The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 146 - 145: Taking Action
Mrs. Kong was overjoyed upon hearing this. She glanced outside the window to make sure no one was there before eagerly asking Nanny Guan to bring a small stool over and sit down.
"I went over personally, only saying that I’m interested in how the academy is faring, as I have a nephew coming to study here. I also slipped five silver coins to inquire about the reputation of the academy, and finally, I was told that the teacher is a Scholar who fell on hard times and now teaches at the academy to make ends meet. He is quite handsome, but his family is so poor that he has only a two-room cottage in the countryside. The headmaster of Qiongshan Academy dislikes him, yet Ms. Yan privately got involved with the teacher. Later, when Mr. Yan found out, he drove Mr. Liu away."
"Drove him away?" Mrs. Kong tightened her brows.
Nanny Guan smiled softly, "But I’ve heard that Mr. Liu didn’t go far; instead, he opened a school for children in the same alley."
"Someone who can barely eat is opening a school?" Mrs. Kong smirked slightly, "Interesting. Isn’t Ms. Yan leaving the mansion tomorrow? Have someone keep an eye on her; if anything happens, bring the Second Young Master over. I want him to see what kind of a fickle woman she is."
Nanny Guan also breathed a sigh of relief. Otherwise, if Ms. Yan continued being favored by the Second Young Master, who knows what trouble Madam would cause.
The next day, Lieutenant Zhao’s carriage arrived early at the entrance of the Marquis Mansion. Lin Youning wore a long emerald robe with a white inner garment embroidered with cotton patterns, her hair styled in a fragrant cloud bun with delicate pink pearl flowers scattered throughout, making her appear lively and elegant.
Coincidentally, Gu Er and his party were just leaving at that moment. Gu Er paused upon seeing the graceful figure alighting from the sedan chair and walked over briskly.
"Are you planning to stay on the mountain today, little sister?" Gu Er took her hand from the maid and helped her down from the sedan.
Tang Ping followed behind, no wonder the Second Young Master wanted to know when Miss Lin would leave the mansion; he planned a chance encounter.
Thinking about the Second Young Master’s affection for Miss Lin, who knows how much he will pamper her after marriage.
Lin Youning smiled and thanked him, naturally pulling back her hand once she descended from the sedan, "There are servants, no need to trouble you, elder brother."
She continued, "It’s nearly noon by the time I reach the mountain; returning late might be unsafe. I’m afraid Aunt Lin would worry; I’ve arranged to stay overnight and return."
Lin Youning glanced at the other carriage and smiled, "Brother is returning with Aunt Yan; time is running late, you should be on your way. I shouldn’t keep Mrs. Zhao waiting either."
Lin Youning subtly gestured toward the Zhao Mansion’s carriage on the other side. Gu Er felt uneasy due to the situation with Ms. Yan. Nodding awkwardly, he watched Lin Youning board the carriage before turning away.
Lang Hui, sitting inside the carriage, saw the entire scene unfold and frowned disapprovingly, having heard that the Second Young Master from the Marquis Mansion is quite clueless.
Now he finally understands.
Taking an aunt out and then being attentive to Sister Ning, who is betrothed; what is he thinking?
However, once Lin Youning boarded the carriage holding the maid’s hand, Liang Hui’s face broke into a smile.
After exchanging pleasantries, Lin Youning sat down only to notice Sister Ling was absent from the carriage.
Liang Hui didn’t wait for her to ask and chuckled, "She caught a cold recently. She’s much better now, but still weak. I intended to go to the temple alone, but after receiving your message, I’m glad to have company."
Lin Youning smiled and nodded, "I was frail when young but have grown stronger. There’s no need for Mrs. Zhao to worry."
Feeling a slight surprise that Mrs. Zhao didn’t mention Sister Ling not going to the temple, Lin Youning hid her thoughts quickly.
Meeting with Mrs. Zhao today, Lin Youning had questions she wanted to ask.
Even with just the two of them in the carriage, speaking freely was inconvenient with the driver outside, so they tacitly refrained from talking much.
They chose topics about Sister Ling’s amusing activities and arrived at Pure Path Temple by noon after riding in the sedan chair up the mountain.
After eating the vegetarian meal brought by the little monk, they changed into clean clothes and headed to the front hall.
The Pure Path Temple felt safe, and once they arrived at the main hall, Liang Hui sought Lin Youning’s opinion before sending the young maids outside to play.
"Sister Ning, you must have questions for me, coming out today?" Liang Hui felt a sudden nervousness asking this.
Lin Youning nodded, "Did you send me a handkerchief? Do you recall?"
Liang Hui’s eyes brightened, "Did you like it?"
"I liked it, but how did you know I like plum blossoms? There’s only one embroidered on the handkerchief, making it unique." Lin Youning had a vague suspicion but dared not confirm it, worried she might be overthinking.
"Do you like that plum blossom?" Liang Hui’s voice grew more excited.
Seeing Liang Hui’s expression, Lin Youning felt her suspicion was confirmed, yet there were too many things she couldn’t understand.
Or perhaps she had never dared to imagine such things before.
Liang Hui suddenly grabbed Lin Youning’s hand, "Sister Ning, may I ask something bluntly? Please answer sincerely."
Seeing her eager, anxious eyes, Lin Youning nodded, suppressing the panic in her heart, "Please, ask."
"Do you have a birthmark identical to the plum blossom on the handkerchief on your shoulder?" Liang Hui watched Sister Ning’s face intently, not wanting to miss any expression.
Lin Youning stared firmly at Liang Hui; there was no need for further explanation, as she already knew why she asked.
She knew Lieutenant Zhao lost a sister.
Aunt Lin said she resembled Sister Ling.
Mrs. Zhao gave her the handkerchief with the plum blossom embroidery.
The same plum blossom as her shoulder birthmark.
All of these pointed in one direction.
She was the Zhao Family’s lost daughter.
Alone in the main hall, Lin Youning slowly undid her outer garment, opening the collar of her robe and gently pulling aside, revealing the plum blossom birthmark on her right shoulder.
The naturally formed plum blossom birthmark resembled a real flower resting on her fair shoulder.
Liang Hui covered her mouth, fearing she might scream, stepping closer to Lin Youning with tear-filled eyes. She said nothing, only clutching Lin Youning tightly in her embrace.
Lin Youning felt no discomfort, her heart warmed at that moment, and her nose tingled as tears streamed down.
Round and round, she never expected her life story to unfold this way.
