The Only Spatial Ability User In The Apocalypse-Chapter 42 Thunderstorm
Sylas carefully sensed his space once again, confirming that the changes were real.
Before, the size of his space was only about that of a basketball court, but now it was roughly the size of two basketball courts.
However, what shocked Sylas the most was not the increase in size, but the additional element inside it. Previously, there had been nothing inside his space, like a void. He could only sense its size. But now, there was an additional element inside the space, and it was none other than soil.
Sylas was stunned by this discovery. Being able to possess a personal space was already an immense advantage, but now that there was an additional element inside it, a bold guess formed in his mind.
He felt that the presence of soil inside his space had something to do with the earth-attribute energy stone. So what if he found other ability stones, like water, fire, plant, and so on?
Sylas had a feeling that his space was not a simple one. It was not merely for storing goods.
What puzzled him was that he hadn’t absorbed the energy stone through his hand like Serena and Major Kyle. He had simply stored it inside his space, planning to absorb it later after returning to the safe zone. But it seemed that the space had automatically absorbed it the moment it was stored. This explained the increase in his strength when he was running back from the forest.
Sylas took a deep breath, opened his eyes, and looked outside the window. The rain was still falling heavily, accompanied by strong winds and thunder.
"By the way, Sylas, did you find the source of the mutated rats?" Dylan asked.
Because of the rain and chaos, everyone had forgotten to ask Sylas about the main reason he had gone outside the safe zone.
Leo and Serena also turned to look at him.
"Yes, I found it and already eliminated them. The source was in the forest. What about the mutated rats inside the safe zone? Are they all dealt with?" Sylas asked.
"Yes, all of them have been eliminated. Also, Shaun awakened an ability," Dylan said.
"Shaun awakened too?" Sylas said in a surprised tone.
"Yes, he awakened an earth ability," Dylan replied.
"An earth ability?" Sylas raised his brows in surprise yet again.
"The mutated rats dug too many holes underground, causing the soil to become loose. Some areas even started sinking. There was a lot of commotion, and at that moment, Shaun awakened an earth ability and immediately sealed all the underground tunnels dug by the mutated rats," Dylan explained.
"That’s good. It’s fortunate he awakened an ability," Sylas said sincerely. Awakening an ability in this apocalypse meant a higher chance of survival.
The thunderstorm continued throughout the evening.
Sylas went back to his room and rested.
When night fell, the rain finally stopped. However, no one was allowed to step outside without permission, so everyone remained inside the building.
Sylas later stepped outside the building and looked around. Everything seemed normal, but an uneasy feeling still gnawed at him.
Major Kyle summoned Sylas, Dylan, Leo, and Serena to inspect the surroundings. As awakened humans, they possessed heightened senses and were tasked with checking for any abnormalities within the safe zone.
"Everything seems normal," Sylas said, his brows furrowed.
They gathered on the rooftop of the tallest building and surveyed both the inside and outside of the safe zone.
"As a precaution, don’t let anyone use the rainwater," Sylas advised Major Kyle.
The next morning, before dawn, Sylas was awakened by a commotion. At the same time, a soldier guarding the building hurriedly knocked on his door.
"What’s going on?" Sylas asked as he put on his jacket.
"Many people fell ill during the night, and some are even transforming," the soldier said urgently.
"We need soldiers at the west building! Can anyone hear me?" a voice came through the soldier’s walkie-talkie.
"Major Kyle asked me to inform all awakened humans to come and assist him," the soldier added before rushing off.
Sylas could hear cries and screams from a distance. With his enhanced hearing, the sounds were clearer to him than to ordinary people. He quickly grabbed a gun from his room and rushed toward the nearest living quarters.
Dylan, Serena, and Leo also rushed out of their rooms and followed him, but they couldn’t keep up with Sylas.
Bang!
Ah!
"Why are you killing my husband?!"
"No! My son is not a monster!"
"Don’t kill him!"
Some survivors, unable to accept the reality of their loved ones transforming into zombies, cried and begged the soldiers to stop. Some shouted and caused chaos.
Bang!
Gunshots echoed through the living quarters, accompanied by screams and wails.
When Sylas arrived, the area was already in chaos.
Soldiers guarded the survivors with guns in their hands, ready to shoot if anyone transformed.
"Leo, try healing the soldiers who have fallen ill and see if they can be treated," Major Kyle ordered immediately upon seeing him.
Then he turned to Sylas. "Sylas, some soldiers have fallen ill and some have already transformed. I’ll leave the survivors to you. If anyone transforms, kill them immediately."
"Yes, Major," Sylas replied as he carefully inspected the survivors including the soldiers for any signs of abnormality.
Sylas glanced toward another room where the ill were being kept. They were burning with fever, and some were slowly transforming into zombies.
Many people were already on the verge of turning.
Bang! Bang!
Two people who completed their transformation were immediately shot by the soldiers inside the room.
Sylas had a strong feeling that the rain from the previous evening was connected to what was happening now.
"Major, they’re getting better," Leo said.
"Your healing ability can cure them?" Major Kyle asked in an anxious tone.
"Yes, but only those who became ill recently. If they’re already close to transforming, I can’t heal them," Leo replied.
"That’s already good enough," Major Kyle said with a sigh of relief.
