The Omega Knight's Secret Baby Daddy is A PRINCE?!-Chapter 91: Kaelis is WHAT?
"Alright, men, gather up!"
The camp quieted almost immediately.
Knights left half-finished tasks and moved toward the clearing where Aamon stood. Armor clinked softly as they gathered in a wide arc in front of him.
Behind Aamon stood the three princes and the captains, their gazes fixed toward the darkened horizon.
Beyond the treeline, the sky had grown nearly black.
’The Dark Ones are close.’ Ezra thought grimly, his lips pressing into a thin line.
Aamon rested one hand on the pommel of his sword and looked over the gathered knights.
"Listen carefully," he said, his voice carrying easily across the clearing. "The squads you fought with yesterday remain your squads today. Nothing changes."
The knights shifted slightly, glancing at the teammates beside them.
"You fight with the same men. You trust the same men. You are not different orders right now. You are not competing with each other."
His eyes swept over them.
"We are here for one reason. To make sure no harm reaches this kingdom."
Aamon paused before continuing.
"Yesterday, three teams succeeded fairly. Team A. Team F. And Team K."
Those squads straightened immediately.
"You three will take the frontline with the princes and your captains."
Aamon turned and pointed toward the distant fields beyond the forest.
"The Dark Ones are approaching from the eastern ridge and spreading as they move."
His hand moved slightly toward the left.
"Team A will take the eastern flank. The Dark Ones moving through the trees and ridge on that side are yours. Do not allow them to reach the camp."
Then he gestured toward the opposite side.
"Team F will hold the western side. The terrain narrows there. Anything that breaks through that path will head straight for our supply lines. You stop them there."
Finally, Aamon pointed forward toward the dark horizon.
"Team K will hold the center. That is where the largest concentration is approaching."
He lowered his hand.
"You three teams are the shield."
The statement settled over the gathered knights.
Aamon then swept his gaze across the rest of them.
"The teams who neither cheated nor succeeded yesterday will form the main line behind the front."
A few knights exchanged glances.
"You are the support line," Aamon continued. "Any Dark Ones that break past the front will meet you next. Reinforce the frontlines when needed. Rotate the wounded out. Finish anything the first line cannot."
His expression hardened slightly.
"The last six teams..."
Several knights stiffened.
"...the ones already under punishment."
Aamon’s voice remained firm.
"Along with me, you will form the rear guard."
He gestured toward the growing camp behind them.
"You will protect the medic tents, the headquarters, the supply wagons, and the civilians stationed here."
His gaze sharpened.
"You are not being sidelined."
Silence hung in the air.
"You are protecting the heart of this operation. If anything reaches the camp, it will meet you first."
Aamon paused for a moment before finishing.
"And before I forget," he said, glancing briefly at the princes behind him. "Since I will be staying here with the rear guard, the one leading this entire operation..."
Ezra’s gaze shifted automatically toward Helios.
’Of course it’s Helios.’
"...is, of course, Prince Kaelis."
Ezra’s face dropped instantly.
For a moment, he genuinely felt like he might choke.
It was such a strong reaction that he had to clench his jaw just to stop himself from making a sound.
’You have got to be kidding me.’
Around him, several knights began clapping.
Clapping.
As if that announcement made perfect sense.
Ezra stared at them in disbelief.
’Kaelis? KAELIS?’
If not Helios, then maybe Aurien.
Fine.
That would at least make some sense.
But Kaelis?
That bastard?
The same prince who had barely shown interest in fighting Dark Ones until recently?
The same man who spent most of his time acting like the battlefield was beneath him?
’This is a joke.’
Kaelis stepped forward beside Aamon, his expression composed and serious.
"Men," he began. "Today is the first day that all three orders will fight together."
’Today is the day blah blah blah,’ Ezra mocked silently, glaring at him.
"But as Captain Aamon said, today is not about the three orders," Kaelis continued. "It is not about competition. It is about defeating a common enemy."
His voice carried clearly across the gathered knights.
"The Dark Ones."
He paused briefly.
"Right now, you are not knights from different orders. You are brothers in arms."
’Oh, fuck off with that fake speech.’
Ezra crossed his arms over his chest.
Kaelis continued as if nothing was wrong.
"Captain Aamon has already explained your positions."
He turned his head slightly.
"But there is one thing he forgot to mention."
"Oh, I didn’t forget," Aamon said calmly.
His eyes slid directly toward Ezra, a faint smirk appearing on his face.
"I just wanted you to say it."
Ezra frowned.
’Wait...’
His stomach sank slightly.
’Why is that old man looking at me like that?’
"Right," Kaelis said.
Then he spoke loudly.
"Ezra Belloren."
Ezra froze.
Every single head in the clearing turned toward him.
Even Helios and Aurien looked surprised.
Ezra slowly lowered his arms.
"What?"
"Ezra Belloren and I will be positioned ahead of the frontlines," Kaelis announced.
Ezra blinked.
"What?" he muttered under his breath.
But Kaelis had already looked away.
"We will clear the path for the frontline squads," Kaelis continued. "Our scouts reported a larger concentration of Dark Ones approaching."
His gaze returned to the dark horizon.
"If we eliminate the largest horde first, the frontline will have a clearer battlefield."
Ezra stared at the prince.
’You want me... to fight beside you?’
He could already feel a headache forming.
’Aurethys help me.’
No, Aurethys helps Kaelis because he might end up letting Kaelis die.
"Captains, prepare your squads," Kaelis continued, his voice steady as he looked across the gathered knights. "Mount your horses and move to your assigned positions."
The crowd began to stir. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Knights turned toward their squads. Armor shifted, boots moved across the grass, and the quiet tension that had settled over the camp broke into controlled motion.
Then Kaelis spoke again.
"Captain Ezra."
Ezra stiffened.
His jaw tightened before he slowly turned his head.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Kaelis met his gaze calmly.
"Settle whatever affairs you need to settle. Then come see me."
Ezra stared at him for a moment.
’I really don’t want to.’
But outwardly, Ezra simply lowered his head.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Kaelis had already turned away, speaking to one of the captains beside him.
Around them, the knights were dispersing to retrieve their weapons and horses.
Ezra remained standing there for a second longer.
His hands clenched slightly at his sides.
’Of course he had to say that in front of everyone.’
Ezra could already feel the eyes that had been on him moments ago.
Being singled out like that.
Being chosen.
And not even by his own captain.
By Kaelis.
’Out of all people, he chooses me instead of his own captain?’
The thought alone irritated him.
If Kaelis wanted someone beside him, why not take one of his own men?
Why Ezra?
Ezra exhaled slowly and rubbed the back of his neck.
’Whatever. Just get this over with.’
Knights passed by him now, moving toward the horses tied along the edge of the camp.
But Ezra didn’t follow them yet.
Instead, he turned his head slightly.
There was one place he needed to go first.
One tent.
’Before I leave...’
