Chapter 30 - We Won

Though it was evening, the night coming and the last rays of light casting a beautiful sunset, within Vladryl the atmosphere was somber.

From nearly each house wails of grief sounded, the streets were empty and every man who could fight had been sent to reinforce the army and stand guard around the village.

Within the building at the centre of the village, a meeting was being held in the throne room for the second time today but rather than the happy victorious atmosphere everyone had expected after the first meeting, sadness and fear filled the throne room.

Just like earlier, men in fine clothes and significant positions stood on both sides attentively facing the throne but the difference this time was that the throne was empty and four men who had been with them previously were no more.

Though the village's symbol of power was gone, their king dead, the people in the throne room looked up to stare at the individual second to him, the woman who held all the answers to their questions.

Seated on a mat at the foot of the throne, though this time dressed in a black attire and veil was the grand priestess.

She had her legs to the side and much of her thighs exposed as she faced the men below her, her image adding sexual tension to the room.

Despite what had just happened many couldn't help but get lost in the grand priestess's image and begin drinking in her sight.

Normally the woman exposed only her sizable potions of chest, so for everyone this was an opportunity to gaze at her smooth long legs whose sight was normally only reserved for those who became king.

"Grand priestess what happened at the top of the hill."

The words came from a man in fine silk clothes and a red tunic wrapped around his head, his eyes contained sadness but at the same time anger. It was clear his relationship with the past king had been strong.

All this while, the dark-haired fatale had kept her head down, her eyes on the staff which rested on her thighs but at the question from the man who had stepped forward she lifted her head and showed the smile on her face to everyone.

"We won."

These words had everyone freeze and set off a storm in their head, many wanted to scream and demand what the grand priestess meant by her words but they held their tongue.

It wasn't like the Grand priestess gave off a powerful aura or that they feared she would kill. No, it was most importantly the indoctrination of who she was, her connection to the spirits and the hundreds of years she had served the village.

Everyone in the throne room firmly believed in the spirits, the ancestors and the truth that the grand priestess represented them all.

Unlike younglings like Kalios who grew and formed their own ideals and doubts even daring to lie before the grand priestess, these ageing people had seen the grand priestess from when they were little till now, kings had come and gone, yet her image remained ever immaculate.

If this was not proof that she was a messenger sent by the spirits, then what was?

"Grand Priestess, what do you mean? Our king has been killed." The same man who had spoken the first time spoken again, his voice calm and full of reverence.

Unfortunately, despite the man's good intentions when the grand priestess turned her head to him, he held his throat as he found himself unable to breathe and collapsed to his knees his eyes full of plea.

"Who dare say Ark Pulmas was killed."

There was no pressure in the room, no deathly intent, the grand priestess's face was alluring as always, yet a man gripped his neck unable to breathe till finally he fell flat on his face and went still.

"His majesty fought the curse's aid and crushed him" the woman at the foot of the throne said turning to look back at the throne with eyes full of adoration."

"Our king battled the curse, its abilities were strong but in the end, he won, and after his victory, he was touched by the spirits and for a second given their sight."

"Our king wasn't killed, he gave up his life. He gave up his life for he saw a path which would take the kingdom to a greater destiny."

"Rather than hold onto life and rule, our king sacrificed himself to give us a better future, and no, he did not leave us leaderless.

As the hand of the spirits, he invoked his ancestry and gave us a king, one greater than all others and even him, a person who will lead Vladryl to this better future."

The grand priestess spoke in a calm tone, yet her words resounded through the hearts of everyone, making their hearts ring and blood boil.

Seconds of silence passed and then starting from one pious man, everyone silently everyone fell to their knees and thinking of a particular food she hadn't eaten in a while the grand priestess spoke amidst the holy silence, her voice this time a melody.

"All Hail Ark Pulmas. 21st King of Vladryl.'

"Ark Pulmas!!" a shout left from the people below

"Now All Hail the new king of Vladryl for by his hands we shall rise."

"All hail the new king of Vladryl."

Immediately the crowd below made this hail, a surge of energy was unleased throughout the village, its might forcing everyone to their knees just like the shout from earlier.

This power though didn't leave the boundaries of the village and when it finally disappeared, the men on their knees hastily got up looking around and at the grand priestess in confusion.

"Elders" she called out making a particular set of people look at her in attention despite the fright they had just been through.

"Go to the source of this energy, our new king has been announced,"

Shock appeared on the faces of all and bowing to the grand priestess, everyone rushed out, even those who weren't elders.
