After all, not everyone chases to attain the class. If not for his debt, Lin Fang would do exactly that. But with an open dungeon lying before him, he had to earn as many coins as he could. Once he was debt-free, he could finally finish that pending order and also start creating dinosaur eggs.

"Now," Feng Xiu continued, "apart from monsters, the wilderness also contains spirit plants, rare fruits, and even mana ore mines scattered across the terrain. Their value will vary based on rarity and quality, and your points will be assigned during submission and appraisal."

Lin Fang folded his arms, silently taking note. While he doesn’t care about Spirit plants, ores are important. Also, with his inspection ability, high quality spirit plants and herbs.

"As mentioned on the website, the Top 10 Rankers will receive exclusive rewards accordingly."

He paused and then smirked. "But there’s something we didn’t mention publicly."

The crowd hushed instantly.

"If anyone from this camp — Camp Two — manages to place in the top 10, the reward they receive will be doubled. Class rank remains the same, but credits, equipment, and items will all be doubled."

The hunters exchanged eager looks; the competitive spark flared across the field. Even Lin Fang raised an eyebrow. A hidden incentive... interesting.

Feng Xiu held up a black pouch in his left hand. "As for your scoring validation, you must bring back the heads of the monsters you’ve killed. Each head counts as your proof of kill. Every Spirit Core of a monster is worth three times the score of the monster itself. Hence, if you submit the core and the head of the monster, you can basically earn four times the points. However, unlike with the heads, herbs, or ores, submission of spirit cores isn’t mandatory. You can keep the core for yourself, too. The choice is yours."

Whispers rippled through the crowd again — this changed the stakes drastically. Some might risk their lives to secure cores now.

"To store your spoils," Feng Xiu said, raising the pouch again, "each of you will be provided a dimensional bag, bound to your ID. As they are bound, they are forbidden to be stolen by you or anyone. You’ll also have to return them when the trial ends. But if your points earn you a Gold class, the pouch can be taken with you."

He scanned the faces before him — some nervous, some determined — but no one moved.

"Good," he said finally, satisfied. "You have 1 hour to leave."

Within minutes, soldiers moved through the crowd, handing out the dimensional pouches one by one. They shimmered faintly with mana inscriptions and seemed far too small to store something as large as a monster’s head, yet everyone was aware of dimensional space technology. After all, dimensional rings are known to everyone. As pouches aren’t as compact as the rings and have high visibility, they can be considered a weakened version of dimensional rings and bracelets.

Once everyone was equipped, Feng Xiu pulled out a round, metallic device from his coat. Its core pulsed with blue light.

He placed it in the center of the field, pressed a button —

VVVVMMMMMMMM!
