The No.1 Undercover in the Immortal World-Chapter 126: The Town Beneath Sword Peak
After a brief conversation with the Golden Thunderbolt, the Azure Dragon Gu Worm continued on to its work.
Lin Yun was unaware that the two adorable creatures inside him had started to communicate. He was so immersed in the joy of Divine Cultivation that he couldn’t extricate himself until Hu Yuling woke him up.
The Sword Sect had arrived.
A group of people landed on a hill outside the town.
The Purple Crested Vermilion Bird was too large, so it couldn’t fly into the town without attracting too much attention. Thus, it had to be temporarily left in the wilderness.
"Let’s take a stroll in the town at the foot of Sword Peak first. I’ve already sent a visiting card up there. We’ve come in haste this time, and to climb Sword Peak, we’ll have to wait until the afternoon," Hu Yuling said, only to realize that Lin Yun hadn’t listened at all as he was observing Sword Peak in the distance.
Sword Peak soared into the clouds and was the highest peak in the area. Next to it were four slightly shorter mountains, clustered around it.
These five peaks were also known as the Five Extremes Mountains.
Not just because of the mountains’ appearance, but also because, in the heyday of the Sword Sect, the ancestors of each branch were very strong and were collectively referred to as the Five Extremes of the Sword Sect.
Of course, that was all in the past. Nowadays, the people prefer to call them the Five Fingers Mountain.
"What, feeling sentimental revisiting an old place?"
Hu Yuling deliberately said this, but in reality, she didn’t believe that the current Lin Yun was still the disciple sent by the Sword Sect.
Perhaps, he was an old fellow who had cultivated some sort of bone shrinking and facial changing technique. That Sword Sect disciple, Lin Yun, who had left to go undercover in the Demon Sect – no one knew what his temperament would be like, nor did he have many social interactions. For an old demon to snatch such an identity, it was indeed perfect.
"Hmm."
Lin Yun simply responded; in fact, he felt no sentimentality at all. He just thought the mountain was indeed quite special. If he didn’t pretend to be contemplative, it wouldn’t fit the character setting of this persona, and it would be bad if Elder Hu suspected I was possessed.
"It’s getting late. We might as well take a walk and eat something," Zhao Lingyu said quite lively, having the mood for sightseeing, while the acolyte took it upon himself to stay in the mountains to look after Big Red, leaving only Lin Yun and the other two to enter the city.
The town in this western region was not prosperous. There were only a few people scattered about on the streets, which made Zhao Lingyu, who was used to bustling places, find it quite uninteresting at once.
A pungent smell wafted through the air, causing Zhao Lingyu to cover her nose involuntarily.
Although these smells wouldn’t make her uncomfortable, she didn’t like them.
Lin Yun, on the other hand, excitedly sniffed the air, I smell the scent of chili peppers!
Drawn by the aroma, Lin Yun saw a spice shop, with a string of shriveled red chili peppers hanging at the door.
"Spices are abundant in the Southwest Territory. If you like, you can buy some to take back with you," Zhao Lingyu said, her lips curling at the thought.
It was widely known that Hu Yuling was a proud elder. Now it seemed that, proud as she may be, it depended on whom she dealt with.
If Lin Yun were just an ordinary disciple, he would surely have been given a lecture by now: spices are mere worldly possessions, of no benefit to one’s cultivation.
Perhaps this is just how elders are, double standards!
Watching Lin Yun select spices, Zhao Lingyu glanced around out of boredom and noticed a commotion not far away.
"There seems to be some excitement over there. Elder Hu, let’s go have a look!"
Without waiting for Hu Yuling’s response, Zhao Lingyu headed over first.
She didn’t want to stay here and be smoked by garlic and various other irritating smells. Hu Yuling felt the same and left Lin Yun behind, confident that no trouble would arise from the short distance.
Arriving in front of the medical clinic, they saw that it was three men ganging up on a woman.
The woman, dressed in plain clothes, looked like an ordinary farmer’s wife. Her simple attire could not conceal her graceful figure, and although she wore a cloth over her face, her exposed forehead and bright eyes were enough to suggest her beauty.
In her hand was a wooden sword, with which she parried the attacks of the others effortlessly. Despite being one against three, she was not at a disadvantage.
The sounds of the fight quickly drew the people nearby, and the street that had been quiet suddenly bustled with activity.
"Someone is provoking Lady Yu again? They must be tired of living," someone muttered.
"These three are definitely from out of town."
"Lady Yu’s swordsmanship is still so elegant!"
Zhao Lingyu and Hu Yuling exchanged a glance as they overheard the onlookers’ commentary, feeling somewhat bemused.
There were just too many names with "Yu" in them. They seemed to bump into someone with such a name everywhere they went, which felt rather odd.
Both of them could certainly understand this sentiment.
It was all because jade was so valuable that parents liked to include "Yu" in their daughters’ names, which made the name seem rather old-fashioned. There were countless others like Bao Yu, Dai Yu, Jin Yu, Bi Yu.
Zhao Lingyu couldn’t help thinking that she would never include "Yu" in her daughter’s name in the future.
To the two cultivators, this scuffle was just a mundane mortal conflict, merely trivial entertainment to kill time. The woman’s sword techniques were straightforward, skilfully blocking and counterattacking, occasionally poking the men with her sword.
The sword she wielded was wooden, not very lethal, but extremely insulting.
Those three men, realizing they were no match, quickly dispersed and each produced a talisman.
It was clear that having failed in physical combat, they were now turning to magical combat.
Hu Yuling could sense that although the woman was physically strong, she lacked True Qi and probably didn’t have the ability to fend off spells from immortals.
However, Hu Yuling had no intention of playing the hero to save the damsel in distress. If there were to be a hero, it should be Lin Yun’s role.
As the three men released their fire talismans, flying towards the woman, the crowd gasped in surprise, when suddenly a voice rang out, "Who are these cowards causing trouble here?"
A flash of sword light and those fire talismans were sliced in half just in front of the woman, not harming her in the slightest.
A valorous man stood in front of her, pointing his sword at the three men.
"Beat it now!"
The three men hurriedly fled, and only then did the man reveal a gentle smile, saying, "Sister Yu, are you all right?"
Hu Yuling watched the scene with interest, feeling that the story had just become even more fascinating.
When the fire talismans were about to hit her, the woman’s eyes didn’t waver in the least, clearly unafraid.
And even after the man appeared, her eyes remained just as calm.
Hu Yuling had seen this man before as well.
The current successor of the Sword Sect, the son of Baili Liuyun, Baili Shouxin.
Baili Shouxin had visited the Shenxiao Sect a few times, so Hu Yuling remembered him.
He was a guy with not much to show for, hardly worth mentioning.
His father Baili Liuyun wasn’t worth mentioning in her presence, so there was no point talking about him either.
Hu Yuling found the commotion quite entertaining and decided to continue watching from the sidelines.
Ever since she entered the city, she had cast a spell on herself; otherwise, with her looks and figure, attracting attention would have been inevitable.
Hu Yuling didn’t want that hassle, now she was happy just to watch the show and eat melon seeds.
"Thank you, Brother Baili, for your help, but I am fine, please go about your business."
A fleeting look of embarrassment crossed Baili Shouxin’s face, yet he still forced a smile and said, "I happen to be free, perhaps I could help you prepare the medicine?"
"No need to trouble yourself, Brother."
The woman responded coldly, intending to head back to the apothecary. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Just then, Lin Yun happened to finish buying chili peppers and garlic, and was walking towards them.
"Yun’er?"
Upon hearing the call, Lin Yun looked in the direction of the voice, only to see a veiled woman rushing towards him...
