The Path of Immortality: Starts With Creating Water Bear Gu-Chapter 495: Triggered Mechanism
“What a pity. All the treasures in the coffin must have been taken by Zang Tianyu. What’s left for us is only this Reincarnation Ancient Tree and the pitch-black coffin.”
Sensing with his soul force that the coffin was completely empty, Long Xuan was visibly disappointed. He turned his gaze toward the Reincarnation Ancient Tree, and his mood improved slightly.
Just acquiring one of the Ten Divine Trees—the Reincarnation Ancient Tree—was already more than worth the trip. He was quite content.
“Hehe! Lan Yan is dead now. That’s one less person to split the treasure with. Let me see what goodies he’s left behind.”
Di Xin waved her hand, and the storage ring on Lan Yan’s finger flew into her grasp. Upon sensing the contents within, her eyes narrowed.
Long Xuan could tell from her expression that the storage ring held a considerable number of treasures. After all, Lan Yan had raided countless tomb chambers and all his men were dead. That meant every treasure had fallen into his hands—his inventory must be immense.
“How about we split the items in this storage ring evenly?” Di Xin looked at him and asked.
“No time for that! Someone's coming down the tomb passage—we need to leave now!”
Sensing a large number of Gu Kings approaching from the passage behind, Long Xuan was alarmed. He dared not delay. He commanded the Heaven-Devouring World Toad to devour the entire Reincarnation Ancient Tree in one gulp, then dashed down another tomb passage.
From the broken mechanism behind them, far more than just two Gu Kings were on their way. Pretending to be Gu Kings would not scare them off. Their only option was to escape into a passage filled with traps and mechanisms.
That was the same passage Zang Tianyu had just taken. Long Xuan was convinced that this passage led to a path of survival.
Di Xin also sensed the gravity of the situation. Realizing a large number of Gu Kings were closing in, her expression changed, and she rushed after Long Xuan.
Soon after, a large group of Gu Kings stormed into the chamber. Leading them were the heads of the Jiang Clan and the Han Clan—the two strongest among the eight major clan leaders, far more formidable than Lan Yan.
Upon entering the chamber and finding no treasure left behind, both men’s expressions darkened.
“Damn it! All the treasures in the coffin have been taken by those two! After them! Don’t let them escape!”
The Jiang Clan leader chased after the direction Long Xuan and Di Xin had gone with lightning speed.
The rest, driven by greed, followed suit.
Clearly, everyone believed that the two who had fled were the ones who took everything. Long Xuan was being unjustly blamed, like a modern-day Dou E (a reference to wrongful accusation in Chinese culture).
Of course, Long Xuan had anticipated this reaction. That’s why he fled without hesitation. The intruders only saw the two of them in the burial chamber. Who wouldn’t suspect them?
There was no explaining it—no one would believe them. Escape was the only option.
Driven by greed, the pursuing Gu Kings refused to give up. Even knowing the new passage was filled with unknown and deadly traps, they charged ahead without concern for their own safety.
Eventually, the Jiang and Han Clan leaders reached a point in the tomb passage and stopped.
Looking at the numerous destroyed mechanisms on the ground, the Jiang Clan leader frowned deeply and said hesitantly, “The aura of those two vanishes here. Could they have triggered a trap and been annihilated?”
Someone in the crowd sneered, “Trying to escape us by recklessly barging through a trap-laden passage? It was only a matter of time before they set something off.”
“I bet they’re both dead now—wiped out instantly by the trap. It’s just a pity about the treasures they took from the coffin. Likely destroyed in the process too.”
At those words, everyone’s faces darkened. The Jiang Clan leader quickly turned to the Han Clan leader and asked with a frown:
“Old Han, you’re the most skilled with mechanisms. Can you tell what kind of trap they triggered? Is there any chance the treasures they had could be intact?”
The Han Clan leader stepped forward, examining the destroyed mechanisms closely. His expression turned grim, and he sighed:
“Looks like we’ve truly missed our chance. We’re unlucky—and so are they. They triggered one of those traps. There’s no saving them.”
He gave a bitter smile and shook his head.
“What kind of trap could kill two peak-stage Gu Kings instantly? Stop being cryptic,” the Jiang Clan leader asked anxiously.
“Forget about the treasures. You’ll never get them back.”
“You must abandon all hope. They stepped on a long-lost type of mechanism—one of the most feared by ancient tomb raiders. Once triggered, there’s no return.”
“Because the person who steps on it isn't harmed directly—but is teleported to an unknown minor world.”
“At the same time, the mechanism destroys the only entrance to that world after teleporting them.”
“In other words, anyone sent there will never return. No matter how powerful they are, they’ll be trapped there for eternity and eventually die in isolation.”
“That’s the cruelty of this mechanism—it has no countermeasure.”
“Ancient cultivators often placed such traps in their tombs to ensure tomb raiders never came out alive.”
“Those two are now in some unknown world, and the portal leading there has already self-destructed. They’re doomed—unless they have the ability to shatter space, which only a god can do.” The Han Clan leader gave a bitter laugh.
At these words, everyone’s faces turned even gloomier. They completely gave up on the idea of retrieving the coffin’s treasures.
Clearly, the treasures had been transported to another world. No matter how much they coveted them, there was no way to get them back. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
“Damn it! Of all traps, why did they have to step on that one? What bloody rotten luck!”
The Jiang Clan leader punched a stone wall furiously. He was on the verge of exploding. Those two had taken the Tomb Gurdian Treasure, and now it had vanished from their world. How could he not be enraged?
In a world of darkness, Long Xuan’s furious voice echoed.
“Goddamn it! Where the hell is this? Is this still the Gu Realm?!”
Looking at the unfamiliar surroundings, Long Xuan was utterly confused.
Not daring to recklessly charge through the deadly passage, he had planned to collapse the tomb path behind him.
Though it might not delay the Gu Kings for long, it would be enough time to escape into the Sou Gu Hut safely.
Who would’ve thought that Zang Tianyu, that old bastard, had set a trap? That undead scoundrel must’ve triggered a hidden mechanism.
Zang Tianyu escaped just in time, but in the next instant, Long Xuan and Di Xin saw a flash of light—and the next thing they knew, they were in this strange and alien world.
It was a total complete disaster.
