The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 40: Slap
Kong Tianru came with an air of hostility.
Nanny Chang instinctively moved a step, blocking in front of Lin Youning, and bowed, "Miss Kong."
The servants and maids who followed Kong Tianru also arrived. Among them, several were Lin Youning’s acquaintances who served beside Kong Tianru. However, it was a stern-looking nanny who stepped forward to persuade her.
"Miss, your health is frail. Let me assist you back."
"Nanny Guan, I’m not so weak that I need someone to support me. I respect you as the old nanny by my mother’s side, but you should also mind your own dignity. The master is present; it’s not your place to interfere," Kong Tianru reprimanded the nanny beside her, but her gaze was fixed on Nanny Chang.
Nanny Chang stood still, eyes fixed unwaveringly, as if none of this concerned her.
Nanny Guan’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she took a few more steps forward, "Miss, if there are any faults, I’ll take the punishment when Madam returns. The mountain wind is harsh; it’s best for you to go back now."
Kong Tianru bit her lip tightly, glaring at Nanny Guan before her. Seeing her master not speaking, Nanny Guan approached respectfully and draped a cloak over Kong Tianru.
Only then did she feel a sense of relief.
But before she could fully relax, the once-calmed girl suddenly dashed out with a few large strides, and amidst the gasps, a crisp slap made the surroundings fall silent.
Yet that silence lasted only a moment before chaos erupted once more.
Some servants even started shouting, and Nanny Guan sternly ordered, "Silence."
The screaming servants then fell quiet.
Nanny Guan rushed forward with large strides, her calloused hand gently holding Kong Luoru’s arm. Kong Tianru felt as if her arm might break, and she finally seemed to cease struggling to charge forward again.
The former barricade, Nanny Chang, had long been pushed to the ground by Kong Luoru. Ignoring her dust-covered and wrinkled clothes, she hurried to Lin Youning, who was guarded by Shanmoi and Tingnan.
Nanny Chang looked at the dazed young master in her arms, then at the swollen face that had been slapped, her heart aching, "Don’t be afraid, Miss. I’ll take you back right now."
As she rose, Nanny Chang shot a sharp glance at Kong Tianru, "Miss Kong, I wonder what my young mistress did to provoke such an improper action from you. It seems the rules and etiquette of the Duke Mansion need to be revised. Given Miss Kong’s behavior today, the Duke Mansion owes the Marquis Mansion an explanation."
"Hmph, just a fostered girl..."
"Miss." Kong Tianru was interrupted before she could finish. Nanny Guan apologized to Nanny Chang, "It’s our mansion’s loss of decorum. Please don’t be angry, old sister. Our young lady was scared by falling into the water today."
"Nanny, there’s no need to apologize to them. If not for her..." Kong Tianru, with a menacing expression, raised her other arm to point at Lin Youning, who was in Nanny Chang’s arms, looking horrified, "It’s all because of her that I lost my reputation. Don’t think I don’t know your intentions. There’s no way you can pretend to fool everyone. If you hadn’t drawn me to the creek, how would I have fallen in? If not for falling into the water..."
Kong Tianru gritted her teeth in hatred.
"Miss Kong, it’s you who lacked propriety. How can you blame it on our young mistress? Our young mistress has no foresight to predict what Miss Kong would do," Nanny Chang retorted coldly.
All around were servants, ears perked up, with some even casting curious glances at Kong Tianru, wondering what had happened.
Nanny Guan was utterly anxious, "Miss, we should go back."
If this continues, everyone might learn of the young lady’s unmarried pregnancy, and what will become of the Duke Mansion’s reputation then?
"What’s going on here?" A cold, stern voice rang out as Gu Yifeng and Xu Kuan approached from the other end of the corridor.
