The Overnight Chosen Wife: darling, kiss me deeper-Chapter 615: First date
Chapter 615: First date
"Jiang Linhou, are you trying to die?" Han Xichen roared at the young man as he scrambled to cover himself up.
Yue slapped her forehead. Nothing had happened between the two of them last night. At least nothing that Han Xichen thought, anyway.
They had finished their movie and fallen asleep, but they had eased out of their clothes for more comfort while momentarily forgetting where they were.
"Dad, can we talk?" She pleaded, holding Han Xichen’s arm. She felt awkward talking to him like this but at least she looked modest enough in her nightgown.
Han Xichen frowned, glared at the young man, and pinched the space between his brows. "Fine. Don’t you dare try to run away."
He walked out of the room, the door shutting gently behind him with a click.
Yue finally let out a breath but she was in panic. "That did not just happen. We are toast!" She screeched.
Linhou held her shoulders. "Hey, it’s going to be fine." He assured her.
"Are you even listening to yourself? You know the kind of man my father is! He is going to kill you and then he will kill me!"
Linhou chuckled. She was exaggerating. While he wasn’t certain he would make it home in one piece, Han Xichen loved his daughter more than his life. There was no way he would do anything to hurt her.
They finally dressed and showed themselves before Han Xichen and his wife, who were waiting for them in the living room.
Xiaomu offered Linhou a sweet smile. "Xichen is exaggerating everything. Just relax, okay?" She pulled him over to her.
"Relax? This bloke brought his girlfriend for our approval, moments before he chose to defile my daughter under my own roof!"
Yue bit her bottom lip silently, knowing speaking up for Linhou right now would only get him in trouble.
Xiaomu chuckled with her sweet smile. "I’m sure that’s not the case. Linhou has loved our Yue since they were in diapers. Do you remember that time in the mall when he thought her hand would be a good snack?"
Han Xichen knew his wife was trying to make light of the situation but he didn’t find it as funny as she did.
Seeing as he was not flinching, she brought up a more intimate memory. "Don’t you remember that school dance in second grade? Well, at the time, Yue wanted nothing to do with other kids and would only hang around Linhou. He was her best friend, and she meant the same thing to him. For his class dance, he had to ask a girl to dance with him but it couldn’t be his sister. So Linhou asked the prettiest girl in his class. Do you remember how hard Yue cried when she found out? She didn’t know he had to ask a girl from his class and thought he had abandoned her."
Han Xichen’s heart melted. He had treated Yue to the chicken nuggets she loved, ice cream and chocolate and she was still upset. She had only calmed down when Linhou wrote her a letter to explain why he had not chosen her for the dance, apologized, and asked her for a dance of their own. Then the duo had danced the afternoon away next to the fountain in Jiang Xingyu’s backyard.
Xiaomu smiled thinking about it. "They loved each other since they were in their diapers. It only morphed into this kind of love over the years but it doesn’t make it any different. The fact is that they love each other."
Yue mouthed a silent thanks to her mother, seeing as her father was no longer raging. Even then, Han Xichen didn’t look fully convinced. He spared Linhou but when he asked Yue out, he was the first to protest.
It was meant to be their first date that evening, so she bought a new dress and changed into it at 5pm. She even did her makeup–which was rare. She had never been one to care about her appearance. She had been told she was beautiful enough times to believe it. That, and the fact that she took after her mother—who she had to admit was one of the most beautiful women she knew—should have assured her that she didn’t need makeup for the date.
Even then, she went through three makeup looks before she finally settled for what she thought would be subtle and perfect. Linhou probably didn’t like women who doused themselves in slabs of makeup.
Women.
She flinched at what she had thought of herself. Although she was in her early twenties, she had thought of herself as a girl most of the time. This was the first time she considered herself a woman, and the mirror agreed with her.
She was wearing an off-shoulder black dress that reached an inch above her knees, paired with pink shoes that matched her lipstick and clutch. Xiaomu had recommended this look along with her wavy hairstyle and she had to trust her. If anyone understood Linhou, it was his twin.
Taking a final glance at herself and ensuring her mascara was perfect, she made her way downstairs. Linhou would be here any moment now.
When she caught sight of Han Xichen in the living room, she faltered.
He glanced up and met her glance, then called her over.
She hesitantly walked over and took a seat next to him. "Do you need anything, dad?"
He didn’t answer her. "are you going out with Linhou?"
She nodded. Seeing the hesitance on his face, she was curious. "Do you have anything against him? I mean, aside from Tianxin. I already told you that was a farce to make me jealous."
"That, in itself, is questionable. Why would a man want to hurt your feelings just to prove a point?"
She bit her lip, not knowing how to retort to that.
Han Xichen patted her shoulder nervously. "You know how much you mean to me, right? You are the most important girl in my life. Apart from my wife, that is." he added in jest, making both of them laugh. Then he continued. "It doesn’t matter who you are going out with. Unless he loves you at least as much as I do, I will not approve of him."
She nodded in understanding. So it was not about Linhou being his friend’s son. She had been worried about that.
She hugged him. "You have nothing to worry about, dad. I’m sure no man loves me as much as Linhou does."
"You don’t know that."
She laughed. He was comical when he was being insecure. She had always known he was overprotective and that any man would have a hard time wooing her, but she didn’t think he would be this scared of her getting hurt.
When the doorbell rang, they both knew Linhou was there, so he stopped grilling her and opened the door with her hot on his heel.
He locked gazes with the little boy he had watched grow up into the man who now wanted to take his daughter out on a date. He knitted his brows. "If she comes back home with a single hair missing on her head..."
"Dad," Yue rolled her eyes and hooked her arm around Linhou’s.
He laughed at his overprotective stance and waved at them. It was going to be a wonderful date for her. He didn’t know yet, but a father could hope, right?
